  2. Thank you for purchasing "Master of Orion."
  3. The following are changes/corrections to the manual:

  5.      ********************* GAME FEATURES *********************

  7. - Lasers take 25 power, Heavy Lasers require 75 power, and Maulers 
  8.   need 300 power.
  9.  
  10. - Fertile and Gaia planets increase your planets' base populations
  11.   by 25% and 50% respectively, in addition to the increased growth 
  12.   rates.

  15. - If you have both standard and scatter pack missiles, you may 
  16.   change which type your planetary bases fire by using the 
  17.   MISSILES button in combat.  In Auto-Combat mode, the computer 
  18.   automatically selects the more effective type.

  20. - The High Council is formed when 2/3rds of the planets have been 
  21.   colonized, not 1/2 as stated in the manual.

  28.      ********************* TECHNICAL NOTES *********************

  30. - Sound Blaster Pro Cards should have all environment variables 
  31.   fully specified in the config.sys file to be properly recognized.
  32.  
  33. - Adaptec controller cards must use the hard drive drivers supplied 
  34.   with the controller cards to access the game properly.
  35.  
  36. - Roland sound cards take several seconds to load custom instrument 
  37.   files at the beginning of the program, when switching to and from 
  38.   the main menu, and at the end of the game.

  41. - The program automatically saves your game in a special file that 
  42.   allows you to Continue where you left.  However, if you fail the 
  43.   ship identification security check, this file is deleted and the 
  44.   Continue function is disabled.

  46. - If you are using Stacker, DOS 6's Double Space, or some other 
  47.   hard drive compression utility, "Master of Orion" will appear to 
  48.   use more than the amount of space the Install utility checks
  49.   for.  This is because the program files are already compressed, 
  50.   and your compression utility will not be able to get the usual 
  51.   space savings.

  54. - The Install program's sound card detection routines may cause some
  55.   systems to lock up.  If this happens to you, run the Install 
  56.   program by typing "INSTALL -S" instead of just "INSTALL". This 
  57.   bypasses the auto-detection, and lets you select any sound card 
  58.   on the menu.
