Alternations is played with two full packs of cards. The packs are shuffled together, and cards dealt in seven depots of seven cards each with the top row face up, each alternate row face down. The remaining cards form the stock pile. All aces may be taken to form foundations which are built in suit. Cards may be built in ascending order of suit on the foundations, or in descending sequence irrespective of suit on the depots. The top card of the rubbish pile, the top card of the stock, or any sequence from the depots may be moved at any time.
