  3. This mjreadme.txt file forms part of this zip file.
  4.  
  5. This file contains release notes, installation information and
  6. information about error messages for Mah Jongg for Windows.
  7.  
  8. The following files are contained in this zip file:
  9.  
  10.     mahjongg.exe    The program main executable file
  11.     mahjongg.hlp    Windows help file
  12.     tiles.dll    Library containing tile images
  13.     bwcc.dll    Borland custom controls
  14.     mjreadme.txt    This file
  15.  
  16. If you have the Borland bwcc.dll file already installed in your 
  17. Windows\System directory and it is not older than the one included 
  18. in this zip file, then you don't need the Borland bwcc.dll file from 
  19. this zip file.

  21. System Requirements:
  22.     Microsoft Windows (TM) version 3.10 or higher.
  23.  
  24. Installing Mah Jongg for Windows:
  25.  
  26.     Create a new directory in your favorite games directory called 
  27.     mahjongg or whatever name you fancy. 
  28.  
  29.     Extract or copy all the files from this zip file to the directory
  30.     you have just created. You can move the Borland file to your 
  31.     Windows\System directory if you like, so other programs can access 
  32.     this file too. 
  33.  
  34.     In Windows, open File Manager and Program Manager side by side. You 
  35.     now need to drag the file mahjongg.exe from File Manager to a program 
  36.     group in Program Manager. For example, if you already have a "games" 
  37.     program group in Program Manager you might like to add the mahjongg.exe
  38.     file to this group.  
  39.  
  40.     Now double click on the newly created icon for mahjongg in the program
  41.     group and off you go - you are ready to play!

  43. Removing Mah Jongg for Windows:
  44.  
  45.     Just delete the files; mahjongg.exe, mahjongg.hlp, tiles.dll, 
  46.     mjreadme.txt. In the case of the Borland bwcc.dll file only 
  47.     delete if it is NOT in your Windows\System directory.
  48.  
  49.     Mah Jongg for Windows also creates its own initialization file 
  50.     called mahjongg.ini in your Windows directory. You can safely
  51.     delete this file.
  52.  
  53. If you are unlucky Mah Jongg for Windows might show one of the following
  54. error messages:
  55.  
  56. 1    Can't find "TILES.DLL"
  57.     Solution:    Move TILES.DLL, MAHJONGG.HLP, MJREADME.TXT and 
  58.             MAHJONGG.EXE all to the same directory.
  59.  
  60. 2    You are using an old version of "BWCC.DLL".
  61.     Copy the version from the Mah Jongg zip file to your 
  62.     Windows\System directory. Mah Jongg will now exit.
  63.     Solution:    Make sure that the correct version of BWCC.DLL is
  64.             loaded in memory. If the copy of BWCC.DLL that came
  65.             with the Mah Jongg zip file is newer than the copy
  66.             found in your Windows or Windows\System directory,
  67.             then copy the version from the Mah Jongg zip file
  68.             to your Windows\System directory and delete any copies
  69.             found in your Windows directory. Try running Mah Jongg
  70.             again. If the problem remains then you have to search 
  71.             all directories listed after the "PATH=" and possibly
  72.             "SET PATH=" statements in your autoexec.bat file and
  73.             your Windows and Windows\System directory for copies of 
  74.             BWCC.DLL. Close all applications except Program Manager
  75.             and File Manager. Make backup copies of all versions on
  76.             a floppy disk and include information from which directory 
  77.             a particular copy came from. Delete any versions of this
  78.             DLL in your Windows directory and copy the newest version
  79.             you can find of this DLL to your Windows\System directory.
  80.             Try running Mah Jongg again. If the problem still remains,
  81.             then delete all versions of this DLL on your system,
  82.             except for the copy in your Windows\System directory.
  83.             Mah Jongg should run now.

  85. 3    Sorry... You are using a version prior to Windows 3.1. Mah Jongg needs
  86.     Windows 3.1 or higher. Mah Jongg will now exit.
  87.     Solution:    I'm afraid you'll have to install a version of Microsoft
  88.             Windows (TM) newer than the version you have now. Versions
  89.             onwards from 3.10 should run Mah Jongg properly.
  90.  
  91. 4    Mah Jongg has a problem allocating memory. Free up memory by closing
  92.     other applications. Mah Jongg will now exit.
  93.     Solution:    The memory on a computer is limited. Other applications
  94.             have taken up so much of it that Mah Jongg can't get enough
  95.             to run properly. Close all applications you're not working
  96.             on at the moment and try running Mah Jongg again.
  97.  
  98. 5    Could not Create Timer
  99.     Solution:    There are only a limited number of timers in Windows.
  100.             Other applications have taken up so many of them that
  101.             Mah Jongg can't get the two timers needed to run properly. 
  102.             Close all applications you're not working on at the moment
  103.             and try running Mah Jongg again.
  104.  
  105. 6    Error opening Help. Can't find "mahjongg.hlp". Make sure it is in the same
  106.     directory as mahjongg.exe.
  107.     Solution:    Move TILES.DLL, MAHJONGG.HLP, MJREADME.TXT and MAHJONGG.EXE
  108.             all to the same directory.
  109.
