- Warning about upgrading and user dictionary.
-
- If you have a user dictionary, you should make a copy of it before deleting
- the old version of Sleuth 3. Shift double-click on the !Sleuth3 directory icon, then
- double-click on the directory DataTables. Now drag the file called
- "userdict" to a safe place. Once the new version is installed, you can add
- your old user dictionary words to the new version by dragging it to the
- 'Edit dictionary' window, and clicking on OK.
-
- (Applies to 3.02-3.06)

- Bug in text editor in 3.02
-
- There is a bug in the text editor in 3.02, which causes the caret to move
- down a line instead of one character to the right in some circumstances.
- Typically it happens in short lines towards the end of long paragraphs, when
- you try to insert a character or move the caret to the right.
-
- This is fixed in 3.04. (3.03 was a demo version).

- Problem with Mustek scanners from Castle Technology.
-
- The scan proceeds as usual, but immediately after scanning the error message
- box appears saying:
-
- Message from Sleuth3 - Failed to load sprite file (No OS error)
-
- This is a problem with the scanner driver. The driver says its going to
- provide n rows of data, but sometimes only produces n-1. Some programs,
- including Sleuth2 and ImageMaster don't mind this, but Sleuth 3 does.
-
- You should be able to get an upgrade from Castle which solves the problem.

-
-
- 'Failed to find any readable text' error.
-
- The information window giving the progress of the OCR reads as it should,
- correct number of lines, reasonable accuracy etc. But when it finished it gives
- an error message 'Failed to find any readable text. OCR abandoned.'
-
- This may be because you have set the sprite resolution and/or the minimum
- text size too big, so that Sleuth is ignoring what you want it to read.

- OCRing screenshots
-
- I am baffled as to why anyone wants to do this, but some people do, so here
- are some guidelines:
-
- Resolution. This should be as high as possible, and even then, you'll have
- to make the text quite big. A 600x800 screen mode has the same number of
- pixels vertically as a 2-inch high scan at 300dpi.
-
- Colours. A 2-colour mode is probably best, since this what Sleuth will
- actually use. Otherwise, it is best if the text is not anti-aliased. There
- is a problem with 16-colour modes, because even if 16 greys are chosen, the
- palette is not a standard grey scale and this confuses Sleuth - you could
- try experimenting with the grey scale mapping in the Preferences box. 4
- greys, 256 greys, and 256 colours all seem ok, as long as the text is black
- on white. Sleuth cannot import 32k or 16M colour images.
-
- Finally note that Sleuth 3 has not been trained on the system font or
- anything similar, so this is unlikely to work well.
