  14. Quick Start Guide
  15. =================
  16. After you have installed NetAccelerator and run the program,
  17. the following instructions will help you get started quickly.
  18.  
  19. 1. If your browser is already running, close it before
  20.    starting NetAccelerator.
  21.  
  22. 2. When the main NetAccelerator screen starts, click 
  23.    "Run Internet Explorer" or "Run Netscape Navigator" 
  24.    to start your browser and enhance its performance 
  25.    with NetAccelerator.
  26.  
  27. 3. From the NetAccelerator screen, you can also click 
  28.    "Test Drive" to compare your browser's performance 
  29.    with and without NetAccelerator.
  30.  
  31. 4. You may want to add NetAccelerator to your Startup 
  32.    folder so it opens automatically when you start your 
  33.    system.

  37. Version 1.1 Release Notes
  38. =========================
  39. In this version of NetAccelerator, you must first 
  40. start NetAccelerator and then start your browser. 
  41. NetAccelerator does not automatically recognize your 
  42. browser if you start your browser first. (Use the 
  43. Update button to check our web site regularly for an 
  44. newer release that automatically detects when you 
  45. start your browser.)
  46.  
  47. If you wish to start your browser automatically when 
  48. you start NetAccelerator, modify your NetAccelerator 
  49. shortcut and add the following command line 
  50. parameter:
  51.  
  52.  For Internet Explorer: /start=I
  53.  
  54.  For Netscape Navigator: /start=N
  55.  
  56.  
  57. Here are basic instructions for modifying a shortcut. 
  58. These instructions assume you accepted the suggested 
  59. default options when you installed NetAccelerator. 
  60. Consult your Windows 95 documentation if you need 
  61. more details.

  63. 1. Close NetAccelerator.
  64.  
  65. 2. In My Computer, open the folder C:\Win95\Start 
  66.    Menu\Programs\IMSI.
  67.  
  68. 3. Position your mouse over the NetAccelerator icon 
  69.    and click the right mouse button.
  70.  
  71. 4. Choose Properties.
  72.  
  73. 5. Go to the Shortcut tab.
  74.  
  75. 6. Place your mouse at the end of the Target line and 
  76.    add either /start=I or /start=N. 
  77.  
  78. 7. Click OK.

  80. From now on, your selected browser will start 
  81. automatically when you start NetAccelerator.

  85. Browsers and systems supported
  86. ------------------------------
  87. NetAccelerator 1.1 works reliably with Netscape 
  88. Navigator versions 3.0 and 4.x and Microsoft Internet 
  89. Explorer versions 3.02 and 4.x. NetAccelerator does not 
  90. support Netscape Navigator 2.0.

  92. NetAccelerator 1.1 does not support NT.

  100. Attention AOL Users!

  103. This version of NetAccelerator works with AOL 
  104. provided you have Netscape Navigator 3.02+ or 
  105. Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02+ installed on your PC
  106. and you do the following:
  107.  
  108. 1. Launch AOL and after connecting, minimize the AOL Browser.
  109.  
  110. 2. Launch NetAccelerator and click either Netscape or Internet Explorer 
  111.    (If you do not have a compatible browser installed on your PC
  112.    Internet Explorer can be installed from the NetAccelerator CD, 
  113.    it is located in the IE95 folder (Run SETUP95.EXE).

  115. 3. Surf the web as you normally would.

  119. Performance variation
  120. ---------------------
  121. On different kinds of sites, NetAccelerator 1.1 
  122. performance may vary depending on which browser you 
  123. are using. Pages with frames, for example, will pre-
  124. load more reliably when you use Netscape Navigator 
  125. than they will with Internet Explorer. If performance 
  126. at a site is unsatisfactory, try viewing the site 
  127. using the other browser. For more information on 
  128. factors that affect NetAccelerator performance, see 
  129. the UserÆs Guide.

  131. Netscape Navigator users may experience better 
  132. performance if they increase the size of their disk 
  133. and memory cache (from Netscape Navigator, choose 
  134. Options | Network Preferences | Cache).
