- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
-
- Please take a look through this list before contacting me with any questions about
- GoogleGet. If you have any questions or bug reports that aren't covered in this FAQ
- then please feel free to contact me, details are at the end of the included readme
- file.
-
- Be sure to check the GoogleGet forum for a list of the latest known issues!

-
- I get a message about a missing file when starting GoogleGet, how do I fix this?
-
- GoogleGet is written in Visual Basic and as such requires two ocx objects to be
- present on your system before it will run - 'mswinsck.ocx' and 'tabctl32.ocx'. Most
- systems already have these files installed, however if you need either then
- download the appropriate file from the GoogleGet web page.
-
- To install, simply extract the file to 'C:\Windows\System32' (for XP),
- 'C:\WINNT\System32' (for 2000/NT) or 'C:\Windows\System' (for 98/95) and register by
- clicking Start > Run and typing the command 'regsvr32 <filename>', replacing
- <filename> with either 'mswinsck.ocx' or 'tabctl32.ocx'.
-
- Whenever I try to set the iPod Drive Letter I get 'Runtime error 429', how do I fix this?
-
- This (somewhat rare) error occurs when the file 'scrrun.dll' is not present in your
- Windows System folder. To fix the problem you will need the missing dll which can be
- downloaded from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?scrrun
-
- To install, simply extract the file to 'C:\Windows\System32' (for XP),
- 'C:\WINNT\System32' (for 2000/NT) or 'C:\Windows\System' (for 98/95) and run GoogleGet
- again.
-
- What about adding movie reviews or traffic news? Or how about support for RSS feeds?
-
- I may be tempted to add the feature if you can tell me a good (and preferably
- international) source for the appropriate information. However, I will not be adding
- anything that is particularly specialist or anything that already overlaps with what
- is covered by Google News, sorry. Regarding RSS feeds - there are already quite a few
- programs around that deal with these and to be honest I don't find them that
- informative, therefore i won't be adding RSS support to GoogleGet.
-
- How about downloading the complete news stories not just the first paragraph or so?
-
- I'm seriously considering adding this in a future release. However, all the stories
- will come from different sites so reformating will be almost impossible. Therefore
- it's going to look very messy on the iPod and take a fair while to download too.
-
- Please add news support for my country - it's discrimination!
-
- GoogleGet downloads all it's news from news.google.com, so if there isn't a local
- variation listed at the bottom of that site then GoogleGet can't download it. If
- there IS a page listed that GoogleGet doesn't support then the chances are I don't
- yet know about it - mail me and I'll probably get it included in the next release.
-
- Is there going to be a Mac version of GoogleGet?
-
- No. I don't own a Mac or know anything about programming for Macs. Sorry. However,
- you may want to check out Pod2Go at http://www.kainjow.com/pod2go
-
- I ran GoogleGet and it appeared to download OK, but where is the info on my iPod?
-
- If you own a third gen or later iPod (v2+ firmware and dock connector) then it will be
- accessable via the Notes application. If you own an older iPod (v1 firmware) then
- news and weather is downloaded as vCards and can be viewed under Contacts.
