The CHAOS + Public Key has two modes of operations.
When the "Public Key" mode is turned on it is most compact, reliable and simple in use program for sending protected messages to the friends, colleagues and bankers.
At the switched off mode "Public Key" is the most reliable and fast program for encrypting the information, which you are going to store on your computer.

Introduction
Chaos uses the newest chaos logic and stream cipher encryption. It is high speed and allows variable-length keys, making it very reliable and suitable for use in working. The program is compact, efficient and user friendly. Comprehensive privacy tools including file/folder encryption, e-mail encryption, file/folder shredder.
Levels of encryption
Best. The maximum length of key stream is 180 Tbytes.
Normal. The maximum length of key stream is 3.2 Gbytes.
Demo. The maximum length of key stream is 256 bytes.
The length of password may be up to 5 symbols.

Help for shredder
Using CHAOS to delete files
The Shredder item on the CHAOS menu deletes files and their contents. The Shredder feature is a secure way of permanently removing a file and its contents from the hard drive of your computer. When a file is deleted in the computer, it is not really deleted. For speed performance reasons, the computer only deletes the file indexing information and say that the disk space the file occupied is now free. This means that the data contained in the file still exists, but it is no longer accessible and can be overwritten by new files. Working quickly and integrated with Windows Shell, CHAOS shreds data in files so that they can not be recovered by any means.
To permanently delete a file using the CHAOS, follow these steps:
1. Select section "Shredder" from the CHAOS menu.
2. Select in left window the files or folders that you want to wipe.
3. Drag the files or folders into the CHAOS purgatory.
4. Press button "Delete" to permanently erase the files.
CHAOS + Public Key (The mode " Pubic Key " is switched on)
1. Select section "Public Key" from the CHAOS menu.
2. Switch on a mode "Public Key"
Introduction
With CHAOS + Public Key you can protect the privacy of your e-mail messages, files and folders by encrypting them so that only the intended recipients can read them. You can also digitally sign messages and files, which ensures their authenticity. When someone sends you e-mail with their digital signature, CHAOS automatically use a copy of their public key to check the digital signature and to make sure that no one has tampered with the contents. After obtaining only one message from other of CHAOS user enciphered by your public key, the program independently shapes an one-time symmetric key for operation with this user and in further will use for operation with him only one-time symmetric key varying at each conversation. Length of these keys in each case will exceed a size of the ciphered data.
Levels of encryption
Best. Public key size is 3072 bit. The maximum length of key stream is 180 Tbytes.
Normal. Public key size is 2048 bit. The maximum length of key stream is 3.2 Gbytes.
Demo. Public key size is 256 bit. The maximum length of key stream is 256 bytes.
To create a key pair
1. Enter your nickname.
Note.
You do not have to enter your real name. However, using your real name makes it easier for others to identify you as the owner of your public key.
2. Press button "Create keys".
Note.
The nickname will appear in CHAOS' users window in the graph "User's nickname" near an icon of CHAOS. In the graph "Public key" will appear a tag "Demo", "Normal" or "Best". In the graph "CHAOS' key" will appear a tag "No". In the graph "Signature" also will appear a tag "No".
Exchanging keys with others
After you create a key pair, you can begin exchanging encrypted e-mail with other CHAOS users. To do so, you need a copy of their public key or they need a copy of yours. Since your public key is just a block of text, it is easy to trade keys with someone.
You have two alternatives for distributing your public key:
1. Include your public key in an e-mail message.
Note. How to send the Public Key by e-mail
Drag the key from the CHAOS' users window into Outlook Express or Netscape Messager.
2. Make your public key available through a public server.
Note. How to prepare your open key for accommodation on the server.
Select in the left window a path for accommodation of the key. Drag the key from the CHAOS' users window into the left window. In the left window the file with your Public Key with an icon "Key" and your nickname will appear.
Note.
After obtaining only one message from other of CHAOS user enciphered by your public key, the program independently shapes an one-time symmetric key for operation with this user and in further will use for operation with him only one-time symmetric key varying at each conversation. After that the tag "Installed" will appear in CHAOS' users window in the graph "CHAOS key ". If the message was signed, in the graph "Signature" will appear a tag "Present". If the message was not signed, in the graph "Signature" will appear a tag "No".
Addition of a public key of other user.
Having received a public key from other user, locate it on the hard disk. Open the window "Public key", specify the directory, in which the public key is located, discover it in the left window. Drag a public key in the graph "User's nickname" in right window.
Note
The nickname will appear in CHAOS' users window in the graph "User's nickname". In the graph "Public key " will appear a tag "Demo", "Normal" or "Best".
