  60.       In addition to the image grid, GIMP also gives you a more flexible
  61.       type of positioning aid: <span class="emphasis"><em>guides</em></span>.  These are
  62.       horizontal or vertical lines that you create by clicking on one of
  63.       the rulers and dragging into the image.  You can create as many
  64.       guides as you like, positioned wherever you like.  To move a guide
  65.       after you have created it, activate the Move tool in the Toolbox (or
  66.       press the <span class="keycap"><strong>M</strong></span> key), you can then click and drag a
  67.       guide. To delete a guide, simply drag it outside the image. Holding
  68.       down the Shift key, you can move everything but a guide, using the
  69.       guides as an effective alignment aid.

  72.       As with the grid, you can cause the pointer to snap to nearby
  73.       guides, by toggling
  74.       <span class="guimenu">View</span> ‚Üí <span class="guimenuitem">Snap to Guides</span>
  75.       in the image menu.  If you have a number of guides and they are
  76.       making it difficult for you to judge the image properly, you can
  77.       hide them by toggling

  79.       It is suggested that you only do this momentarily, otherwise you
  80.       may get confused the next time you try to create a guide and
  81.       don't see anything happening.
