  4. First of all, if you need help with TeX on Debian, ie with respect to 
  5. file placement, configuration options, etc, please see the document
  6.     TeX-on-Debian
  7. in the tex-common package, which can be found in 
  8.     /usr/share/doc/tex-common/
  9. in the pdf, txt, and html format.

  11. This file contains additional information specific to TeX live.

  14. Differences to TeX live (upstream)
  15. ----------------------------------

  17. Several parts of TeX Live have not been included into the Debian packages,
  18. mostly due to licensing issues (e.g., XyMTeX, which is not redistributable,
  19. or ppower4 which needs a jar file where sources are not provided).

  21. Some collection are not packaged, as the packages they contain are already
  22. in Debian, or should be packaged separately. Furthermore, some TeX packages
  23. are excluded from the debian packages out of the same reasons:
  24. already in Debian (incomplete list):
  25.     cm-super, texinfo, preview, lcdf-typetools, passivetex, tex4ht,
  26.     jadetex, xmltex, tipa, t1utils, prosper, tpslifonts
  27.     CJK, arphic, c90enc, cns, garuda, norasi, uhc, wadalab,
  28.     beamer, pgf, xcolor, lacheck, dvipdfmx, lm, dvi2tty, sanskrit
  29.     musixps, musixtex, musixflx, musixlyr, texpower, tpslifonts
  30. should be packages independently
  31.     collection-psutils, collection-ttfutils, collection-graphicstools
  32. collections gone because the containing TeX packages are in Debian
  33.     collection-langarab (would have been texlive-lang-arab)
  34.         replaced by arabtex
  35.     collection-htmlxml (would have been texlive-htmlxml)
  36.         replaced by xmltex, jadetex, passivetex, tex4ht
  37.     collection-langcjk (would have been texlive-lang-cjk)
  38.         replaced by latex-cjk-all

  40. If a package is removed from a collection/Debian package due to the
  41. existence of an equivalent package in Debian, the collection/Debian package
  42. depends on the other package, so no functionality is lost.

  44. For disappearing whole collections this is not possible, but the metapackage
  45. `texlive-full' depends on all the necessary items.
