  14. Install: (1) Unzip & Run INSTALL.EXE
  15.          (2) Create a shortcut key as follows 
  16.              (if you use Prog. Mgr.):
  17.              - open the program group where you put Scrap
  18.              - select "File | Properties"
  19.              - single click in the shortcut key box
  20.              - press the Control-Shift-S keys all together
  21.              - click OK
  22.  
  23.     - The shortcut key is very important for maximum useability.  -
  24.     - The key combination ctrl-shift-S is easy to hit with the    -
  25.     - left hand without even taking the right hand off the mouse. - 
  26.  
  27. Purpose
  28. -------
  29. Save scraps of text from any application both to the desktop AND to a file.  
  30. A window or icon is left on the desktop with the scrap of text in it.
  31. Have any number of scraps open until you run out of memory.  (In Win'95
  32. the scrap would go to the task bar)
  33.  
  34. Why use scrap instead of notepad, etc.?  It provides an easy to distinguish
  35. category, with its own icon and directory.  Information in your computer
  36. constantly overflows the monolithic ways of organizing it.  It's the handiest
  37. way of having multiple paste buffers.  Unlike the Windows paste buffer, the
  38. information is retained after a system shutdown.
  39.  
  40. Good for saving clips of text such as:
  41.   - quotes from online material
  42.   - email or URL addresses
  43.   - multiple quotes from a document you are browsing
  44.   - use it to jot down random thoughts
  45.   - great for organizing non-linear information
  46.  
  47. Scraps left open at the end of a session will reopen when you restart
  48. your computer.
  49.  
  50. To Use
  51. ------
  52. (1) Copy a piece of text you are interested in: 
  53.     - Use Edit | Copy if a menu is available.
  54.     - In most other places:
  55.       --> Highlight the text by dragging the cursor across it
  56.             -or- by holding shift and using the arrow keys
  57.       --> Then press Control-C
  58.  
  59. (2) Run SCRAP in one of the following 3 ways:
  60.     - Double click on it's icon  -or-
  61.     - Double click on the file SCRAP.EXE   -or-
  62.     - Press Control-Shift-S while Program Manager window has focus.
  63.  
  64.     TIPS:
  65.     - If you can't see Pgm. Mgr. window, press Alt-TAB until you do.
  66.     - Adjust Pgm. Mgr. to less than full screen to see what's behind it.

  68. (3) Scrap will activate & paste the text in a window.  Type any additional
  69.     text you wish.  Then close (left corner double click) or minimize
  70.     (right corner single click) the window.
  71.  
  72.     When you minimize the window, it will have a name derived from the
  73.     first line of text.  
  74.  
  75.     On minimizing, text is saved in the SCRAPS subdirectory of wherever
  76.     SCRAP.EXE is kept, for example C:\WINDOWS\SCRAPS if you install to
  77.     C:\WINDOWS. Text is saved again when you close the window.

  79. (4) To use any of the scraps:
  80.  
  81.     If the scrap icon is still on the desktop...
  82.     - Restore the scrap window and copy the scrap wherever you want it.
  83.     - Use mouse drags -or- shift/arrow keys to highlight text you want.
  84.     - Use Ctrl-C to COPY highlighted text from scrap window.
  85.     - Use Ctrl-V to PASTE text if there is no Edit|Paste menu.

  87.     If the scrap window/icon has been closed...
  88.     - Run scrap again.
  89.     - Single click on the SYSTEM MENU BOX (upper left corner)

  94.     - Select "Open", then select the scrap you want to open

  96.     OTHER MENU OPTIONS...
  97.     Note also on the system menu box (see above) these options:

  99.     - "Delete"         - deletes & clears the currently displayed scrap
  100.     - "Close, no save" - quits without saving a scrap
  101.     - "About..."       - displays this file
  102.  
  103.     To PRINT a scrap...
  104.     - Using File Manager, find the SCRAPS subdirectory.
  105.     - Double click on one of the ".txt" files.
  106.     - Notepad will come up with the scrap.  Select File|Print
  107.  
  108. (5) Every now and then, delete unneeded scraps from the SCRAPS folder
  109.     (subdirectory of wherever you installed SCRAP).
  110.  
  111.     You can do this either of two ways:
  112.     - Open the scrap & select Delete (see above)
  113.     - Use File Manager or Explorer to delete multiple scraps
  114.
