-
-
- Install: (1) Unzip & Run INSTALL.EXE
- (2) Create a shortcut key as follows
- (if you use Prog. Mgr.):
- - open the program group where you put Scrap
- - select "File | Properties"
- - single click in the shortcut key box
- - press the Control-Shift-S keys all together
- - click OK
-
- - The shortcut key is very important for maximum useability. -
- - The key combination ctrl-shift-S is easy to hit with the -
- - left hand without even taking the right hand off the mouse. -
-
- Purpose
- -------
- Save scraps of text from any application both to the desktop AND to a file.
- A window or icon is left on the desktop with the scrap of text in it.
- Have any number of scraps open until you run out of memory. (In Win'95
- the scrap would go to the task bar)
-
- Why use scrap instead of notepad, etc.? It provides an easy to distinguish
- category, with its own icon and directory. Information in your computer
- constantly overflows the monolithic ways of organizing it. It's the handiest
- way of having multiple paste buffers. Unlike the Windows paste buffer, the
- information is retained after a system shutdown.
-
- Good for saving clips of text such as:
- - quotes from online material
- - email or URL addresses
- - multiple quotes from a document you are browsing
- - use it to jot down random thoughts
- - great for organizing non-linear information
-
- Scraps left open at the end of a session will reopen when you restart
- your computer.
-
- To Use
- ------
- (1) Copy a piece of text you are interested in:
- - Use Edit | Copy if a menu is available.
- - In most other places:
- --> Highlight the text by dragging the cursor across it
- -or- by holding shift and using the arrow keys
- --> Then press Control-C
-
- (2) Run SCRAP in one of the following 3 ways:
- - Double click on it's icon -or-
- - Double click on the file SCRAP.EXE -or-
- - Press Control-Shift-S while Program Manager window has focus.
-
- TIPS:
- - If you can't see Pgm. Mgr. window, press Alt-TAB until you do.
- - Adjust Pgm. Mgr. to less than full screen to see what's behind it.
-
- (3) Scrap will activate & paste the text in a window. Type any additional
- text you wish. Then close (left corner double click) or minimize
- (right corner single click) the window.
-
- When you minimize the window, it will have a name derived from the
- first line of text.
-
- On minimizing, text is saved in the SCRAPS subdirectory of wherever
- SCRAP.EXE is kept, for example C:\WINDOWS\SCRAPS if you install to
- C:\WINDOWS. Text is saved again when you close the window.
-
- (4) To use any of the scraps:
-
- If the scrap icon is still on the desktop...
- - Restore the scrap window and copy the scrap wherever you want it.
- - Use mouse drags -or- shift/arrow keys to highlight text you want.
- - Use Ctrl-C to COPY highlighted text from scrap window.
- - Use Ctrl-V to PASTE text if there is no Edit|Paste menu.
-
- If the scrap window/icon has been closed...
- - Run scrap again.
- - Single click on the SYSTEM MENU BOX (upper left corner)
- -----------
- | - | <- click here, system menu box
- |---
- |
- - Select "Open", then select the scrap you want to open
-
- OTHER MENU OPTIONS...
- Note also on the system menu box (see above) these options:
-
- - "Delete" - deletes & clears the currently displayed scrap
- - "Close, no save" - quits without saving a scrap
- - "About..." - displays this file
-
- To PRINT a scrap...
- - Using File Manager, find the SCRAPS subdirectory.
- - Double click on one of the ".txt" files.
- - Notepad will come up with the scrap. Select File|Print
-
- (5) Every now and then, delete unneeded scraps from the SCRAPS folder
- (subdirectory of wherever you installed SCRAP).
-
- You can do this either of two ways:
- - Open the scrap & select Delete (see above)
- - Use File Manager or Explorer to delete multiple scraps
