-
- SPECIES NAME: Chrysomya bezziana (screw-worm fly)
-
- GENERAL COMMENTS: The screw-worm fly is a tropical fly which has a
- parasitic larva. Around 200-400 Eggs are typically laid in open wounds
- (including tick bites) where they hatch (Mayer et al, 1991). The larvae
- devour the surounding flesh, which opens the wound and makes it
- attractive to successive attacks; the end result of which can be maiming
- or death. (Mayer et al, 1991). Though Crysomya bezziana is not yet
- found in Australia or North America, this distribution shows that both
- continents are subseptible to future colonization.

- PARAMETERS
-
- Temperature Comments: Derived from the distribution of the species in
- South Africa as well as the distribution of a closely related
- species, C. hominicorax, in the Americas (Sutherst et al.
- 1989).
- DV0:
- DV1:
- DV2:
- DV3:
- PDD:
- Moisture Comments: Based on the obseved distribution on the species
- compared to the observed moisture levels in those areas
- (Mayer et al. 1991).

- LT0:

- Cold Stress Comments: Based on the observed cold stress of C.
- hominicorax, which starts at 17 degrees (Sutherst et all
- 1989). As this was not realistic given DV0, it was
- adjusted so that stress would only occur below DV0.
- TTCS:

- DTCS:
- DHCS:
- Heat Stress Comments: Based on data in Sutherst et al. 1989.
- TTHS: Changed from 35 to 40, so that heat stress wasn't
- occuring below DV3.
- THHS: Changed from 1.5e3 to 1.5e2 to reflect the change to
- the above parameter.
- DTHS:
- DHHS:
- Dry Stress Comments: These parameter was estimated based on the
- other parameters and the distribution maps in Sutherst
- et al. (1989).

- Wet Stress Comments: Also estimated based on the same factors as
- were used for dry stress.
