2 UNIT MATHS CD INSTALLATION________________________________
Insert the 2 Unit Maths CD into your CD-ROM drive.
Under Windows 3.xx:
Open Windows File Manager, click on the CD Drive Icon (usually drive D: or E: or F:) and double click on the SETUP.EXE program. Then, follow the on-screen instructions. Alternatively, from Program Manager click on the File Menu, select Run and type D:\SETUP.EXE (Substitute the correct letter for your CD drive).
Under Windows 95:
Wait for 30 seconds and setup will start automatically. Alternatively from Windows Explorer, open the drive containing the 2 Unit Maths CD and double click on the file SETUP.EXE. Or from the Start menu, choose Run and type D:\SETUP.EXE (Substitute the correct letter for your CD drive). Or click on the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel window and follow the installation prompts as they appear.
The setup program provides you with three different components to install 2 Unit Maths CD namely TYPICAL, COMPACT and CUSTOM. If you are a novice computer user, we suggest you choose the TYPICAL setup component. If you are an intermediate computer user and not sure what drivers are on your system then we also suggest you choose the TYPICAL setup component.
For advanced computer users we suggest the following: if you have installed Multimedia Toolbook 5.0 Runtime Files, then you can choose the CUSTOM setup component and install only what you need, otherwise choose the TYPICAL setup component.
Below are descriptions of components installed on your system using each of the three setup options:
TYPICAL Installation:
Under Windows 3.xx:
The setup program automatically installs all the necessary files to run the 2 Unit Maths CD. These files include the 2 Unit Maths Program File, Natural Learning Order Form, ReadMe File and the Multimedia Toolbook 5.0 Runtime Files.
Under Windows 95:
The setup program automatically installs all the necessary files to run the 2 Unit Maths CD. These files include the 2 Unit Maths Program File, Natural Learning Order Form, ReadMe File and the Multimedia Toolbook 5.0 Runtime Files.
COMPACT Installation:
Under Windows 3.xx:
The setup program will install the 2 Unit Maths Program File, Natural Learning Order Form and this ReadMe File. Use this method of installation if you already have the ToolBook Runtime Files on your system. If you do no have the ToolBook Runtime Files then use the TYPICAL or CUSTOM installation and tick the Runtime option.
Under Windows 95:
The setup program will install the 2 Unit Maths Program File, Natural Learning Order Form and this ReadMe File. Use this method of installation if you already have the ToolBook Runtime Files on your system. If you do no have the ToolBook Runtime Files then use the TYPICAL or CUSTOM installation and tick the Runtime option.
CUSTOM Installation:
The setup program installs only the files that are ticked by the user. This method of installation is a perfect way to install or reinstall a single file.
When complete in Windows 3.xx there should be a Natural Learning Titles group with a Ruler icon for the 2 Unit Maths CD, an Order book icon, a readme icon and an UnInstall icon. In Windows 95 the 2 Unit Maths CD folder is added to the start menu. Finally re-boot your computer before double clicking on the Ruler icon to run the 2 Unit Maths CD.
NOTE: It is important that your computer system has all the necessary files for the 2 Unit Maths CD to work properly. Without these files the 2 Unit Maths CD may display error messages such as GPF or General Protection Fault. If such a message occurs re-boot your computer and install any missing files as described above.
If, while running the 2 Unit Maths CD, you see a message saying "Your SOUND device driver seems to be disabled", or "Cannot Open Wave File" then you may need to install a SOUND device driver ([MCI] Sound). See your Windows manual for installation instructions. If your system has no sound board the sound effects within the CD-ROM will be switched off. The volume control on the 2 Unit Maths CD does not work with certain sound cards. These cards usually have a manual volume control switch.
If, after starting the 2 Unit Maths CD, the picture on the "Title" page looks very dithered or spotted you are probably not running a 256 colour VGA driver. The 2 Unit Maths CD requires a VGA driver that supports 256 colours. All of the screens are 8 bit or 256 colour images. 2 Unit Maths CD can be run on 640x480 screen resolution with small fonts or at 800x600 with large fonts. It is recommended that your VGA driver be set to 15 bit or 16 bit colour resolution (32,767 or 65,535 colours).
If you find that the 2 Unit Maths CD runs slowly or if you encounter "Out of Memory" errors then Windows probably doesn't have enough memory. Consider doing the following to improve your computer's performance:
* Close all unnecessary applications.
* The 2 Unit Maths CD needs a minimum of 8MB of total memory to run. If you do not have at least 8MB of memory, you will not be able to run the 2 Unit Maths CD until you add more memory.
* The 2 Unit Maths CD needs a minimum of 10MB free in Windows for optimal performance. To check the amount of free memory Windows has available, start Windows, and from Program Manager pull down the "Help" menu then choose "About Program Manager".
* If you are running Windows in Enhanced mode, set up a permanent Windows swap file on your hard disk. A swap file of greater than 10MB is recommended. See your Windows documentation for more information.
* Defragment ("clean up") your hard disk by running a defragmentation program such as DEFRAG, which comes with MS-DOS version 6 or higher and with Windows 95.

The 2 Unit Maths Part 1 CD is designed to be used with just the mouse attached to your computer. As the mouse moves so the arrow pointer moves about the screen.
At the bottom of each screen you will see various button icons such as the left and right pointing hands. Click on the left or right pointing hands to go to the previous or next page. As the pointer moves over an object which can be clicked it will change shape to a pointing hand. Pressing 'X' will exit the book.
Within the 2 Unit Maths CD, text is often displayed in a scroll box. On the right of each scroll field are two arrows pointing up and down. To move this text just point to one of the arrows with the mouse pointer and click with the left mouse button.
Usually a mouse will have two or three buttons. The middle button of a three button mouse should not work with the 2 Unit Maths CD. In text fields like this the right button will cause the text to be copied to the clipboard for use in other programs. The right button may not work correctly on some systems which do not fully comply with the Microsoft Windows specification. The right mouse button is also used on the printer button to set up the printer and on the picture button to copy a picture to clipboard for personal use in another application.
In structure the 2 Unit Maths CD is similar to a book. It has a title page, a contents page and it has chapters.
At the lower left of each page is an owl. Clicking on this owl activates a help demonstration for the current page. Also on each page is an open book icon. Clicking the left mouse button over this takes you to the Contents page.
All buttons within the 2 Unit Maths CD change the shape of the arrow pointer to a pointing hand. This is done to indicate to you that the arrow pointer is now over a button that can be activated. Some buttons are sometimes inactive and so the caption or icon that appears on the button is greyed out. The arrow pointer does not change to a pointing hand over inactive buttons.
