  1. Import Help
  2.  
  3. Files to import can be created using either a text
  4. editor or spreadsheet program. The various fields
  5. can be separated either with a comma or tab.
  6.  
  7. Each record or row will be comprised of individual
  8. pieces of information or fields in a particular order.
  9. The fields will be numbered from left to right with
  10. the left most being number one.
  11.  
  12. It is not necessary that all the fields be imported.
  13. Any Swift POS field that does not have a corres-
  14. ponding entry in the import file should just be
  15. left blank. The fields in the import file can be
  16. arranged in any order and the proper number of
  17. the field should be placed next to its corres-
  18. ponding Swift POS field. Care should be taken
  19. not to enter a field number that does not exist
  20. in the import file as this will generate a program
  21. error.

  23. The imported information can either be added
  24. (appended) to the existing database file or a new
  25. database file can be created holding only the
  26. imported  data. This can be selected  with the 
  27. APPEND checkbox. When the user chooses to 
  28. create a new database file, the existing file is
  29. renamed giving it a .xdt extension.

  31. When the field numbers are entered correctly,
  32. the user should BROWSE for the import file. 
  33. When the file is selected, pressing the IMPORT
  34. button will import the information.
