  4. Welcome to Super NoteTab! A Freeware editor by
  5. Eric Fookes.
  6.  
  7. Introduction
  8. ------------
  9. Super NoteTab is a top-rated text editor (ZDNet
  10. Shareware Awards finalist 1997) capable of editing
  11. any number of documents of any size. It is a user-
  12. friendly but feature-rich program with innovative
  13. productivity tools.
  14.  
  15. Super NoteTab has a superb interface with a fully
  16. customizable toolbar and a tab bar to easily switch
  17. between documents. It includes the much imitated
  18. "Editor Clipbook" which lets you easily insert any
  19. kind of text in your documents (HTML tags, frequently
  20. used sentences, glossaries, ...). Super NoteTab is
  21. web sensitive so it can open links in your text or
  22. view documents in the default browser. Other features
  23. include search/replace text in all open documents,
  24. text filters (convert between ASCII, UNIX, MAC),
  25. strip HTML tags or convert special characters to HTML
  26. syntax, sort/join/split/indent lines, change case,
  27. Favorite Files menu, detailed text statistics,
  28. automatic scrolling, capture any text sent to the
  29. Clipboard, drag-and-drop text and files, shortcut
  30. menus, detailed help file, and much more...

  88. Installation
  89. ------------
  90. If your copy includes Setup.EXE, just run this
  91. program to install the editor.

  93. The following information is only relevant to users
  94. of the distribution package that did not include an
  95. installation program:

  97. There is no special procedure to follow. Just place
  98. the program and its associated files in the Windows
  99. directory or in a dedicated folder (directory).
  100.  
  101. The easiest way to set the Super NoteTab icon on your
  102. desktop is to use Explorer. Just select the file 
  103. NOTETAB.EXE and drag it from Explorer to an
  104. unoccupied space on your desktop. You can also add a
  105. shortcut to it in your Start menu by choosing
  106. Settings / Taskbar...

  109. Uninstalling
  110. ------------
  111. If you installed your copy of the editor came with
  112. an installation program (Setup.EXE), you can uninstall
  113. it by using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs.

  115. The following information is only relevant to users
  116. of the distribution package that did not include an
  117. installation program:
  118.  
  119. If you have dedicated a folder for the editor, just
  120. delete that folder and all its files (except
  121. documents you may have saved there and want to keep!).
  122.  
  123. Otherwise, just delete NOTETAB.EXE, NOTETAB.INI,
  124. NOTETAB.HLP, all files with the extensions ".FVR"
  125. and ".CLB" (in the program's directory), FILEPROP.INF,
  126. WHATSNEW.TXT, and this README.TXT file. All these
  127. files are located in the same directory as
  128. Super NoteTab.

  130. If you have executed Super NoteTab from a CD-Rom, you
  131. will find the NOTETAB.INI and FILEPROP.INF files
  132. in the Windows directory.

  134. There is no need to delete items from Windows' system
  135. registry or INI files as the editor does not store
  136. any information in them.

  262. work load I only have the time to respond to a limited

  268. the list of known problems in the last part of this
  269. README.TXT file. Also check, if possible, whether the
  270. bug has been fixed in the latest update. Remember to

  291. Note: this program was written with Delphi and uses
  292. components from a Shareware VCL package called
  293. the "Super Labeled Input Controls". The package,
  294. which I developed, is available for downloading from

  302. Known Issues
  303. ------------
  304. * On some systems, a document may stay stuck in
  305.   overwrite mode. This happens when the Ins key is
  306.   used in combination with other keys (Shift, Ctrl).
  307.   You can solve this problem by editing the
  308.   NOTETAB.INI file (Super NoteTab must not be
  309.   open!) and changing the following line under
  310.   the [Options] section:
  311.         InternalOVR=1
  312.      change to...
  313.         InternalOVR=0
  314. * On some computers, the editor window does not
  315.   always update correctly (the text seems to
  316.   disappear). This problem seems to be due to some
  317.   defective DLL that ships with Windows. Many
  318.   users noticed the problem was fixed after
  319.   installing a new Microsoft application like
  320.   Internet Explorer. You can press F12 to refresh
  321.   the screen each time this happens.
  322. * Super NoteTab cannot display fonts with OEM
  323.   character sets (Terminal, MS Line Draw,...).
  324.   This limitation is due to the rich edit control
  325.   provided with Windows. Mini NoteTab, however,
  326.   uses another type of input control that can
  327.   correctly display such fonts.
  328. * Sometimes, modal dialog and message boxes that
  329.   are supposed to stay on top of the application
  330.   disappear behind it. If this happens, hit the ESC
  331.   key to cancel the dialog and return the control to
  332.   the main application window. This problem is due
  333.   to a bug in Delphi's method for handling the
  334.   Z-order of windows.
  335. * If you are getting the 'No Default Printer Selected'
  336.   error, and you have installed AS/400 Client Access
  337.   software, you need to get the latest verson of the
  338.   AS/400 Client Access software. Microsoft's
  339.   applications have some other way of using printers
  340.   and bypassing the normal standard, which explains
  341.   why they don't exhibit the same problem.
  342. * Sometimes, when there are many documents open and
  343.   the tabs extend beyond the width of the window,
  344.   unselected tabs all of a sudden disappear when you
  345.   close documents. This is a bug in Windows. They
  346.   will reappear again when you open a new document.
