  4. HOW TO INSTALL
  5. --------------

  7. Copy RegClean.EXE to any folder on your machine.
  8.  
  9. HOW TO RUN
  10. ----------

  12. Double click on the RegClean icon.
  13.  
  14. RegClean will start by displaying a progress dialog. While this
  15. is shown, it will load a copy of the parts of the registry that
  16. it is going to check, and perform the actual scanning. Depending
  17. on how much information is in the registry and the speed of your
  18. CPU, this will take anywhere from about 2 to 30 minutes.

  20. If you have many entries in your registry, there may be times
  21. that RegClean appears to have stopped working. In fact, RegClean
  22. may appear completely halted whenever it is checking remote or
  23. removable drives.
  24.  
  25. Once these progress meters are gone, you will be prompted for the
  26. next action. You can do two things at this point.
  27.  
  28. Thing 1 - Exit RegClean.
  29.      
  30.      Well, thatÆs kind of pointless, but you can do it. Just
  31.      press the Cancel button.
  32.  
  33. Thing 2 - Allow RegClean to fix errors that it found.
  34.      
  35.      This will create an UNDO.REG file in the folder where
  36.      RegClean was run from. The file will be titled "Undo
  37.      computer yyyymmdd hhmmss.REG", where computer is the name of
  38.      your machine, and yyyymmdd is the date and hhmmss is the
  39.      time.
  40.      
  41.      After the file is saved, Regclean will remove these entries
  42.      from the registry. You will see a progress meter while it
  43.      does this. Sometimes, the progress meter may stop
  44.      momentarily, but it should resume after a few seconds. When
  45.      the meter is gone, RegClean is done. Press Exit to end
  46.      RegClean.

  48. KNOWN ISSUES
  49. ------------

  51. ╖    There is no specific control over the level of checking or
  52.   the individual items to be corrected.
  53.  
  54. ╖    The report is not easy to access (you may not even be able
  55.   to figure out how to get to it).
  56.  
  57. ╖    The dialog box loses active window status several times.
  58.  
  59. ╖    It's hard to tell when it completes the scan stage and is
  60.   readyto save the changes.
  61.  
  62. ╖    There are cases where RegClean will have an invalid page
  63.   fault, or attempt to access memory that cannot be "read". These
  64.   messages are commonly called "GPFs" or ôAccess Violationsö.
  65.   Microsoft is currently researching these issues. The messages,
  66.   while preventing RegClean from working, should not harm your
  67.   computer or the software on it in any way. Please email a report
  68.   on these messages to
