  3. *   INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL STATISTICA IF THE SETUP PROGRAM FAILS   * 
  4. *                                                                          *
  5. ****************************************************************************

  7. Automatic installation of STATISTICA (setup.exe) is highly recommended 
  8. and you should use the manual installation ONLY if the automatic program 
  9. fails.
  10.  
  11. To install STATISTICA manually, please follow the instructions below:
  12.  
  13. NOTE:  Manual installation of STATISTICA should be done from DOS and not 
  14. from a DOS session under Windows.
  15.  
  16. 1. On your hard drive, create a directory for STATISTICA (e.g. C:\STAT) 
  17.    and a subdirectory for the example data files (e.g. C:\STAT\EXAMPLES).
  18.  
  19. 2. Copy all of the files with the file extension ".ST_" from any of the
  20.    installation diskettes that have these files (you will need to check
  21.    each diskette individually) to the examples subdirectory that you 
  22.    created in the previous step (e.g. C:\STAT\EXAMPLES).

  24. 3. Copy all of the other files from each of the diskettes to your 
  25.    STATISTICA directory (e.g. C:\STAT).
  26.  
  27. 4. This step is applicable only if you have Windows 3.0; if you have a
  28.    higher version, please go to step 5.  If you do have Windows 3.0 and
  29.    you don't have the following files in your WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  30.    directory:
  31.         COMMDLG.DLL
  32.         DDEML.DLL
  33.         SHELL.DLL
  34.         VER.DLL
  35.         WINHELP.EXE
  36.    then you will need to expand these files in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  37.    directory using the following commands.  (Note that these commands 
  38.    assume that the STATISTICA directory is named "STAT" and the Windows 
  39.    directory is named "WINDOWS." If they are different, simply substitute 
  40.    your directory names for these in the commands below.)
  41.         expand c:\stat\COMMDLG.DL_ c:\windows\system
  42.         expand c:\stat\DDEML.DL_ c:\windows\system
  43.         expand c:\stat\SHELL.DL_ c:\windows\system
  44.         expand c:\stat\VER.DL_ c:\windows\system
  45.         expand c:\stat\WINHELP.EX_ c:\windows
  46.  
  47. 5. Now, delete the following files from your C:\STAT directory:
  48.         COMMDLG.DL_
  49.         DDEML.DL_
  50.         SHELL.DL_
  51.         VER.DL_
  52.         WINHELP.EX_
  53.    
  54. 6. In the C:\STAT directory decompress all files in the following manner:
  55.       *.ex_ files should be renamed to *.exe;
  56.             e.g. expand sta_dat.ex_ sta_dat.exe    
  57.       *.dl_ files should be renamed to *.dll; 
  58.             e.g. expand stl_fin.dl_ stl_fin.dll
  59.       *.hl_ files should be renamed to *.hlp; 
  60.             e.g. expand stathlp.hl_ stathlp.hlp
  61.  
  62.    Once you have expanded these files, you will need to delete all of the 
  63.    *.ex_, *.dl_, and *.hl_ files in your C:\STAT directory.

  65. 7. In the C:\STAT\EXAMPLES directory decompress all *.st_ files to *.sta
  66.    files; (e.g. expand adstudy.st_ adstudy.sta) and then delete all
  67.    *.st_ files.
  68.  
  69. 8. Run Windows. Create a Program Manager group called Statistica with the
  70.    appropriate program items representing STATISTICA modules that you 
  71.    intend to use the most (e.g. sta_win.exe, sta_bas.exe, etc.). Click on 
  72.    a module icon to start the desired program. Alternatively, you can run 
  73.    sta_win.exe (or sta_bas.exe, etc.) from the Windows File Manager or 
  74.    Program Manager.

  76. Before you start using STATISTICA, please review the readme.txt file 
  77. (you should find it in your STATISTICA directory) for more information
  78. and last-minute notes about the program.
