- In keeping with a long-standing computer game tradition,
- we proudly present a list of little facts. These goodies
- have popped up since we wrote the manual, and we thought
- we would share them with you:
-
- 1) Our sound card detection routines will not detect a
- Sound Blaster, Covox, or compatible if the factory default
- hardware settings have been changed. If you have one of
- these cards and have changed the factory settings, then
- the installation menu will list your card as a 'grayed-
- out' option. You will need to select your sound card even
- though it is greyed-out, after which you will be asked for
- the address, IRQ, and DRQ settings.
-
- 2) If you have a modem, you can call MicroProse's 24-hour
- bulletin board at (410)785-1841.
-
- 3) Effective October 1, 1992 the MicroProse 900 hint line
- will commence operation. Hints and tips will be available
- for Rex Nebular, Civilization, Darklands, and many other
- MicroProse titles. The 24-hour number is:
- 1-900-933-PLAY (7529)
- Calls cost $0.95 per minute and the caller must be 18
- years or older.
-
- 4) The install program is designed to detect automatically
- what type of sound system you are using. We have found
- through painful experience that certain machines become
- irritated when we try to figure out what kind of sound
- card they contain. These machines express their
- displeasure by locking up when you select "Configure Game"
- from the installation menu. If yours is such a machine,
- run INSTALL with the "-s" option
- (i.e., Type "INSTALL -s [ENTER]"),
- and the install program will not even attempt to figure
- out what sound cards you have--This will be left up to
- you.
-
- 5) As a general rule, it is not a good idea to install any
- game or application in the root directory of your hard
- disk. This is especially true with Rex Nebular. Unless
- you are an experienced computer user, and have a good
- reason for installing the game somewhere 'special,' use
- the default directory (C:\MPS\REX) when installing the game.
-
- 6) If you have installed XANSI.SYS in place of ANSI.SYS,
- you can expect some strange screen output from the install
- program. The program will work properly and the game will
- be installed correctly, but you will have some interesting
- little goodies to look at during installation. On some
- systems, these display anomalies will substantially
- increase the amount of time INSTALL requires to do it's
- job. If you want to speed things up you can install the
- game 'manually' by typing:
- A:MPSCOPY A: C:\MPS\REX [ENTER]
-
- Anything else? No? O.K. Have fun!
