  1. In keeping with a long-standing computer game tradition,
  2. we proudly present a list of little facts.  These goodies
  3. have popped up since we wrote the manual, and we thought
  4. we would share them with you:

  6. 1)  Our sound card detection routines will not detect a
  7. Sound Blaster, Covox, or compatible if the factory default
  8. hardware settings have been changed.  If you have one of
  9. these cards and have changed the factory settings, then
  10. the installation menu will list your card as a 'grayed-
  11. out' option.  You will need to select your sound card even
  12. though it is greyed-out, after which you will be asked for
  13. the address, IRQ, and DRQ settings.

  15. 2) If you have a modem, you can call MicroProse's 24-hour
  16. bulletin board at (410)785-1841.
  17.  
  18. 3) Effective October 1, 1992 the MicroProse 900 hint line
  19. will commence operation.  Hints and tips will be available
  20. for Rex Nebular, Civilization, Darklands, and many other
  21. MicroProse titles.  The 24-hour number is:
  22.         1-900-933-PLAY (7529)
  23. Calls cost $0.95 per minute and the caller must be 18
  24. years or older.

  26. 4) The install program is designed to detect automatically
  27. what type of sound system you are using.  We have found
  28. through painful experience that certain machines become
  29. irritated when we try to figure out what kind of sound
  30. card they contain.  These machines express their
  31. displeasure by locking up when you select "Configure Game"
  32. from the installation menu.  If yours is such a machine,
  33. run INSTALL with the "-s" option
  34.    (i.e., Type "INSTALL -s [ENTER]"),
  35. and the install program will not even attempt to figure
  36. out what sound cards you have--This will be left up to
  37. you.

  39. 5) As a general rule, it is not a good idea to install any
  40. game or application in the root directory of your hard
  41. disk.  This is especially true with Rex Nebular.  Unless
  42. you are an experienced computer user, and have a good
  43. reason for installing the game somewhere 'special,' use
  44. the default directory (C:\MPS\REX) when installing the game.
  45.  
  46. 6) If you have installed XANSI.SYS in place of ANSI.SYS,
  47. you can expect some strange screen output from the install
  48. program.  The program will work properly and the game will
  49. be installed correctly, but you will have some interesting
  50. little goodies to look at during installation.  On some
  51. systems, these display anomalies will substantially
  52. increase the amount of time INSTALL requires to do it's
  53. job.  If you want to speed things up you can install the
  54. game 'manually' by typing:
  55.     A:MPSCOPY A: C:\MPS\REX [ENTER]
  56.
