- Comanche: Maximum Overkill
-
- This Game Requires a 386/486 computer with at least 4 megabytes
- of RAM. In general, 500K of conventional memory and 3 Megabytes
- of XMS memory. This Game will not work with EMS emulators such as
- 386MAX, QEMM386 and EMM386. These drivers must be removed from your
- CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, or you should re-boot from a normal
- boot disk. To make a boot disk, place a blank disk in drive a: and type
- FORMAT A:/S. Then type BOOTXMS from the COMANCHE sub directory to copy
- standard boot files to the floppy.
-
- If you have QEMM386 or 386MAX installed, you may temporally disable
- it by pressing ALT during boot up. Try running the game with QEMM
- disabled. If the game does not run, you will need to install HIMEM.SYS
- after QEMM386 or 386MAX.
-
- If the game runs out of memory, check your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
- for SMARTDRV. Try reducing the size of the SMARTDRV disk cache or
- removing it entirely. If you are using DOS 5 with HIMEM.SYS, make sure
- the CONFIG.SYS file contains DOS=HIGH.
-
- If the game will not work, verify that your CONFIG.SYS file
- contains the line DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS. The HIMEM.SYS file
- comes with DOS 5, DOS 6, and WINDOWS. (Dr. DOS 6.0 comes with
- HIDOS.SYS which can be used instead of HIMEM.SYS)
-
- WARNING: Always have a working boot disk before modifying the
- CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files on your hard drive.
-
- TROUBLE SHOOTING
-
- DISTORTED DIGITAL SOUND WITH IRQ7
- If your sound card is using IRQ7 and you get choppy digital sound,
- you may have a noisy IRQ7 line. Change to another free IRQ. Noisy IRQ7
- lines are most common in systems with IDE/MULTI I/O cards.
-
- NO SOUND FROM THE PROAUDIO SPECTRUM
- Verify that the driver MVSOUND.SYS is loaded by CONFIG.SYS. If you
- made a boot disk, copy the MVSOUND.SYS line from your hard drive's
- CONFIG.SYS to your boot disk's CONFIG.SYS. The ProAudio Spectrum defaults
- to IRQ 5 for SOUND BLASTER emulation, so you will need to run SOUNDSET
- from the COMANCHE directory and choose IRQ 5.
-
- NO SOUND FROM THE ULTRASOUND
- The ULTRASOUND requires that the SBOS driver be loaded to be
- Sound Blaster Compatible. Check your ULTRASOUND manual for intructions
- on loading the SBOS driver.
-
- NO SOUND FROM THE SOUND BLASTER PRO16
- The Sound Blaster Pro16 defaults to 220h, IRQ 5, and DMA 1. If you
- have selected other settings, you must have the ASP.SYS driver in your
- CONFIG.SYS. If you have made a boot disk, copy the ASP.SYS line from
- your hard drive's CONFIG.SYS to your boot disk's CONFIG.SYS
-
- HORIZONTAL LINES
- Comanche requires a 100% VGA hardware compatible video card. The
- Headland Video 7 VRAM cards will display horizontal lines during the
- game if it is not set to VGA PURE mode. Run the V7VGA program that
- came with the VRAM board and select VGA PURE. If you have a Radius
- VRAM card (which uses the Headland Chipset), you must run the RADIUS
- program and turn on PURE MODE.
-
- IMMEDIATE GAME LOCKUP
- Check for HIMEM.SYS in your startup config.sys file. Type MEM and
- verify that you have XMS memory and no EMS memory.
-
- GAME RUNS SLOW OR LOCKS WITH DIGITAL SOUND
- Check for a conflict between the sound card and another card. Run
- SOUNDSET and disable digital sounds. Consult the sound card manual for
- information on resolving IRQ, I/O, and DMA conflicts with other cards
- in your system.
-
- MENU SCREENS HAVE VERTICAL STRIPES OR COLORS ARE WRONG
- GAME REBOOTS OR KEYBOARD LOCKS
- If you have fast I/O (such as on a 486), your video card may miss
- I/O commands. If possible, adjust your CMOS to add I/O wait states,
- slow down your AT BUS SPEED or change video cards.
-
- JOYSTICK THROTTLE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK
- OR THRUSTMASTER HAT SWITCH DOES NOT WORK
- Verify that your joystick card supports two joysticks. Joysticks with
- throttles can not be used with Y-cables or with cards that support only
- one joystick. Make sure that you do not have TWO joystick cards in your
- machine. If your Sound Card has a joystick port, AND your Multi I/O card
- has a joystick port, disable the joystick port on the Multi I/O card.
-
- FLIGHTSTICK PRO RE-TARGETS
- The CH FlightStick Pro can have only one button pressed at a time.
- If you hold down the "Target" button while pressing the "Fire" button,
- the target button will be repressed as soon as you lift up on the "Fire"
- button. This is the normal operation for the FlightStick Pro.
