  8.          An easy to use Zip manager.  It displays the current default
  9.          directory and you simply tag the files you want zipped.

  24.          CLEANUP.ZIP   Removes Junk BBS files from Zips.  Uses a list of
  25.                         known JUNK filenames to delete from Zips.

  27.          FILE_ID.DIZ    File descriptions of ZARC for automatic insertion
  28.          DESC.SDI        of description when uploading to most BBS's.
  29.  
  30.          Any other or additional files included in the zip are not
  31.          supplied by me and should be removed.
  32.          Use FILE_ID.DIZ as a description when uploading to BBS.

  35.  SETUP:
  36.          To use ZARC, The program PKZIP.EXE (R) must be on your disk,
  37.          and preferably within a search path.
  38.          If it is not in a search path, or if ZARC cannot find PKZIP,
  39.          an error message will appear when attempting create a zip file.
  40.          To understand more about the operation of PkZip, refer to the
  41.          MANUAL supplied with PkZip.
  42.  
  43.          To View text files, The program 'LIST' needs to be in your
  44.          search path.  It is called when viewing text files.
  45.          For any additional information concerning the use of LIST,
  46.          refer to the documentation supplied with LIST.  (LIST76B.ZIP)
  47.  
  48.          It is best to place PKZIP and LIST in a directory that is
  49.          included in a search path.  The path is set as a statement
  50.          in your Autoexec.bat file.
  51.          Then you may place this program (ZARC) in the same directory
  52.          and call both programs from which ever drive or directory you
  53.          are working in.   ( put LIST in a search path too.)
  54.  
  55.          Note: if PkZip or LIST is called from a batch file, the batch
  56.          file should NOT change directories or drive to access PkZip
  57.          or LIST.   The search path will take care of it for you.

  73.                                     HOWTO:
  74.  
  75.          After invoking ZARC, you may select files by tagging them with
  76.          the spacebar, or pressing T to tag all the files. (U to untag)
  77.  
  78.          To Zip a selection of files:
  79.          Select the files that you want to include in the zip-file by
  80.          pressing the space-bar to tag, or un-tag the selections.
  81.          The directory may have more than one page of files. Press PgDn
  82.          or PgUp to change pages.  (also Home & End).
  83.          The Arrow keys will move the highlighted file marker up or
  84.  
  85.          When pressing the spacebar, the highlighting marker moves down
  86.          one place so as to tag many files easily.   When You reach the
  87.          bottom line of files, it will automatically change to the next
  88.          page if there are additional files there.
  89.  
  90.          When you are satisfied with your selection, press Z to display
  91.          the ZIP MENU. The menu will give you will be given options for
  92.          the ZIP operation.
  93.  
  94.          You may:
  95.           * Create a new zipfile that will contain the selected files.
  96.  
  97.           * Update an existing ZipFile by adding new files to it, or
  98.             replace an existing file within the Zip.
  99.  
  100.           * Freshen an existing ZipFile.  This means that PkZip uses the
  101.             list of files from within the zipfile for consideration when
  102.             freshening the Zip. If you specify filenames by tagging them
  103.             then PkZip will only freshen or update the files tagged, IF
  104.             they already exist within the zipfile, and only if the tagged
  105.             file is different or changed from the original Zipped copy.
  106.             If you do not tag any files, then PkZip will use the entire
  107.             list from within the zipfile as a reference and will freshen
  108.             them if the files on your disk have changed or are different
  109.             from the ones within the zipfile. If the files have not been
  110.             changed, or no match can be found with the names within the
  111.             zip, then the message ' Nothing to do'  will appear.
  112.  
  113.           * Re-Date a ZipFile.    With this option, no files are added
  114.             or updated.  Pkzip reads the date for all the files within
  115.             the zipfile, and selects the newest date. Then it re-set's
  116.             the Zipfile date to this date.
  117.             Often times, you will find a zipfile with a recent date, and
  118.             find that the files within have older date.  This happens
  119.             when BBS systems add their JUNK advertisement files to the
  120.             zipfile.
  121.             Sometimes they RE-ZiP the files with a newer Zip version so
  122.             as to compress the files better and faster. This also messes
  123.             up the ZipDate.   See the section on DATE setting option.

  141.   MOVE:
  142.           *  MOVE a file to a ZipFile.
  143.              When using this option, All files added to a new or existing
  144.              Zipfile, will be DELETED from the disk after confirming that
  145.              the Zipfile was successfully generated or updated.
  146.              This option is handy for those that want to save each days
  147.              records in a zipfile archive for easy retrieval, and start
  148.              fresh each day.

  152.   Changing directories:
  153.          Change directory by highlighting the directory name with the
  154.          up or down arrow keys and pressing ENTER.   When changing to
  155.          a different directory, any tags will NOT be remembered.
  156.  
  157.          To zip files in two or more directories, zip the desired files
  158.          in the first directory, remembering the path & filename.
  159.          Change to the 2nd directory. Tag the files desired, and when
  160.          creating the zip, indicate the same path & filename used in the
  161.          first directory.  The selected files will be added to the Zip.
  162.  
  163.          Change disk Drive by entering L to Log a new drive.
  164.  
  165.          When you are finished selecting the files by tagging them, and
  166.          if you are updating an existing ZipFile, and it is in the current
  167.          directory, simply highlight that zipfile with the highlight bar
  168.          before going to the ZipMenu.
  169.          From the ZipMenu, select the zip function desired.  If a Zipfile
  170.          was highlighted then that filename will be prompted for you.
  171.          If it's the right filename, simply press enter. If it's not, then
  172.          enter the proper name instead of the one displayed.
  173.  
  174.          Do not use any extension with the zipfile name.  It will default
  175.          to .ZIP automatically.  In some cases, the zip extension may be
  176.          needed.  If the selected Zip name already exist, a warning will be
  177.          displayed. This is a safety warning, and ZARC don't always know if
  178.          you are attempting to make a new zip or updating an old one.
  179.  
  180.          If the file already exist, it can either add the tagged files
  181.          to the existing zip, or update the existing zip if the file
  182.          already exist within the zip.
  183.  
  184.          ZARC will exit and zip the files requested into the file name
  185.          that you specified.
  186.  
  187.   DATE:  The ZipDate used is determined by the date setting option.
  188.          There are 3 options:
  189.            1.  Use today's date for the generated Zipfile.
  190.            2.  Use the same date as existing ZipFile. (when updating file).
  191.            3.  Use the date of the most recent file within the zipfile.
  192.                 (including the date of the file just added to the zip).

  206.          To set date option, press D and select a method.  This will be a
  207.          temporary setting, and will return to the default each time ZARC
  208.          is invoked. Also if you log a new disk drive, you may have to
  209.          set it again.

  211.          To change the default setting:
  212.          Go to the directory where ZARC resides.
  213.          At the DOS prompt, enter:
  214.           C:> ZARC DATE
  215.  
  216.          Make a selection.  It will configure ZARC and enter the program.
  217.          Pressing enter or any other key will cancel the function.
  218.  
  219.   WORK DRIVE:
  220.          While Zipping, or updating a Zipfile, a lot of disk space is
  221.          required.  If you are short on disk space, (such as working on
  222.          drive A), you may specify a work drive that pkzip will use while
  223.          creating or updating a Zipfile.  Select this while in the ZipMenu.
  224.  
  225.   SORT:  A sorting option will now let you sort the directory as displayed.
  226.          This does NOT sort the disk. It only sorts the way it is displayed
  227.          in ZARC.
  228.          This is a simple type sort, and is often times slow, depending on
  229.          the size of the directory, and the speed of your computer.
  230.          Sorting was not the prime intent of ZARC, and therefore is only
  231.          an afterthought for those who desire it.

  234.   Shell: You may SHELL to dos, if needed, but you will need to know some
  235.          of the precautions while using the shell.
  236.          Remember, when shelling to dos, ZARC is still in memory. It uses
  237.          much of the available memory, leaving less for your shell operation.
  238.          DO NOT load any TSR type programs while in a shell unless you
  239.          remove it from memory before exit back to ZARC.
  240.  
  241.    Note: While in a Dos Shell, running certain programs will cause the
  242.          saved screen to be erased. If this happens, simply press Z and
  243.          then the escape key.
  244.          If this fails, press L and re-log the current drive.
  245.  
  246.          When you are finished with your shell, you should make sure that
  247.          you return to the drive and directory that you shelled into.
  248.          If you forget, and type exit, you can do one of 2 things:
  249.           1: Press F5 and return to shell, & return to the proper directory.
  250.           2: Press L to re-log into the current drive & directory.
  251.          If any files were changed while you shelled, you will need to
  252.          Re-Log the drive by pressing L and enter the drive letter that
  253.          you want, (even if it's the same drive), so that the directory
  254.          listing will be correct.

  256.  Register:  The following commands are available in registered versions
  257.             of ZARC.EXE only:
  258.  
  259.          V = View an ascii file.
  260.          Alt-V = Zip-View a zipped file.

  274.          Registered versions can Zip-View  A zipped file to display the
  275.          file names within the zipfile.
  276.          To view the file names within a Zipfile, Highlight the zip file
  277.          that you want to view.  Press Alt-V.
  278.          You can only Zip-View a file that has a .ZIP extension.

  280.          Registration is required for commercial use of ZARC.EXE.
  281.  
  282.          Registration fee for individuals is reduced to $ 10. US. Funds.
  283.          Registration fee for commercial, government or school use
  284.          is $25.00
