  1. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  3. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it. 
  4. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to 
  5. register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration 
  6. while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With 
  7. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the 
  8. software to an updated program with printed manual.

  10. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the 
  11. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as 
  12. stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like 
  13. commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both 
  14. cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the 
  15. method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  16. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific 
  17. group. For example, some authors require written permission before a 
  18. commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  20. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find 
  21. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or 
  22. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you 
  23. can try before you buy.  And because the overhead is low, prices are low 
  24. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use 
  25. the product, you don't pay for it.

  30. WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all 
  31. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the 
  32. warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author 
  33. assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result 
  34. from the use of WinFOSSIL for Windows 95.

  36. WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 is a "shareware program" and is provided at no 
  37. charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends, 
  38. but please do not give it away altered or as part of another system.  The 
  39. essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users 
  40. with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for 
  41. programmers to continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  42. useful and find that you are using WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 and continue 
  43. to use WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 after a reasonable trial period, you must 
  44. make a registration payment of $15 US funds to Woodruff Software Systems.

  46. The registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at 
  47. any one time.  You must treat this software  just like a book.  An example 
  48. is that this software may be used  by any number of people and may be freely 
  49. moved from one computer location to another, so long as there is no 
  50. possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used at 
  51. another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same 
  52. time.

  58. - Washington state residents must add 8.2% sales tax.

  60. Commercial users of WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 must register and pay for 
  61. their copies of WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 within 30 days of first use or 
  62. their license is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by 
  63. contacting Woodruff Software Systems.

  65. Anyone distributing WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 for any kind of remuneration 
  66. must first contact Woodruff Software Systems at the address below for 
  67. authorization.  This authorization will be automatically granted to 
  68. distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for 
  69. shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering WinFOSSIL 
  70. for Windows 95 immediately (However Woodruff Software Systems must still 
  71. be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest 
  72. version of WinFOSSIL for Windows 95).

  74. You are encouraged to pass a copy of WinFOSSIL for Windows 95 along to your
  75. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their copy if 
  76. they find that they can use it.
