  1. What is Silver Xpress anyway?

  3.    Silver Xpress is an electronic mail and fax system designed for
  4.    practically every bulletin board system or remote system currently
  5.    available on the PC market.

  7.    Reading and replying to bulletin board mail is time consuming, often
  8.    taking up your entire allocated time on a BBS.  If you read lots of
  9.    mail, spend a lot of time on-line replying to and entering new mail,
  10.    and/or have large phone bills from calling computer bulletin board
  11.    systems (BBS's), then Silver Xpress is here for you!

  13.    With Silver Xpress, you can collect mail in an organized manner and
  14.    store it on your personal computer.  Once you have collected it, you
  15.    can log off and begin reading your mail.

  19.    Silver Xpress scans for mail from pre-selected message areas (often
  20.    called forums, conferences or echos).  After it finishes scanning for
  21.    mail, it will present the results to you.  At this point, you can decide
  22.    "How much Mail" you wish to collect using the unique Silver Xpress
  23.    bundling commands called Flex Select<tm>.

  25.    Flex Select <tm> collects or "bundles" the mail into a compressed format
  26.    ready for downloading  to your PC.  This compressed file is called an
  27.    Xpress mail packet.  Once you have downloaded the Xpress mail packet to
  28.    your PC, you can log off and use the interactive Silver Xpress Off-line
  29.    Mail/Fax Reader program to read and reply to your mail.

  31.    This is where the fun begins! The Silver Xpread Reader is the most
  32.    advanced system of its kind.  Yet it is very easy to use.  The Xpress
  33.    Reader, as most people call it, will recognize the Xpress Mail packet
  34.    you just downloaded and present the mail to you in very friendly manner.
  35.    At this point you can read, create new messages to your friends, and
  36.    reply to your friends.  There is a lot more to Silver Xpress, and trying
  37.    it out is the best way to find out all it can do to save you money.

  41.    To get started, find a bulletin board system that offers the Silver
  42.    Xpress system as a service to you, a communication program with
  43.    download and upload capabilities, and a file compression system such
  44.    as PKZip, PAK, ARC, ZOO, or LHARC.  File compression systems are also
  45.    called archival systems or archivers.

  47.    You  can do this with any Xpressable BBS on which you are a user.
  48.    Ask the BBS sysop if their system is set up to support Xpress.

  52.    In summary, the Xpress system lets you do the following:

  54.      a) Select your favorite mail conferences,
  55.  
  56.      b) scan for your new mail,
  57.      
  58.      c) bundle the mail into Xpress packet format,
  59.      
  60.      d) compress the bundle using your favorite archiver,
  61.      
  62.      e) transfer the Xpress packet to your PC using a standard file
  63.         transfer protocol such as Xmodem, Ymodem, or Zmodem,
  64.      
  65.      f) use the special Xpress Reader program after logging off to read
  66.         and reply to the new mail,
  67.      
  68.      g) log back on the same BBS to upload the reply packet if you have
  69.         created mail,
