- WHAT IS A MAIL DOOR
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- What is a mail door? - A mail door is a program that allows the user to
- download mail in a compressed form, for use with other programs that are
- called 'offline' mail readers. You can select message areas that are of
- interest to you, and tell the mail reader what types of messages you are
- interested in downloading. This allows you to 'weed' out many of the
- unwanted messages, and since the messages are compressed, and you do not
- have to read them while logged on, you save yourself much time.
-
-
-
- HOW DO I GET STARTED
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- First you will need an "offline mail reader". There are many... however
- if you cannot locate one, your Sysop will most likely be able to help
- you out. Then you select your areas to download. Next you download your
- messages and logoff the system. After replying to the messages with your
- offline mail reader, you call back the system, and upload your replies.

- REMOTE CONTROL
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- There are a few features you can access by writing special messages that
- will make your life very easy...
-
- Anytime you write a message to "OLMS", the mail door knows you are going
- to perform some sort of special command. These commands are entered on
- the subject line of your message like this:
-
- From: YOUR NAME
- To: OLMS
- Subject: COMMAND
-
- There are 7 special commands...
-
-
- ADD Adds the current conference to your selection.
-
- DROP Drops the current conference from your selection.
-
- RESET Resets the current conferences message pointers.
- You can specify RESET by itself to start back at
- the first message, or RESET <number>, like RESET 100
- to select the last 100 messages in that conference.
-
- KEYWORD Adds/removes a keyword to your keywording list.
- Specify it like KEYWORD <word>, where <word> would be
- the word you wanted to add to your list. Also, you
- can put a negative sign in front of the <word> and it
- will remove it from your keyword list. Like this:
-
- KEYWORD GOOD STUFF or KEYWORD -GOOD STUFF
-
- FILTER Filter works exactly like the KEYWORD examples above
- except it adds/removes filters from your filter list.
-
- TWIT Again, TWIT is like the above two examples, but works
- on your twit list setup.
-
- REQUEST This command allows you to request files, or file
- attaches from the BBS.
-
- There are three methods to obtaining files, depending
- on the situation. For requesting general files from
- the BBS, simply use: "REQUEST <filename>" where <filename>
- is the name of the file you would like to receive. It
- will simply be added to your mail packet.
-
- If you are requesting files that are attached to a
- message, use "REQUEST <conf> <msgnumber>" where <conf>
- is the conference the message is in, and <msgnumber> is
- the actual number of the message in the conference.
-
-
-
- NETMAIL
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- For netmail, use @zone:net/node in the subject line (replacing zone, net
- and node with the actual netmail address) and as the first line in your
- message, you can put "Subject:" followed by a real subject if you wish.
-
- Here's an example:
-
- From: YOUR NAME
- To: PETE ROCCA
- Subject: @1:2401/305
-
- Now when OLMS inserts this message into the message base,it will use the
- the address 1:2401/305 to send it to. Also, if you want to put a subject
- into the message base, just put it on the first line of the message like
- this:
-
- Subject: Hi there!
- Hi Pete, how are you doing today? Etc...
-
-
- If you have anymore questions about the mail door, your Sysop will most
- likely be more than happy to help out.
-
- Happy mailing!
