- SPITFIRE MENU MAKER
- Version 1.5
- by
- Mike Woltz
- Buffalo Creek Software
-
-
- SPITFIRE MENU MAKER is a companion utility written to
- enhance the menu screens within SPITFIRE Bulletin Board
- System. MKSFMENU uses the information contained in the
- SFMAIN.MNU, SFFILE.MNU, SFMSG.MNU, SFSYSOP.MNU, SFDOOR.MNU
- and SFORDER.MNU to create fancy, bordered RIP, ANSI and
- non-color menus for callers of each security level on your
- system.
-
-
- MKSFMENU EXECUTION
- ------------------
-
- You will need to place MKSFMENU.EXE in the same directory
- where the SFMAIN.MNU, SFFILE.MNU, SFMSG.MNU, SFSYSOP, and the
- optional SFDOOR.MNU and SFORDER.MNU files reside. (This will
- normally be the SF directory.) If you attempt to run MKSFMENU
- without these files present, MKSFMENU will display a screen
- which informs you the "SFMAIN.MNU, SFFILE.MNU and SFMSG.MNU
- must reside in this directory for proper operation!",
- announce that the program is "HALTING!!!" and return you to
- the DOS prompt.
-
- To execute the program, type MKSFMENU at the DOS prompt.
- The screen will clear and the program screen ("SPITFIRE MENU
- MAKER" title displayed within the Buffalo Creek Software logo)
- is displayed. If SFNODE.DAT is also present in the directory
- you are running MKSFMENU from, it will automatically read the
- information it needs and write the menu files it creates to the
- directory you have specified as the Display File Path. However,
- if SFNODE.DAT is not found, then MKSFMENU will prompt you for the
- directory in which the menu files are to be created. For instance,
- if SFNODE.DAT is not found, the prompt:
-
- Write menus to C:\SF\DISPLAY\
-
- will appear.
-
- ***NOTE*** Pressing the ESC key from any menu will allow you
- to quit the program and be returned to the DOS prompt.
-
-
- SPECIFYING SECURITY LEVELS
- --------------------------
-
- The next prompt to appear will be:
-
- Make menus for what security level [ESC To Quit]?
-
- All that is required here is to specify the security level
- you wish to create the menus for. It is necessary to create
- separate files for the various security levels so that when the
- menu is called up, it does not display options of the SPITFIRE
- menu which may not be available to a caller with a lesser security
- access level. More than likely, you will want to create menus
- for all security levels you have available on your system.
-
- For example, if the Sysop would like menus for callers with
- a security level of 10, he/she would enter 10 at the prompt and
- press return.
-
- MKSFMENU also provides you with the option of ESCaping
- out of the program by pressing the ESC key. This will return
- you to the DOS prompt.
-
-
- MAIN, MESSAGE AND FILE MENU DISPLAY FILES
- -----------------------------------------
-
- Once the security level has been established, the next prompt
- to be displayed, will be:
-
- <C>=CLR Menus <B>=BBS Menus <R>=RIP Menus <A>=All Menus <Q>=Quit
-
- Selecting <C> will create ANSI Menus with a .CLR extension.
- Selecting <B> will create ASCII Menus with a .BBS extension.
- Selecting <R> will create RIP (Remote Image Protocol) Menus
- with a .RIP extension.
- Selecting <A> will create ANSI, ASCII and RIP Menus for your
- SPITFIRE BBS.
-
-
- If you select <C>=CLR Menus, MKSFMENU will create color
- menus for the Main, Message and File menus. For instance, using
- the previous example, selecting a security level of 10 and then
- selecting <C>=CLR Menus, MKSFMENU will create the following menu
- files:
-
- MAIN10.CLR
- MSG10.CLR
- FILE10.CLR
-
- The file name is displayed to the screen as it is created
- and when all files for the specified security level have been
- made a "Finished!" message will appear.
-
- If <B>=BBS Menus is selected, MKSFMENU will create non
- color menus for the Main, Message and File menus. For instance,
- using the previous example, selecting a security level of 10 and
- then selecting <B>=BBS Menus, MKSFMENU will create the following
- menu files:
-
- MAIN10.BBS
- MSG10.BBS
- FILE10.BBS
-
- The file name is displayed to the screen as it is created
- and when all files for the specified security level have been
- made a "Finished!" message will appear.
-
- If <R>=RIP Menus is selected, MKSFMENU will create RIP Graphic
- menus for the Main, Message and File menus. For instance, using
- the previous example, selecting a security level of 10 and then
- selecting <R>=RIP Menus, MKSFMENU will create the following
- menu files:
-
- MAIN10.RIP
- MSG10.RIP
- FILE10.RIP
-
- The file name is displayed to the screen as it is created
- and when all files for the specified security level have been
- made a "Finished!" message will appear.
-
- If you wish to have CLR Menus, BBS Menus and Rip Meus created,
- select <A>=All Menus. By doing this, MKSFMENU will create the
- Main, Message and File menus in each of the Graphic formats. For
- instance, again using the previous example, selecting a security
- level of 10 and then selecting <A>=All Menus, MKSFMENU will create
- the following menu files:
-
- MAIN10.CLR MAIN10.BBS MAIN10.RIP
- MSG10.CLR MSG10.BBS MSG10.RIP
- FILE10.CLR FILE10.BBS FILE10.RIP
-
- The file name is displayed to the screen as it is created
- and when all files for the specified security level have been
- made a "Finished!" message will appear.
-
- Selecting the option to <Q>uit will return you to the prompt
- "Make menus for what security level [ESC to Quit]?". You can
- then create menus for another security level or exit the program
- by pressing the ESC key.
-
-
- SFDOOR AND SFORDER MENU DISPLAY FILES
- -------------------------------------
-
- If either SFDOOR.MNU or SFORDER.MNU (or both) are present
- MKSFMENU will display an additional prompt which asks whether
- you wish to make menus for <A>ll Menus, <D>oor Menu Only or
- <O>rder Menu Only. The Door Menu Only option will only appear
- if SFDOOR.MNU is found and the Order Menu Only will only appear
- if SFORDER.MNU is found. So if the SFDOOR.MNU and the SFORDER.MNU
- are not present this prompt will not appear and the menu maker will
- default to making all the standard menus, i.e., the Main, Message
- and File Menus.
-
- Selecting <A>ll Menus will create the Main, Message and File
- menu display files for the specified security level and graphic
- option specified previously. Selecting <D>oor Menu Only will
- create the SPITFIRE Door menu display file for the security and
- graphic option specified previously. Selecting <O>rder Menu Only
- will create the Questionnaire (Order) menu display file for the
- security and graphic option specified previously.
-
- SYSOP MENU DISPLAY FILES
- ------------------------
-
- After the menu maker has completed making the Main, Message
- and File menu display files, MKSFMENU will prompt you as to
- whether you wish to have a Sysop menu display file created for
- that specific security level. If you respond with a Y, a Sysop
- menu display file will be created. If you respond with a N,
- no Sysop menu display is made.
-
- DUPLICATE FILES
- ---------------
-
- If you attempt to create ANSI (.CLR), ASCII (.BBS) or RIP (RIP)
- menus for a particular security level (such as 10 from the previous
- examples) and the files of that security level already exist, you
- will be notified, by a message to the screen, that the files already
- exists. You are then prompted at each file with:
-
- MAIN10.BBS already exist!
- Do you wish to create a new one? [Y/n]
-
- (Where SFMAIN10.BBS is equal to any menu file MKSFMENU finds
- already in existence.)
-
- If you respond with a <Y> for yes, the existing file will be
- overwritten and a new file is created. If you respond with a <N> for
- no, you move onto the next file(s) until you are returned to the
- program screen.
-
-
- EDITING MENU FILES
- ------------------
-
- The Sysop may use any ASCII text editor or screen generating
- program to edit the menus. An invitation is extended for anyone
- interested in programming to expand on the existing MKSFMENU so
- that when creating color menus, specific colors may eventually
- be set from within the program itself.
