  18.     Thank you for your interest in becoming a Multiboard Communications
  19.     Centre software beta site.  Multiboard is currently developing a
  20.     number of applications, and we are looking for some great beta
  21.     testers in order to ensure excellent quality our packages.

  24.  What are the benefits?
  25.  ═══════════════════════─────────────────────────────────────────────────────

  27.     Some of the benefits of being a beta site include:
  28.  
  29.       ■  You will have access to the newest beta versions of the
  30.          products you are testing as soon as they become available.
  31.  
  32.       ■  Direct contact with the authors regarding ideas, comments
  33.          or questions in regards to the packages.
  34.  
  35.       ■  You get to see the products develop in a way that can
  36.          be shaped by your comments and suggestions.

  39.  What do I need?
  40.  ════════════════────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

  42.     Some of the requirements are:
  43.  
  44.       ■  You are a sysop with a fidonet address
  45.       ■  You will poll our system for your mail regularly
  46.       ■  You will ensure that all messages and files you receive
  47.          from our system remains confidential, this means no
  48.          redistribution, lending of files, or allowing users on
  49.          your system to read the beta echo areas.  This also
  50.          means no talk about the betas to anyone via any medium.
  51.       ■  Being actively involved in the beta process, reporting
  52.          any problems and staying current with new beta upgrades.

  54.     You should also, of course, have a good working knowledge of your
  55.     system, and either experience with the package you will be testing
  56.     or experience with what it deals with.

  59.  What are the procedures?
  60.  ═════════════════════════───────────────────────────────────────────────────

  62.     Sending in your application is simple:
  63.  
  64.       1) Complete the application form
  65.  
  66.       2) Send it to us via CRASH netmail to "BETA-APPLY" at 
  67.          1:2401/305, (non-direct fidonet messages will not be 
  68.          accepted) or via internet email to beta-apply@mbcc.com
  69.  
  70.       3) Poll us back for your reply.  (We should have an
  71.          answer for you within 3 days, usually the same day)
  72.  
  73.     Once you have been accepted as a beta site, you will be required
  74.     to complete the following steps:
  75.  
  76.       1) Setup the secure password in your mailer setup to ensure
  77.          a secure environment when talking with our system.
  78.  
  79.       2) Connect to the beta echos related to the packages you
  80.          will be testing.  The echo tags are listed in the program
  81.          detail section, and the uplink address is 1:2401/305
  82.  
  83.       3) Setup your system to poll ours every 3 to 5 days. If you
  84.          are helping debug a serious program bug, you might need
  85.          to poll more frequently.
  86.  
  87.          * NOTE *  Optionally we are testing a new application that
  88.          transports fidonet mail over an internet email connection.
  89.          If you have internet email arriving on your board as netmail
  90.          (via a gateway of some type), then ask about setting up this
  91.          package that will eliminate any long distance polls required.
  92.          This however is only for those with non-fidonet internet
  93.          addresses as fidonet.org does not permit file routing.
  94.  
  95.       4) Make sure that only yourself and co-sysops have access to
  96.          the beta echos on your board, and that downlinks do not
  97.          have permission to request the echos from your system.
  98.  
  99.       5) Optional:  You can pickup an international MCC support
  100.          echo with the tagname MCC_SUPPORT.  This echo is for
  101.          public discussion about MCC products (beta discussion
  102.          here is forbidden of course)

  105.  Reporting problems?
  106.  ════════════════════────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
  107.  
  108.     The main goal of a beta site is to report problems that may be in
  109.     the program BEFORE it is released to the general public.
  110.  
  111.     A good beta site needs to have the ability to provide as much
  112.     information, and possible solutions to problems that may be
  113.     encountered.  A simple "it doesn't work" comment cannot help the
  114.     beta development of programs.
  115.  
  116.     When a problem is encounted, you must include information that
  117.     is relaftive to the situation, how you created it, and if you
  118.     can recreate the same error.  These reports should be sent via
  119.     echomail, and not netmail, as it allows other beta testers to
  120.     see the problem, provide ideas and possibly stear clear of the
  121.     same problems.  If you feel that the problem requires IMMEDIATE
  122.     attention, then post a message in the echomail conference,
  123.     and crash the mail packet to 1:2401/305, accompanied by a quick
  124.     note to us to read the message right away.

  130.     We currently are looking for new beta members for the following

  133.     Product: OLMS/Professional - Offline Mail System
  134.     Echotag: MCC_BETA
  135.     Version: 2.51.b
  136.     Comment: Must be running RemoteAccess/ProBoard
  137.        Desc: OLMS is a QWK/BlueWave compatible maildoor for
  138.              RemoteAccess 2.x and compatible systems.  Includes
  139.              many features such as keywords, filters, vacation
  140.              mail and more.  3.0 will be adding support for
  141.              other BBS platforms in early 1996.
  142.  
  143.     Product: iServer - Internet Server Relay
  144.     Echotag: MCC_ISERVER
  145.     Version: 2.5.b
  146.     Comment: Must be getting internet email as fidostyle netmail
  147.              and have a BBS that supports a JAM message base.
  148.        Desc: iServer is an internet mail processor that converts
  149.              gated messages from the netmail format (*.MSG), directly
  150.              into your BBS message base (JAM) as true internet email.
  151.              Many features such as restricting, mailbots, tables,
  152.              limits, message templating and more.

  154.     Product: Upcheck - The Premium Upload Scanning System
  155.     Echotag: MCC_UPCHECK
  156.     Version: 6.01.b
  157.        Desc: Upcheck is a file upload scanner that scans for duplicates
  158.              based on CRC, scans for virii using any number of scanning
  159.              packages, deletes unwanted BBS adds, inserts the description
  160.              into your file base, and can recompress in many different
  161.              formats.  Many other features such as GIF/JPG resolution
  162.              importing, restricting certain types of files, posting the
  163.              sysop/user status and info messages, and much more. Support
  164.              coming for ANY type of BBS in the new beta versions.

  166.     Product: NodeManager - NEW PRODUCT
  167.     Echotag: MCC_NETWORK
  168.     Version: Primary
  169.     Comment: Beta members are required to be running an IPX network
  170.              and have a multiline RemoteAccess 2.x compatible system.
  171.        Desc: NodeManager is a tool that allows a sysop running a
  172.              multiline BBS to handle all of their nodes from a
  173.              single station.  See who is on your system from a
  174.              single console, send them messages, kick them off the
  175.              system, etc.  If running on an IPX network, you can
  176.              connect to the nodes machine, as if you were sitting
  177.              in front of it, viewing what is on that screen, and
  178.              having control of the remote keyboard.  System usage
  179.              reports, graphing, and much more.  Currently only
  180.              supports RemoteAccess 2.x, however after it's inital
  181.              public release, a second beta team will be used to
  182.              create versions that support PCB/Wildcat/TriBBS and
  183.              many others.

  188.     Comment: Must be able to receive internet as netmail on your
  189.              system (ie being gated from RFC to FTSC format) and
  190.              have an internet address other than a fidonet assigned
  191.              address (ie @f.n.z.fidonet.org)
  192.        Desc: This package will transport fidonet echomail/netmail
  193.              and file attaches from one site to another site via
  194.              the internet (provided both sites are running this
  195.              package of course)  Save tons of money on your long
  196.              distance phone bills!  This scans your netmail
  197.              folder for outbound mail to listed sites, then
  198.              encodes them and sends them via email, once received
  199.              on the remote site, it decodes the messages and
  200.              restores the echo/net/files to their original state,
  201.              as if you dropped them off directly.
