  2.              About This BBS                          Chester H. Lin

  5.     Mackey Mouse is a private/limited public BBS (Bulletin Board System).
  6.  
  7.     BBS is a place for computer users to share ideas, to exchange information,
  8. and to make friends.  This kind of system has enjoyed enormous proliferation
  9. since the introduction of low-priced personal computers and modems.
  10.  
  11.     In fact, there are many kinds of BBS programs for both PC and Macintosh.
  12. For example, we have RBBS, FidoNet, GT, QuickBBS.  Then why a new one?  I have
  13. only one explanation.  I enjoy programming.  Creating something from scratch is
  14. a wonderful experience for me.  Another good reason for this is that I want to
  15. offer a rather complete system to computer hobbyists so that they can set up a
  16. personal BBS.  They can modify the program to suit their needs since I will
  17. distribute this program with source code in the future.

  19.     This system is actually run by a script language called SALT (Script
  20. Application Language for Telix).  Telix is a communication program on IBM PC
  21. and compatibles.  Telix is distributed with some sample programs written in
  22. SALT.  One of them is HOST.  HOST lets a remote caller have access to files and
  23. data in a primitive way.  I modified HOST a lot to make it a general-purpose
  24. BBS program.  Most of the functions you see here are not new for an experienced
  25. BBS user, though.

  27.     And I call this BBS program HOSTBBS.
