  1. Welcome to the Forte Agent v.99e release!

  3. Agent .99e is a pre-release version of Forte's commercial newsreader, 
  4. Agent.  Agent .99e includes all of the features and functionality of 
  5. Free Agent 1.0 plus a multilingual spelling checker, basic email 
  6. functionality, folders, sorting, address book, and kill/watch lists.

  10. 16-bit Agent requires the following:

  12. 1. Windows 3.1 or greater, or Windows NT 3.5.
  13.  
  14. 2. A TCP/IP driver that supports winsock 1.1 applications.
  15.    Agent has been tested with the following drivers:

  17.    - Trumpet Winsock 2.0B and 2.1B
  18.    - NetManage Chameleon 3.11N
  19.    - Microsoft TCP/IP-32 for Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  20.    - Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 TCP/IP
  21.    - Microsoft Windows 95 with Microsoft TCP/IP
  22.    - Spry dialer (Internet in a Box; CompuServe)
  23.    - NetCruiser 1.6 or greater

  25. 3. Access to an NNTP news server.
  26.    For posting email, access to an SMTP mail server.
  27.    For receiving mail, access to a POP3 or SMTP mail server.

  41. UPGRADING

  44. If you are upgrading from a previous version of Free Agent or Agent:

  46. -  You should back up your existing Agent databases.

  48. -  You can then unzip the ZIP file directly into the directory where
  49.    your previous copy of AGENT.EXE resides.

  52. INSTALLING
  53. ==========

  55. Follow these steps to install Agent:
  56.  
  57. 1. Create a directory on your hard disk for Agent and copy the
  58.    contents of this ZIP file to the directory.
  59.  
  60. 2. Make an icon for Agent in Program Manager.  To do this, choose New
  61.    from the File menu and select the Program Item option.  Fill in
  62.    the Program Item Properties dialog box as shown in the example
  63.    below:

  65.       Description:       Agent
  66.       Command Line:      c:\agent\agent.exe
  67.       Working Directory: c:\agent
  68.  
  69. 3. The first time you run Agent, it will prompt you for the
  70.    information it needs to operate.
  71.  
  72. 4. Once you have supplied the necessary setup information and Agent
  73.    is operational, press F1 to display the online help.
