- Welcome to InterEcho 1.18.
-
- Please MAKE A BACKUP of your setup files, message base and your
- echomail packets BEFORE you try this version of InterEcho.
-
- This demo program will stop working on 3-15-96. Nothing will be
- deleted on that day, but the INTRECHO.EXE and IESETUP.EXE will simply
- not do the job. All your setup files and messages will remain as they
- are. If you purchase the program, you only need to replace (over-
- write) *.exe to get it to work again, or simply let our install
- program do the upgrade. Your setup will not be destroyed by running
- the install program several times.
-
- NOTE:
- To enable Areafix help, you will need to manually move AREAFIX.HLP
- from the \IM directory to the config file directory, \IM\SYSTEM.
- InterEcho will look for the help file in the config file directory,
- but at this time Install will place it together with the executables.

- InterEcho 1.14 What's new - Nov 05 1995
- =====================================================================
- IMPORTANT!
- ==========
-
- Security options have been changed and added. PLEASE check in
- IESetup, under Applications/InterEcho/Options that you have enabled
- SECURE mode, unless you have _very_ strong reasons for not doing so.
- It should look like this:
-
- [X] Run in SECURE mode, enforce passwords, etc.
-
- If you don't have that little X in the checkbox, you leave yourself
- WIDE OPEN to ATTACK by anybody who wishes to sabotage an echo! You
- can easily become the entry point for hundreds of obscene or annoying
- messages and it will be too late to close the barn door once the
- damage is done!
-
- Think twice before electing to run in unsecure mode. If you only
- have a problem with one node that refuses to set up session-level
- passwords, there is a new option that lets you accept unsecure mail
- from single nodes, while running an otherwise secure system.
-
- * New picklist for Hudson board numbers in IESetup. Use it to select
- numbers that are not in use. If MESSAGES.RA is present in the
- message file directory, it will also be used to determine which
- board numbers are available.
- * IESetup will no longer allow you to change the node number of an
- existing link. This could be done in previous versions of IESetup
- and it was a common cause of strange errors, since all message areas
- were still connected to the old node number, not the new one. If you
- want to change a node number, you will now need to create a
- completely new link record and erase the old one.
- * Netmail messages exported from a BBS Netmail folder are now properly
- tagged as sent. Not with the Sent flag however, because the tag is
- actually set as "moved netmail".
- * Exported BBS netmail with Kill/Sent attribute is now deleted after
- successful export.
- * Added automatic removal of 0/0 addresses that may be encountered
- in the PATH kludge line. This was a problem with notification
- messages from some file managers.
- * IESetup will check all folder paths before exiting from the Folder
- manager when OK is selected.
- * PCBoard conference files that don't exist will now be created by
- InterEcho.
- * Eliminated incorrect error messages when truncating messages over
- 32 Kb in PCBoard format.
- * New statistics fields for outgoing mail: "Bytes compressed mail"
- and "Bytes uncompressed mail".

- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Fixed problem with Run-time error when pressing the Link button
- in the Edit Message Folder dialog in IESetup.
- * Fixed problem with lock errors on Wildcat! 4 netmail folders.
- * Improved memory handling for the Wildcat! 4 message format.
- * Extra MSGID lines should now no longer be added in PCBoard format,
- if the message already contains one.
- * Several possible General Protection Fault locations has been
- identified and fixed.
- * Some inconsistencies in the F1 help in IESetup have been corrected.
- * A minor adjustment to the dupe checking mechanism to better detect
- dupes when the same message is received from different senders.
- * The correct version number is now written to the packet headers -
- for some reason it had gotten stuck at 1.03 for a while...
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterEcho 1.11 What's new - Aug 01 1995
- =====================================================================
-
- Improved dupe checking
- ----------------------
- More information for each message is now stored in the dupe database.
- The higher precision should much improve the dupe catching. The new
- dupe index format is not compatible with the old index format, and
- is therefore stored in a new dupe database IEDUPFIL.IDX. The old
- IECODUPE.IDX will be removed automatically. As a result, your dupe
- history will be deleted at the time of upgrade to InterEcho 1.11. It's
- possible that some dupes will be ignored until the full dupe history
- has been rebuilt. We hope this minor inconvenience is acceptable,
- considering the much improved dupe checking with InterEcho 1.11.
-
- The new dupe index file can actually shrink if you specify that fewer
- days of dupe data should be kept, if there is enough disk space
- available during the dupe index maintanence.
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Areatags found in messages are no longer case sensitive.
- * Fixed the problem with the PKUnzip errors #11. It proved to be due
- to insufficient number of file handles.
- * The "Preserve formatting" option should now work better in *.MSG
- and Hudson format.
- * The allocation size for the B-Tree buffers in Wildcat 4 folder
- formats is now reported correctly.
- * The rightmost character (column) in the log window is now scrolling
- properly.
- * Added extra safeguards to protect against an overfull Hudson
- message base.
- * Improved the errorchecking during mail archive compression.
- * Fixed two potential GPF (General Protection Fault) problems when
- processing Areafix requests.
- * File manual IEMANUAL.DOC updated.

- Easier to connect links to message areas
- ----------------------------------------
- A button labled "MsgAreas" has been added to the Link dialog, found
- under Global -> Links -> Edit/New. The button brings up a new dialog
- with a list of all echomail folders, both locally stored areas and
- Passthru areas. You may connect areas by clicking with the mouse or
- pressing the space bar. Press and hold the space bar to easily
- connect many areas. This dialog will save you lots of time!

-
- The "old" Link button under Global -> Message Folders -> Edit/New
- brings up a new list of links that looks and works very similar to
- the one described above. It does the same job as before, but should
- be easier to understand now.
-
-
- Export AREAS.BBS
- ----------------
- A new button labled "Export" has been added to the Global -> Message
- Folders dialog. It brings up a new dialog from where you may export
- setup information such as an AREAS.BBS file. More export options may
- be added later.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Added automatic disconnection of link from all areas when the link
- is deleted from the Link Manager. From now on, you don't have to
- manually disconnect the link before you delete him/her.
- * Fixed problems with the SEEN-BY and Path lines when scanning out
- new messages for a very large number of downlinks.
- * Fixed problem with PKunzip's error 11, we hope...
- * Further improvements in the memory handling for the Wildcat! 4
- message format.
- * Fixed problem with netmail in Synchronet BBS.
- * File manual IEMANUAL.DOC updated.

- =====================================================================
-
- * It is now possible to use up- and down-arrow to move around
- everywhere in the dialogs. Enter must be used to open picklists.
- * All radio button clusters have been replaced with picklists.
- Checkbox clusters remain unchanged, except that up- and down-arrow
- allow you to exit from the cluster and move on to the next object
- in the dialog.
- * Added enhanced validation of the Synchronet sub-board filename field.
- * Improved memory handling when using the Wildcat! 4.x message format.
- * Fixed the occasional problems in Synchronet where the start of the
- following message would appear to have been added at the bottom of a
- message.
- * Fixed problems with some nonstandard archives and .pkt filenames.
- * Fixed minor problems with the 43/50 screen mode.
- * Fixed the bug that made it impossible to change directory in the
- Open file dialog when using the ASCII editor in IESetup.
- * Demo manual IEMANUAL.DOC updated.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterEcho 1.07 What's new - May 01 1995
- =====================================================================
-
-
- Synchronet
- ----------
- Direct support for the Synchronet BBS software version 2.11 has been
- added. InterEcho can now toss and scan direct to and from Synchronet
- sub-boards. You do not need to convert mail with SBBSFIDO, thus saving
- you lots of time and hard drive space.
-
- The Folder Import function in IESetup can read the Synchronet
- configuration files. This makes it very easy to setup InterEcho. All
- you have to do is define your sub-boards in the Synchronet
- configuration program SCFG, for example by importing the message
- areas from FIDONET.NA, and then import the configuration in IESetup.
- You don't have to manually type in echomail areas, folders or
- sub-boards.
-
- InterEcho supports all three storage methods: Self-packing, Fast
- Allocation and Hyper Allocation. Whatever method you select in SCFG
- will be used by InterEcho. It does not, however, support the
- Synchronet specific LZH compression of messages in sub-boards. We may
- add this later. InterEcho 1.07 simply ignores compressed mail. If you
- previously have enabled LZH compression, then turn it off in SCFG. You
- do not have to delete messages or sub-boards.
-
- InterEcho can toss netmail to your BBS callers, but it does not scan
- for outbound netmail since Synchronet writes outbound netmail direct
- to the InterMail netmail folder. Do the following:
-
- - Start IESetup and go to Global -> Message Folders.
- - Manually create a new folder with Alt-N.
- - Select folder type to "BBS Netmail".
- - Select message format to "Synchronet".
- - In the Filename field, enter: C:\SBBS\DATA\MAIL
- - Save and exit IESetup.
- - Start SCFG and go to Networks -> FidoNet -> NetMail Directory
- - Enter the path to your InterMail Netmail folder: C:\IM\MAIL\
-
-
-
- Further speed optimizations
- ---------------------------
- Improved overlay handling in the standard version. Tossing speeds may
- increase to the double or more. In addition, even more low-level
- string routines that are used quite often has been rewritten in
- assembly language.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Improved IESetup menu dialog for import of message folder
- configuration. Filenames and paths should now be handled
- automatically in most cases.
- * Added validation of the filename field in the Folder Import dialog.
- * Added scaning of InterMail netmail folder even when no downlink
- is connected. The parameter /NOAREAFIX is now required even for point
- systems that don't wish to scan the netmail area.
- * Long SEEN-BY lines on scanned-out messages are now split into lines
- of max 79 character length.
- * Added support for inbound archive names to start with a "P".
- * Added support for inbound misnamed PKT files with an "H" as the last
- character. (We wonder which tosser managed to do that...:-).
- * Private status should now be preserved on exported echomail messages
- if allowed in the specific conference.
- * The field for Echolist file name does now allow all valid file name
- characters.
- * Netmail addressed to "InterEcho" will no longer be tossed to the BBS.
- * Better handling of read errors in LASTPKT.DAT.
- * Fixed problem with archive naming for out-of-zone and point mail.
- * Expanded Areafix passwords from seven to eight characters.
- * Fixed a bug that could cause some messages to be deleted when
- re-tossed with /UNKNOWN and /UNSECURE.
- * Demo manual IEMANUAL.DOC updated.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterEcho 1.06 What's new - Apr 01 1995
- =====================================================================
-
-
- Re-toss bad mail
- ----------------
- Two new command line options, /UNKNOWN and /UNSECURE, lets you
- re-toss mail from the Unknown (unlisted) areas folder and from the
- Unsecure mail folder. Only *.MSG is supported. Other message formats
- doesn't always support extra information such as SEEN-BY, PATH, AREA
- and other kludges. Without this extra information, the bad mail may
- not be re-tossed properly.
-
- Note: If you plan to re-toss mail, look at the end of the Message
- Folders list and make sure the message format is *.MSG.
-
- Unknown areas <---- *.MSG
- Unsecure messages <---- *.MSG
- Dupes <---- whatever
-
-
- A re-toss of bad mail will only be successfull if you fix the problem
- that casued the bad tossing in the first place. If you for example
- spelled an area tag wrong, then you have to correct the spelling
- before you re-toss. If the mail was considered unsafe becouse of
- wrong or missing session password or packet password, then you need
- to either correct the password or switch to unsecure mode before you
- re-toss. See the dialog under Application -> InterEcho -> Options.
-
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Added over 300 new help screens with hypertext references all over
- the place.
- * Added a couple of log lines at startup that hopefully will reduce
- the confusion about the command line options, like:
- /Areafix (=Areafix only, no /Toss and no /Scan).
- * Added folder #1 to totals for the number of imported messages.
- * Added automatic reset of the dupe database in case of corrupted
- data, without confusing messages to the user.
- * Fixed the bug where message text in the JAM format sometimes would
- wind up in the wrong position.
- * Cleaned up cosmetic problem in Areafix status message when certain
- groups of commands had been disabled.
- * The memory requirements for allocating an internal cache have been
- raised. This should take care of any heap overflow problems due to
- heap fragmentation. As a result, the Real Mode version may toss/scan
- slower. We recomend a switch to the Protected Mode version. (only
- available to registered owners.)
- * Fixed a bug that caused the point address to be dropped when
- processing Areafix requests from points.
- * Demo manual IEMANUAL.DOC updated to version 1.06.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterEcho 1.05 What's new - Mar 01 1995
- =====================================================================
-
- This upgrade is faster and has 51 new features...
-
-
- Areafix
- -------
- Areafix is a nice feature that lets your links connect and disconnect
- message areas from remote, without your intervention. They do it by
- placing the Areafix commands in a message to 'Areafix' on your
- system. You have the option to disable individual commands for each link.
-
- <area> [/r] - Connect to a specified area. Optional rescan.
- %ALL [/r] - Connect to all areas. Optional rescan.
- -<area> - Disconnect from a specified area.
- %-ALL - Disconnect from all areas.
- %HELP - Request Areafix help.
- %LIST - List all areas available to you.
- %QUERY - List connected areas.
- %UNLINKED - List unconnected but available areas.
- %STATUS - Status report of your current settings.
- %RESCAN <area> - Scan out and send all mail in the specified area.
- %PAUSE - Temporarily stop sending mail in all areas.
- %RESUME - Resume from pause.
- %NOTIFY <ON|OFF> - Turn on/off periodical status reports.
- %COMPRESS <method> - Select archiving program.
- %NOTE - Write message to sysop.
- %AREAFIXPSW <psw> - Change Areafix password.
- %ARCNAME <option> - Select name and number of archives per day.
- %ARCSIZE <kb> - Set max size of compressed archive in kb.
- %PKTSIZEKB <kb> - Set max size of PKT files in kb.
- %PKTSIZEMSG <msg> - Set max size of PKT files in number of messages.
- %PKTPSW <psw> - Change Packet password.
-
-
- Forward Areafix
- ---------------
- If a downlink requests a new area (via Areafix), InterEcho may
- automatically forward the request to your uplinks, and at the same
- time create the area in the Message Folder manager and connect the
- requesting link. The auto-added area will be of the Passthru type (not
- available on your BBS). A new Echolist manager lets you define
- multiple uplinks and their lists of echomail areas. The echolist must
- be of the FIDONET.NA type.
-
-
- Secure/Unsecure Mode
- --------------------
- In unsecure mode no session or packet passwords are enforced and the
- sender doesn't even have to be linked to an echomail area for mail to
- be accepted. Make sure that you have enabled secure mode, unless you
- choose to run without the benefit of InterEcho's security features.
-
- If you have problems getting others to accept mailer session-level
- passwords, you may set InterEcho to accept unsecure mail only from
- them by selecting 'Accept unsecure mail' in the Link dialog.
-
-
- Faster tossing
- --------------
- Several spots in the tossing of messages have been optimized with
- assembly routines. The parsing of a message is now up to ten times
- faster - you should see an overall speed increase of 10%-30% during
- tossing, depending on disk speed and other system variations.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Demo manual IEMANUAL.DOC updated to version 1.05.
- * Added hundreds of context sensitive help lines.
- * We have now cut in half the internal memory requirements for large
- numbers of folders, which should make it possible to use the real mode
- version in some cases that previously required protected mode.
- * Added support for the HIDDEN, VISIBLE and MANDATORY message folder
- settings.
- * Added support for unlisted sender of inbound netmail.
- * Added the ability to specify which AKA to use for each link. This AKA
- is used in all message and packet headers for this node, including
- forwarded Areafix requests. NOTE: Make sure that you go through your
- list of links and check that you will be using the correct AKA for
- mail to each one.
- * Added dialog for 16 synonyms to the word 'Areafix'.
- * Added Areafix button in the Link dialog.
- * Renamed the 'Packet' button to 'MsgPacket'.
- * Added /AREAFIX and /NOTIFY command line parameters.
- * Added the "Preserve formatting" and "Allow high ASCII" message folder
- options for BBS Netmail folders.
- * Added check for packet passwords (if secure mode is enabled).
- * Renamed the "Title" label to "Description" in the Message Folder dialog,
- in an attempt to reduce confusion with "Area Tag".
- * Failed areafix requests are now tagged as "Received" to prevent
- repeated processing.
- * Added check of each message, to see if the sender is connected to that
- area.
- * Adjusted the sort order for links.
- * InterEcho now correctly identifies packet types 2+, 2.2 and 2.0 and
- picks up as much information as possible from each type of packet header.
- * The automatic naming of logs has been changed to follow the description
- in the manual: if only a path is given in IESetup and Automatic
- renaming is disabled, the log will now be named IE.LOG.
- * Fixed a bug that in rare cases could cause some passthru messages to
- lose SEEN-BY and Path information, as well as the terminating null
- character.
- * Errorlevels from external archivers are now picked up more reliably.
- * Fixed a bug that made InterEcho pick the name of last truncated
- (0-byte) archive instead of incrementing the last digit.
- * The address of the sender of imported netmail should now be properly
- recorded in PCBoard format.
- * The Direct flag is now only set on attach messages if the settings for
- the link specify that it should be used.
- * One more location that in rare cases could cause GPFs (in the PM version)
- has been identified and fixed.
- * Fixed a bug when using Wildcat! 4.x format that could cause different
- messages in the same folder to be exported with the correct headers
- but all with the message body of the first message.
- * Fixed a bug that in rare cases could cause some messages with EID
- and no MSGID to be incorrectly flagged as dupes.
- * Made sure that a full Hudson base actually will make InterEcho stop
- processing in all cases.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterEcho 1.04 What's new - Feb 01 1995
- =====================================================================
-
- This upgrade is focused on speed.
-
-
- Much faster tossing with internal cach
- --------------------------------------
- Tossing for links has been speeded up considerably, through the use
- of internal read caching of packets and message "laundry" lists.
- Depending on the type of traffic you have, the speed-up can be as
- great as 3-5 times! We still recomend that you use a regular hard
- drive cach program.
-
-
- Faster scanning
- ---------------
- Complete and reliable support for highwater marks in Wildcat! 4.0,
- PCBoard and Hudson message formats. As long as the message base isn't
- renumbered and the old highwater message isn't deleted, only new
- messages will be scanned. You will notice after the third time you
- use InterEcho that old messages are not scanned. We still tag
- exported messages though, so even if the highwater marks are lost, you
- will not be sending out dupes.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * New short manual for the demo version, IEMANUAL.DOC.
- * Faster tossing to Wildcat and PCBoard through removal of some
- "unnecessary activites".
- * The Protected Mode version now supports up to 16200 messages per
- folder. The standard version supports up to 4000, not changed.
- * The log info has been expanded for each packet, so that you now can
- tell exactly which packets contain dupes, unknown area tags, unsecure
- messages, etc.
- * Added validation (including automatic conversion to uppercase) of the
- filename fields for PCBoard and JAM formats in the Folder setup.
- * InterEcho will now halt with an errormessage if the Hudson message base
- is full.
- * Unsecure and unlisted messages are correctly displayed in respective
- category.
- * InterEcho will now modify each message header on forwarded messages to
- show the folder AKA as the sender of the message, since some echomail
- processors seem to have a problem if the original sender is left there.
- (Never mind that FTS-0004 doesn't say a word about this...)
- * The correct plural ending should now be used in the log messages
- everywhere: 1 message, 2 messages, etc.
- * A mail archive will only be removed if some messages were extracted, even
- if the external archiving program should return an errorlevel of 0.
- * Fixed problem with import from FIDONET.NA and area type Passthru in
- the folder template.
- * Fixed problem with running INTRECHO /TOSS before running INTRECHO /SCAN.
- The timestamps were saved so that InterEcho would think that there
- were no new messages to export on the second run. Now the timestamps
- won't be saved if you run Interecho with the /toss parameter.
- * Five more spots where GPF-errors could occur have been found and fixed.
- * Plus several tiny adjustments.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterEcho 1.03a What's new - Dec 13 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- You do not have to read the following if you are installing InterEcho
- 1.03a for the first time, or if you are upgrading from version 1.02.
- The following text does only apply to those who upgraded to 1.03.
-
- If you upgraded from 1.02 to 1.03 with the install program, you may
- have had problem converting the link data file. The install program
- version 1.03 did not automatically convert ECHOLINK.CFG to
- IMLINK.CFG. Instead it created a new empty IMLINK.CFG. If you
- followed the instructions and tried to manually convert the old link
- file with the bundled LINKCVT.EXE, you probably noticed that the new
- empty link file made LINKCVT.EXE wrongfully beliewe that you had
- already performed the conversion. The solution to this problem was
- to manually delete the new empty IMLINK.CFG and then to run
- LINKCVT.EXE once again.
-
- The new version 1.03a does not have this problem. IESetup 1.03a will
- automatically convert the old ECHOLINK.CFG to the new IMLINK.CFG, if
- IMLINK.CFG does not exist. You do not have to run LINKCVT manually,
- in fact it's not even bundled. We are truly sorry for the confusion.

- InterEcho 1.03 What's new - Dec 07 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- Full control over archive names, sizes and compression methods
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- When feeding mail to others, it's useful to be able to adjust the
- look of your outbound mail. Your links may prefer a specific
- compression program, they may not be able to process certain file
- names or they may want to limit the size of the archives.
-
- All common archive formats are supported. Some are built-in and does
- not require additional compression programs. Others do and we assume
- they are placed in a PATH listed directory. The internal PKZIP 1.10
- compatible method is faster than the others, and is recommended.
- This is the current list of supported formats:
-
- ARC (internal)
- ARJ
- LZH
- PAK (internal)
- PKT (no compression)
- RAR
- ZIP1 (1.10 internal)
- ZIP (2.0+ external)
- ZOO
-
- InterEcho will automatically select the proper de-compression method
- for inbound mail.
-
- This version will appended new *.PKT files to existing archives,
- instead of creating a new archive on every run. Another new feature
- is the option to set the maximum size of PKT files, both in number of
- messages and in kilobytes. You may also set the max size for the
- compressed archives, but it's only approximative, because InterEcho
- estimates the compressed size before the compression is done.
-
- There are six options to name the outbound archives:
-
- MO1 - always the same No matter what day of the week or the size
- of the file, InterEcho will keep adding new
- PKT files to this single archive. Useful
- for links with low volume or links that
- transfers the mail less than once a week.
-
- SU1 - 1 per day InterEcho will create one archive file per
- day, and keep adding PKT files no matter the
- size of the archive. The file name extensions
- will be MO1, TU1, WE1, TH1, FR1, SA1 and SU1.
-
- SU9 - 10 per day InterEcho will create up to ten archive files
- per day. For example, the file name extension
- for a Monday will be MO1, MO2, MO3, MO4, MO5,
- MO6, MO7, MO8, MO9 and MO0. Note that we use
- one through nine and end with a zero. The size
- of the first nine is determined by the Archive
- max size. The last archive has no max limit. It
- will grow as much as needed. This naming
- convention is the most common one and should
- work with most other mail tossers.
-
- SUF - 16 per day Works just like the "10 per day" option, but in
- addition, the last character for a Monday can
- be MOA, MOB, MOC, MOD, MOE and MOF. This naming
- convention is also common.
-
- SUZ - 36 per day Works just like the "16 per day" option, but in
- addition, we use the rest of the alphabet for
- the file name extension, for example MOG, MOH
- and MOZ. This naming model is useful for links
- with high volume mail flow, but may not be
- supported by other mail tossers.
-
- SZZ - 1296 per day Works just like the "36 per day" option, but in
- addition we use the middle character of the file
- name extension, for example M11 and TAQ. This
- gives a whopping 36*36=1296 combinations per
- day, but may not be supported by other mail
- tossers. Use with caution!
-
- You don't have to worry about the names of inbound archives, because
- InterEcho will look for them all, no matter what you have defined for
- the outbound names.
-
- All of the above can be set differently per link in a new dialog
- found under the new Packet button in the Link setup. These settings
- will be available to set from remote via Areafix commands in a later
- upgrade. The field for the packet password is moved. By default (like
- in all previous versions) no packet passwords are used and will not
- be used until you manually enter them.
-
- NOTE: Check all your links to make sure that they have the correct
- settings before running InterEcho after the upgrade to version 1.03.

- New area config file - IEAREAS.CFG
- ----------------------------------
- IESetup and Intrecho no longer use AREAS.BBS by default. A new file
- has been introduced (IEAREAS.CFG), which should solve the problems
- caused by the inherently two-dimensional nature of AREAS.BBS.
-
- IESetup 1.03 will automatically convert your AREAS.BBS to the new
- IEAREAS.CFG file. All you need to do is to start IESetup, select
- Global -> Message Folders and then save them by pressing OK. The
- AREAS.BBS file will not be deleted. If you don't want it, you may
- delete it manually.
-
- In case you insist on using an external Areafix utility, a new
- setting has been added under IESetup -> Applications -> InterEcho ->
- Options, where you can force IESetup and InterEcho to use AREAS.BBS
- and to not use the new IEAREAS.CFG, just like InterEcho 1.02. In
- addition if you set this option, InterEcho will ignore any received
- Areafix requests, even if you use the /AREAFIX command line option.
-
-
- No separation of Up and Downlinks
- ---------------------------------
- All the links connected to an area are listed under the "Links"
- button (in IESetup, Message Folder), previously named "Downlinks".
- The field for the uplink address has been removed. A label in the
- mail processing screen (INTRECHO.EXE) has been changed from
- "Echomail for up/downlinks" to "Echomail for links".
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * New link data file IMLINK.CFG.
- * A complete context sensitive help system has been added. All the help
- texts aren't done yet, but they will be in place shortly.
- * The folder type "Unlisted" has been renamed to "Unknown Areas".
- * Folder passwords are now handled correctly. Not used by InterEcho,
- but by InterEdit (the InterMail message editor).
- * Inbound archives are sorted and processed in time/date order so that
- the mail will show up in date order in the message base.
- * Leftover *.OUT files from previous runs that were interrupted for
- some reason are now processed in the beginning of the next run.
- * Logging outbound packets as *.PKT instead of *.OUT (which is the
- temporary name used while InterEcho builds them).
- * Additional information about the addressee and size of each PKT file
- is now written to the log.
- * The size of *.PKT files from tossers that don't use packet type 2.2
- is now written to the log. Previously only packet type 2.2 got the
- size logged.
- * A "progress thermometer" is now used for packing as well as unpacking
- with internal compression methods.
- * Outbound attach messages are now from "InterEcho" instead of "ARCMail".
- * Inbound areafix messages no longer lose address information, causing
- InterEcho to claim that the node is unknown.
- * Simple Areafix receipt messages have been added.
- * Origin lines that are too long will now be truncated to the correct
- length, with a warning message in the log.
- * Adding outbound messages to the dupe data base, in case they bounce
- back from somebody else.
- * Removing whitespace in area tags and paths imported from PCBoard's
- CNAMES.@@@.
- * Added check that folders with *.MSG format always has a trailing
- backslash in the path.
- * Fixed problem with notifying callers of new mail in Wildcat! 4.0x.
- * Several General Protection Errors in the Protected Mode 386 version
- has been fixed. They are usually quit simple, but tend to blow up
- rather dramatic. The Protected Mode 386 version is not included with
- the demo.
- * Info panes and lists of folders, links and areas will now focus and
- re-focus correctly when items are removed or added.
- * Plus many tiny adjustments

- =====================================================================
- InterEcho 1.02 What's new - Oct 25 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- Areafix
- -------
- This version supports areafix requests, a method for your downlinks
- to automatically turn on/off echomail areas from remote, without your
- intervention. InterEcho scans the InterMail netmail folder for
- messages to Areafix. If encountered, they are processed and removed.
-
- You may stop InterEcho from processing Areafix messages with the new
- command line switch /NOAREAFIX. InterEcho will not scan for Areafix
- messages if there are no downlinks, which should save a few seconds
- for point systems and "end nodes".
-
- The areafix password on the subject line (Re-field) will be checked
- against the Areafix password field in the Link manager in IESetup.
-
- There are currently only two areafix commands: Connect and Disconnect.
- More areafix options will be added soon in free upgrades.
-
- To use Areafix, tell your downlinks to do this:
-
- ■ In the InterMail Message Editor, press INS to create a new message.
- ■ In the To-field, enter AREAFIX and press ENTER.
- ■ In the address field (after the comma) enter the nodenumber for
- your uplink, for example 1:369/102 and press ENTER.
- ■ In the Re-field, enter your areafix password and press ENTER.
- ■ In the message body, enter the echomail areas that you want to
- connect, one area tag per line. Example:
-
- SCUBA
- INTERMAIL
-
- ■ For those echomail areas that you want to disconnect, place a minus
- sign just before the area tag, for example:
-
- -HUMOR
- -SYSOP369
-
- ■ Press Ctrl-Z to save the message.
- ■ Let InterMail send it to your uplink.
-
-
- IESetup
- -------
- * All directory names are now automatically validated, converted to
- uppercase and supplied with a trailing backslash (\). IESetup can
- create the directory if it does not exist. If you have been using
- previous versions of IESetup, the path may be stored in lowercase in
- the setup files. Please correct this by pressing ENTER in each path
- field in IESetup.
- * The menus in IESetup will now stay in place under dialogs, so that
- pressing ESC or OK will bring you back to your previous position in
- the menu tree.
- * Added help & hints on the status (bottom) line just about everywhere.
- * That About pop-up is now displayed at startup, with a 3-second timer,
- and ESC, ENTER and OK will make it go away. The command line switch
- /E can be used to suppress this pop-up.
-
-
- InterEcho 1.02 Protected Mode 386
- ---------------------------------
- If you want faster tossing speed or if you are using several thousands
- of message areas, you may want to run InterEcho in protected mode. The
- special protected mode version of InterEcho and IESetup uses DPMI (DOS
- Protected Mode Interface) which gives them direct access to all your
- system RAM. This makes it possible for them to keep a lot more data
- available in fast RAM, which in turn minimizes the need for hard drive
- access and increases the tossing speed.
-
- The Protected Mode 386 version is available (via InterQuery) for
- registered users only, and is NOT bundled with the demo. The system
- requirements are 386 or higher and 2 MB extended memory or more.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * New install program and convenient guided installation tour in IESetup.
- * Users are notified of new mail in Wildcat! 4.0
- * The total number of messages is now correctly updated in Wildcat! 4.0
- * Added a secure work directory, both for unpacking secure mail and for
- other programs that need to send announcements etc. in *.PKT form.
- * All vital paths are checked on startup and appropriate error
- messages are given if any of them are undefined.
- * The formatting of outbound Wildcat! 3.5-3.91 and Wildcat! 4.0
- messages should now look a lot better. In fact, the formatting
- has been improved for most message types.
- * Logging the size and number of messages of each tossed packet.
- * Adding a "From: "-address on imported BBS netmail in PCBoard format.
- * The problem with left-over *.pkt files is fixed.
- * Will now use the SEEN-BY AKAs as defined in IESetup.
- * ARCmail 0.60 naming convention followed for all in-zone mail except
- for points.
- * A possible buffer overrun in the internal unpacking of ZIP
- files has been fixed.
- * Alt-X has now been implemented in many more places. If you press
- Alt-X while InterEcho is working, please allow InterEcho to finish
- the current job, to avoid error in your message base.
- * If the dupe database should be scrambled in any way, it will
- be deleted automatically and a fresh database will be created.
- * Fixed the problem where Squish would regard the compressed
- mail archive as one in a series.
- * Some optimizations in the tossing speed for downlinks
- * Fixed problem with outbound attach netmail to "SysOp".
- * Serial number check for registered version.
- * In PCBoard format, outgoing mail from "SYSOP" will now have the
- name of User # 1 inserted instead.

- =====================================================================
- InterEcho before 1.02 What's new - Fall 1994
- =====================================================================
-
-
- Netmail to/from your BBS
- ------------------------
- This version is capable of tossing incoming netmail to your BBS. You
- may have as many netmail folders as you wish, each whith it's own
- node number. The "To:" address determins to what BBS netmail folder
- inbound netmail will be tossed.
-
- InterEcho imports both from inbound echomail *.pkt files and from the
- InterMail netmail folder. This means that even those netmail you
- receieve as no-compressed *.pkt files from other nodes than your
- regular echomail uplinks, may be tossed to your callers on your BBS.
- This feature is not so common among tossers.
-
- By default, netmail for local InterMail users (the names you have
- entered in IESetup -> Global -> Local Users) area not imported. In
- addition, netmail for SYSOP, IMSERVER, AREAFIX, AREAMGR, ARCHIE,
- RAID, ALLFIX, and VERONICA are not imported. If you have more
- receiver names that shouldn't be imported to the BBS, you may enter
- them in an ASCII file named NOBBSNET.LST which should be placed in
- the system directory \IM\SYSTEM.
-
- The PCBoard 15.x "ROUTE" extended header line can be used to specify
- the destination address for outbound netmail or enter it on the first
- line of the message, like this:
-
- @>1:369/102
-
- or
-
- To: 1:369/102
-
-
- Fast import of folder setup
- ---------------------------
- We have added support for fast import of area configurations from
- AREAS.BBS, PCBoard 15.0+ and Wildcat 3.5-3.91. Information about
- passthru areas and downlinks in AREAS.BBS are also imported. This
- nice feature makes it easy to fast install many echomail folders. It
- will save you a lot of typing!
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Fixed bugs in how AREAS.BBS was written by IESetup.
- * Fixed problems on import of large CNAMES.@@@ files and with invalid
- entries in CNAMES.@@@ (PCBoard).
- * Imported netmail should now show the correct originating zone address.
- * Netmail posted by offline readers in Wildcat! 4.0 should now show
- the correct originating address.
- * Fixed problems with empty body in messages to downlinks.
- * Additionals optimizations of scanning and message handling speed.
- * Fixed problem with the Local status flag on exported netmail from
- BBS netmail folders.
- * Some speed optimizations in the scanning of *.MSG folders, as well
- as an approximate 5% speed increase in the scanning of all message
- base types.
- * Fixed the problem with IESetup truncating lines in AREAS.BBS.
- * InterEcho now creates the Wildcat! 4.0 message files, if they don't
- exist. Neither Makewild, wcREPAIR nor wcPACK does it.
- * The Add and Remove buttons in the Downlink menu has been assigned
- short cut keys Alt-A and Alt-R.
- * Fixed problems with scanning and tossing to Wildcat! 4.0.
