  5. 1. Using the CD
  6.  
  7. Most of the editors and utilities and some of the level files 
  8. included on this disc must be copied to your hard drive to 
  9. function properly. Refer to the respective rooms in the book 
  10. and the documentation files accompanying the programs on this 
  11. CD for detailed instructions. To make playing the WADs from 
  12. the CD easier, the WAD files for each game appear in 
  13. \WADS\DOOM1\PLAY, \WADS\DOOM2\PLAY, and \HERETIC\PLAY. Use 
  14. these CD directories as the locations of WAD files in front-end 
  15. DOOM loading tools like DOOM-IT included on the disc. The ..\PLAY 
  16. subdirectories include only those WADs that can be played from 
  17. the CD without altering your main WAD file or running utilities 
  18. to insert sound and graphics. To start the menu program which 
  19. installs DOOM-IT and other software to your hard drive, type 
  20. \DOOMCD from your CD-ROM drive prompt. Also, if a converted 
  21. WAD does not exist for your game version, try the conversion 
  22. programs located in \BONUS\UTILS to convert them yourself.

  25. 2. How the CD is Organized
  26.  
  27. Level editors and general utilities which are discussed in 
  28. the book can be found in the directories \EDITORS and \UTILS.  
  29. All other editors, tools, and utilities are located in \BONUS. 
  30. Tutorial levels discussed in the book are located in \SAMPLE. 
  31. Example levels created by various designers are located in the 
  32. \WADS directory.  The example levels are separated into three 
  33. main categories-- DOOM levels are in \WADS\DOOM1, the DOOM II 
  34. levels are in \WADS\DOOM2, and Heretic levels are in \WADS\HERETIC. 
  35. WADs designed for more than one game version will, in most cases, be 
  36. included in all appropriate directories.

  38. For instance, levels that work for DOOM and DOOMII appear in 
  39. both directories, and levels that work for Deathmatch and Single 
  40. play appear in both directories.

  43. 3. Installing Windows Applications from the CD
  44.  
  45. * (Windows programs include DOOMCAD, WINDEU, and WINTEX.) *

  47. To install the Windows applications from the CD-ROM, do the 
  48. following:
  49.  
  50.     1. Start Windows.
  51.  
  52.     2. Select File from the Program Manager menu.
  53.  
  54.     3. Select Run from the File menu.
  55.  
  56.     4. Type x:\SETUP, where x is the letter of your 
  57.         CD-ROM drive.
  58.  
  59.     5. Follow the instructions provided by the setup 
  60.         program.
  61.  
  62. The program will create a Program Manager group named "Doom 
  63. Utilities", which contains icons for running the windows 
  64. programs, viewing their help applications, and viewing the 
  65. documentation provided by the software's authors.
