- GameComm Client 1.2
- Steve deRochemont
- MPI
- -------------------
- GameComm is designed to ease communication and facilitate setting up games
- for several multiplayer games. It operates as a companion to GameSpy (www.gamespy.com).
- It accomplishes this by automatically notifying other interested parties what game
- and the server you are playing on whenever you start a new game using GameSpy.
- They can use the client to launch the same game and automatically connect to your game.
-
- GameComm (previously known as QComm) has evolved from a QuakeWorld only solution
- to now include Quake 2, Hexen II, the original Quake, and QuakeWorld.
-
- Features:
- * Lists players currently connected to your GameComm Server
- * Shows each player's information when they are in a game
- (i.e. player name, team, skin, colors depending on what is applicable to the type of game)
- * Shows each player's current game server (if any)
- * Each player's current game server is automatically updated
- * Click on a player name to launch the proper game and automatically connect to their server
- * Uses GameSpy player profiles and game configuration information
- * IRC like chat with other players between game
- * URGENT chat message can Alt-Tab you from Quake to see the message, if desired
- * Allows for entering of a password to support private servers
- * Supports observer/spectator mode in addition to normal games
-
- Installation
- ------------
- Run the WinZip self extracting archive. It will unzip to the TEMP directory by default.
- Run the client setup. This will put an icon in your programs menu.
-
- If you get the following error:
- MessageBox says "Run-time error '339', Component 'msgblst32.tlb not correctly registered:
- file is missing or invalid"
-
- 1. Open up a DOS prompt to the place you extracted the setup files.
- 2. Unzip all these files to a temporary directory.
- 3. Examine the paths in the INSTALL.BAT before running. Modify to suit your windows configuration.
- 4. Run INSTALL.BAT
- 5. Try GameComm again
-
- Using
- -----
- To use the GameComm client you need to connect it to a GameComm server.
-
- Download and install one of the GameComm servers (http://www.gate.net/~sed/GameCommDownload.htm)
- (available as a native Win95/NT EXE or as a Java App) and run it.
-
-
- Connect to the IP address of your server (or a friend's) and that's it!
-
-
