- I. FROM THE PRESIDENT OF TECH-ROM LIBRARY
-
- TECH-ROM LIBRARY is designed with the computer users in mind.
- TECH-ROM LIBRARY has a powerful tool on each disc which we call
- REQUEST FOR QUOTATION (RFQ). The RFQ Program will help you find
- who has the products and services that you want at the price you
- are willing to pay. Our goal is to help you become the best,
- most informed buyer in the world. Anyone with a modem can find
- a special supplier that has the product you need, in stock, at
- the best possible price, based on the service level the seller
- wants to offer.
-
- The power of the RFQ Program is that you can list any product that
- you want, even those not listed in our Product Library. Tech-Rom
- Library's goal is to set up the network to find someone willing to
- sell you that product within a few hours of your request.
-
- II. THE PURPOSE OF TECH-ROM LIBRARY MULTIMEDIA WINDOWS SHOPPER.
-
- TECH-ROM LIBRARY (TRL) offers CD-ROM users Multimedia Windows
- Shopping for world hardware, software and services. TRL offers
- Windows shopping through mulitmedia product presentations, some of
- which are interactive for actual trial. To add more spice, TRL
- has tossed in some playable games worth more than the price of
- the CD-ROM alone.
-
- As an industry innovator, TECH-ROM LIBRARY makes computer shopping
- fun by putting competitive product presentations on a CD-ROM with
- automated graphics and sound. (For example, you can compare
- several computers in a matter of minutes.) Full color videos of
- product demonstrations, slide shows of product models and tech-
- nical graphics come to life on your office or home computer.
- There are no salespeople, stacks of catalogs, or unanswered voice
- mail.
-
- Better yet, TRL's CD-ROM offers comparitive video shopping with a
- RFQ (Request For Quotation) feature. To get price quotes and
- availability on products in hours instead of weeks, drag the items
- onto the RFQ clipboard, click the Teddy Bear to send the request
- to TRL's SUPERDAT(ABASE) (modem required, otherwise print screen
- and fax to Tech-Rom Library). Multiple resellers will access
- TRL's SUPERDAT and then fax or phone their bids to you. This
- feature effectively leverages your time so you get a lot of action
- for a little of your time.
-
- III. RUNNING THE DEMOS
-
- MPC Compliance: To get the most enjoyment from your computer,
- your monitor should be able to display 256 colors. (Graphics made
- for 256 colors look distorted when viewed on a 16 color display.)
- A Sound Card is strongly recommended, since many of the demos have
- gorgeous sound. A double-speed CD-ROM Drive would improve per-
- formance.
-
- We have tested all Manufacturer's and Publisher's Demos (herein-
- after referred to as MPD,s) that are on this disk. We have found
- that the order in which they are run does make a significant
- difference. One or two MPD's that run as designed will lock up
- the computer if they are run after other MPD's have been executed.
-
- Not all of the MPD's that have been included are MPC compliant.
- We have included them because multimedia is new and M&P's are
- stretching to take use of this powerful communication tool. Also,
- due to the newness of the industry your computer might not be
- completely MPC Compliant. This brings in factors that are beyond our
- control.
-
- The following suggestions are given with the intention of making
- your visit with Tech-Rom Library as enjoyable as possible.
-
- Using the excape key: Most demos can be exited by using the Esc
- Key.
-
- Program loading delays: The access time of your CD-ROM DRIVE has
- the greatest impact on the demo loading time. Drive access times
- longer than 350ms will cause a longer delay in program loading
- and degrade sound reproduction.
-
- Because of the delay time caused by the CD-ROM Drive, there is a
- great tendancy to click the mouse button repeatedly. This will
- not help. If you see the CD-ROM Drive light on your drive
- flickering, then it is working and you should wait.
-
-
-
- DEMO INFORMATION
-
- AmiPro Demo (LOTUS) will run better if you copy the
- [cd-drive letter]:\SW\LOTUSAMI\MENU\AMIPROWM.INI
- to [hard drive letter]:\WINDOWS\AMIPROWM.INI
-
- Bible Paint Demo (ARK)- Because the demo tries to write to the
- CD-ROM Drive, you will need to run it from the dos level if you
- desire to try it. Simply copy the files from the
- [CD-ROM letter]:\sw\ark\menu\biblpant\*.* to a directory on your
- hard drive. This demo will not run with all mouse drivers.
- There is a generic mouse driver included in the directory. If
- you have trouble running this demo, try using the included mouse
- driver.
-
- GATEWAY 2000 DEMO requires certain data link libraries copied to
- your Windows directory. The simpliest way to do this is to dou-
- ble click on the picture for the Gateway item listed, "run this
- first time only." This will setup the Gateway Demo. The Only
- difficulty will be that the TRL screen is put behind the Program
- manager screen. You can delete the Gateway 2000 icon and group
- and then bring the Tech-Rom Library screen to the front by
- clicking on it. This demo has a complete variety of multimedia:
- Sound, Video and animation. Try it! You'll like it!
-
- Super Show and Tell (Ask Me Multimedia) takes quite some time to
- load but it is worth the wait.
-
- WINFAX PRO DEMO (DELRINA) does not like the 256 color driver we
- used and altered the colors of our Windows Screen. We included
- it because it is a nice demo with the exception of that one
- feature. You will need to exit windows and reenter to reset the
- colors.
-
- IV. A NOTE TO PROGRAMMERS
-
- In future issues we would like programmers to consider incorp-
- orating the following into their demos:
-
- 1. Make the demos to run everything for a particular demo
- from inside one directory.
- 2. Do not make your demos path dependant. They should run
- in the default directory.
- 3. Make your programs process data transfer behind the
- scenes while something else is happening on screen
- to eliminate dead time.
- 4. Since the programs will reside on a CD-ROM, do not make
- your programs in such a way that they need to
- write to the CD-ROM Disc.
-
- V. PET CONTEST
-
- Starting on the next issue, we will have a slide show of your
- cutest and funniest pet photos. We will let the users vote for
- their favorite through the RFQ (Request For Quotation) Program.
- The winner will receive a free year subscription to Tech-Rom
- Library. Send your photo to:
