SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION OF CSE HTML VALIDATOR PROFESSIONAL v5.0x
If you have never installed CSE HTML Validator Professional before, then you can ignore the rest of this file and install the software normally. Otherwise, please read the rest of this document to avoid problems and lost data.
IF YOU HAVE A 4.5x OR EARLIER VERSION OF CSE HTML VALIDATOR ALREADY INSTALLED (NOT CSE LITE)
1. First, save and backup these files if you've made changes to them and want to keep them:
a) The configuration file (normally "htmlval40.cfg", "htmlval45.cfg", "htmlval50.cfg", etc.). Note that using an older configuration file will cause your validations to be less effective but should still work.
b) The scratch pads (normally "scratchpad1.txt" and "scratchpad2.txt").
c) The tag inserter configuration (normally "taginsertercfg.txt").
d) The CSS inserter configuration (normally "cssinsertercfg.txt").
2. Uninstall all versions of CSE HTML Validator Professional v4.5x and prior.
3. Install the new version of CSE HTML Validator Professional.
IF YOU HAVE A 5.0x VERSION OF CSE HTML VALIDATOR PROFESSIONAL ALREADY INSTALLED (NOT CSE LITE)
1. The installation program will overwrite these files so you may want to back them up or rename them before installing if you have made changes to them: "htmlval50.cfg", "cssinsertercfg.txt", and "taginsertercfg.txt".
2. Install the new v5.0x version over your current v5.0x installation, without uninstalling the previous version. INSTALL ONLY INTO THE SAME DIRECTORY AS THE VERSION ALREADY INSTALLED. If you are installing into a different directory, then you need to first uninstall the currently installed version and then install the new version into the new directory. Note, however, that installing into a different directory is likely to cause problems because some old options that point to the old directory path may be used.
IF YOU HAVE CSE HTML VALIDATOR LITE INSTALLED
You may have both CSE HTML Validator Lite and CSE HTML Validator Professional installed at the same time so you do not need to uninstall CSE HTML Validator Lite in order to install CSE HTML Validator Professional. Be sure to install each of these two programs into their own separate directories (the default directory for each program is recommended).
IF YOU ARE A REGISTERED USER
Please note that CSE HTML Validator Professional v5.0x will not accept registration names and keys from v4.5x or earlier versions. To request that your current registration information be sent to you, please see the "Registration Key Sender" section on the "Support" page at
http://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval/support.html
You will also need to obtain a registerable version before registering CSE HTML Validator Professional v5.0x. The publicly available evaluation version cannot be registered. You can obtain this version from CSE HTML Validator's web site. Please see the email containing your registration information that was sent to you when you purchased a license for more information.
