- Music File (Windows)
- ==============================================
-
- This document contains important information
- not contained in the help files.
-
-
- ========== Installation ======================
-
- The Music File CD-ROM contains two versions of
- the program. Windows 3.11 (16 bit) and Windows
- 95 / NT (32 bit).
- Each version has its own set-up program as
- follows.
-
- * Windows 3.11
- d:\win311\setup311.exe
-
- * Windows 95 / NT
- d:\win95NT\setup95.exe
-
- Where d: is the CD-ROM drive letter.
-
- * Hard disk space
- The Music File requires up to 21 Mb of temporary
- hard disk space during installation and between
- 7 and 14 Mb once installed. The exact amount
- depends on standard components which may already
- be present on the system.
-
- * Windows NT
- Some Windows NT users may need to set up their
- own icons or shortcuts after the program has
- been installed. The program file is
- musicfile.exe which will be found in the
- installation directory.
- (default: c:\..\musicfile)
-
- * Video for windows
- Windows 3.11 users may need to install Video
- for Windows in order to see the intro animation.
- Run d:\vid_win\setup.exe
-
-
- ========== Operation ==========================
-
- The launching of Music File can be speeded up
- considerably by switching off the intro
- animation. This option is accessed through the
- options dialogue (press the options button, top
- left on the main screen).
-
- The overall appearance of the Music File screens
- may be affected by any display settings not using
- standard small fonts. Windows 3.11 users check
- Windows Set-up (program icon usually located in
- main group). Windows 95 users use the display
- properties (right click on desktop and select
- properties).
-
- * Screen Colours
- You can avoid any strange colour changes observed
- when swapping between Music File and other
- applications by setting your screen display to
- 16K (64,000 colours) or higher. If this is not
- possible you will experience some colour changes
- but they are nothing to worry about.
-
- * General note:
- It is good 'housekeeping' practice to close any
- windows application including Music File before
- exiting windows, whether rebooting or switching
- off your machine.
-
- ============= Connections ======================
-
- * Windows 3.11
- Before you use the connections screen to activate
- a website from the database you will need to
- set-up a connection to your browser as follows.
-
- 1. Press 'options' button on main screen
- 2. Select 'general' tab and press 'browse' button
- 3. Locate the program file of the web browser you
- wish to use. e.g. c:\netscape\netscape.exe
- 4. Select the program file and press 'OK'
-
- The options, general screen will now display the
- full path for your browser, and, separately the
- name of the program. The program name is used to
- communicate with the browser (DDE name), if you
- have any problems with communication contact
- your browser supplier with this information
-
- It is known that there are problems with the
- current version of Internet Explorer (version 2.1
- for windows 3.11 only).
-
- Remember that you can always copy the web address
- from Music File and paste it into your browser
- without using the 'activate' function.
-
- ========== Trouble shooting ====================
-
- There is a trouble shooting section in the help
- file. If you need to read the help file without
- launching MusicFile double click the musicfil.hlp
- file in the music file directory.
-
- * Could not locate File :Music.M14.
- Make sure the Music File CD is in the CD-ROM drive.
- If it is, type the CD's drive letter and click
- Browse to look for the file. If Music File still
- can not find the file, make sure that Windows can
- read the CD-ROM. Look for the CD-ROM drive using
- File Manager (Windows 3.1) or My Computer
- (Windows 95). If Windows can't find the CD-ROM
- drive shut down Windows and re-start your computer.
-
- * Error loading title file
- Turn off 32-bit access in Windows 3.1. From
- Control Panel choose 386 Enhanced. Click Virtual
- Memory then Change.
-
- * This program has performed an illegal
- operation and will be
- * shut down. If the problem persists,
- contact the program vendor
-
- You may have tried to close the program whilst
- one of its dialogue boxes was still open. Close
- all dialogues before closing Music File.
-
- * If all else fails
- If you've tried everything you may have to
- re-install Music File. However, first back up
- your data or you will lose all your collections.
-
- To re-install:
-
- 1. Un-install Music File using the Uninstall
- program.
- 2. Re-install Music File.
