- RUNOFF GAME
-
- by William Soleau
-
-
- Requires EGA/VGA & Mouse
-
-
- Version 2.1
- (revised June 1992)
-
-
- *** Directions ***
-
- The object of the game is quite simple, yet very challenging. You
- are trying to create a path through the woods for marathon runners to
- race through. You have 40 seconds in which to start creating your track
- before the runoff begins. This starting time decreases as you get to the
- higher levels. You have to keep laying down paths so that the runners
- don't end up getting lost in the thick forest.
-
-
- ** Placing Tracks **
-
- At the bottom of the screen you will see 5 boxes. In each of
- them there is a section of track. The present track to be placed is
- highlighted in yellow. You move your mouse arrow to the grid in which
- you want to place that particular section of track. By clicking the left
- button, the track will be placed. The next tracks will move over into
- the waiting area at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to look
- ahead to see what tracks are next in line. Sometimes you will need a
- particular shaped track and will have to put down a few others anywhere
- just to get to it. The best place to begin is the STARTING GATE, which
- is the lightly shaded blue grid. It is from here that the race will
- start.
-
- There are a few places where you cannot place your tracks. They are
- the grids with lakes or cliffs in them. You will have to make your way
- around these obstacles. You can place a track on top of another track
- to change it, however there is a time delay which will prevent you from
- laying down any more for a few precious seconds. This delay can seem
- like minutes if the runners have started and are headed your way!
- Therefore, place your pieces carefully. You'll have to think 3 or 4
- tracks ahead to be successful.
-
-
- ** Runners **
-
- When the 30 second clock has expired, the runners in yellow will
- begin out of the STARTING GATE and slowly make their way through the
- course you have put down. When the runners reach a point where there
- is no track, the level will be over and your points will be computed.
- Occasionally, there will be a track which says HILL on it. If you
- can get the runners to go through it, you will slow them down for awhile.
- This can give you some valuable extra time to keep ahead of the racers.
-
-
- ** Scoring **
-
- Scoring is located in the box at the bottom of the screen. The
- longer the runners keep moving along your course, the more points are
- added to your score. Bonus points are scored if you can get the runners
- to cross over themselves. The Bonus scoring for crosses is as follows.
-
- 100 points for each cross
- 1000 points for 4 crosses
- 3000 points for 8 crosses
- 5000 points for 12 crosses
-
- On the higher levels, you will see a (pink) bonus track on the game
- board. If you can get the runners through those, 400 points are added.
- At the upper right side of the screen is a box which will tell you the
- score you need to go onto the next level. To reach the next level, you
- must score at least 200 points or 500 points times (*) the level you're
- on. (whichever is higher)."
-
- At the end of each level, 40 points are deducted for each track that
- the runners did not use.
-
-
-
- ** RUNOFF OBJECTS **
-
- (see then instructions in the game itself to see graphics of these objects)
-
-
- If you see a Finish Line on the game board when the level begins,
- YOU MUST!! have your runners finish there, or the Game will be OVER no
- matter how many points you scored.
-
-
- ******* IMPORTANT NOTE *******
-
-
- The previous version of the unregistered game had only 7 levels.
- However, since I believe that the Shareware concept should be one where
- the user is able to try the complete version, I therefore have given
- you all 50 levels of play. Shareware is USER supported. So please,
- if you like the game please register. A registration for just one of
- my games entitles you to special offers and discounts on any of my
- other 30 Shareware games! Shareware depends upon you for programers
- like myself to continue to produce inexpensive software as an
- alternative to high priced commercial packages.
-
- So if you continue to play the game regularly please print out
- the registration form that is available at the closing screen of
- the game or in the RUNOFF.REG file provided with this game.
-
-
- Thanks......... and Enjoy............
