  1. Psion Series 5 Message Suite (1.52)

  7. VERY IMPORTANT. Message Suite is not compatible with the "EasyFax" 
  8. software. If you have a version of EasyFax installed on your Series 5
  9. you must remove this BEFORE installing the Message Suite.

  13. The Message Suite installation will also add new items to the Series 5
  14. Control Panel (Internet, Modems). You must change settings in the
  15. Control Panel and the Email program before you can use the Message Suite
  16. programs. See the Message Suite User guide for more details.

  19. If you have a previous version of Message Suite...
  20. ==================================================
  21. It is best to install the new release without uninstalling the previous
  22. version so that your settings (e.g. email messages, setup and service
  23. provider information) are preserved. These settings will be removed if
  24. you remove your existing version before upgrading.
  25.  
  26. Note that it is recommended that you back up your Series 5 before
  27. installing additional software or making changes to important settings.

  30. Installing Message Suite using a Win 95/NT PC
  31. =============================================
  32. You must have PsiWin v2.X installed on your PC.
  33.  
  34. Message Suite, PsiWin 2.1 (and above), and other Psion programs now
  35. include "EPOC Install" which you can use from your PC to install
  36. programs to your Series 5. 
  37.  
  38. To check if you already have EPOC Install, right click on the "My Psion"
  39. icon on the desktop and note if the "Install New Program" option exists.
  40. If it does not, you should first run SETUP.EXE to install the "EPOC
  41. install" program. 
  42.  
  43. You can now use the "Install New Program" option or double-click on a
  44. .SIS file in Windows Explorer to install Message Suite, the service
  45. provider templates or other programs on your Series 5. 
  46.  
  47. The first time you install a program or file using EPOC install, 
  48. an Add/remove icon is added to the Series 5 Control panel.

  53. Installing Message Suite using other computers
  54. ==============================================

  56. You must have software installed on your computer to copy files to your 
  57. Series 5, and a suitable cable to connect your computer to the Series 5.
  58.  
  59. - If you have a Windows 3.xx PC, you can use PsiWin 1.xx.
  60.  
  61. - If you have a Macintosh computer, you can use PsiMac or Psion MacConnect.
  62.  
  63. If you have not installed software to your Series 5 before
  64. ----------------------------------------------------------
  65. To install the Add/remove icon to your Series 5's Control panel:
  66.  
  67. 1. Connect the Series 5 and copy the file instexe.exe to the Series 5.
  68. It is best to copy the file to the "\" (root) folder. Then, locate the
  69. file in the System screen, select it and press Enter to run the file. 
  70.  
  71. 2. After a few moments, the file will disappear from view.
  72.  
  73. MacConnect users only:
  74. ----------------------
  75. You can install the Message Suite from the .SIS file using MacConnect's 
  76. install feature.
  77.  
  78. Select PsiTools from the Psion menu, press the Install button, and
  79. navigate to the folder in which you have saved Msgsuite.sis. Select this
  80. file and click Open. Follow the on screen instructions to install the
  81. Message Suite programs on your Series 5.
  82.  
  83. All other users:
  84. ----------------
  85. 1. Transfer the Msgsuite.sis file to your Series 5. If the file is on your PC, 
  86. you should do this using PsiWin 2.x
  87.  
  88. 2. Select the Msgsuite.sis file in the System screen then tap on it
  89. again. The installation process will begin. Follow the instructions on
  90. screen, making sure that you use the same disk for each Message Suite
  91. component.

  93. Note: the Msgsuite.sis file will be deleted once the Message Suite has
  94. been installed. To prevent this, open the 'Add/Remove' section of the
  95. Control panel on your Series 5 and tap on 'Prefs', then remove the tick
  96. from the 'Delete .SIS installation file?' box. Note that removing the
  97. tick from this option means that you will need approximately double the
  98. normal recommended amount of disk space free in order to keep both the
  99. installed version of the software and the installation file on your
  100. machine.

  103. Using the Remote Link
  104. =====================
  105. You will need to use the Remote link on your Series 5 in order to
  106. install programs using EPOC Install. Make sure the link is set to
  107. 'Cable', and that the Series 5 is connected to your PC.
  108.  
  109. The Message Suite programs require the Remote link to be 'Off'. If the
  110. link is in use (e.g. set to 'Cable'), the link will be automatically set
  111. to 'Off' when you connect to the Internet.

  113. Make sure that you switch the link on again when you need to connect to
  114. your PC.

  117. What to do if you have EasyFax installed
  118. ========================================

  120. If you have previously installed EasyFax then you should remove the 
  121. following files in order to ensure correct behaviour when sending and 
  122. receiving faxes:

  137. Also, to free disk space, remove all old fax files. These will generally 
  138. be in the folder "\Fax\" but could be stored elsewhere. They will always 
  139. have the form "name.fax".

  141. Note, deleted faxes will be lost, so remember to print out any faxes 
  142. which  you would like to keep a copy of.

  148. You can use many standard modems or set up a new entry for your modem. 
  149. Message Suite includes pre-defined entries for:
  150.  
  151.       - Hayes compatible modem (use this for any non-listed modem)
  152.       - Psion Travel Modem
  153.       - Psion Dacom Modem (e.g. Meteor, Surfer)
  154.       - US Robotics Sportster
  155.       - Direct cable connection (e.g. for a cable connection to NT RAS)
  156.  
  157. Note that for desktop modems, you need to use a null modem adaptor/cable
  158. and your Docking cable.

  160. Templates for popular Internet service providers are available. You
  161. should check these files and use the template for your provider if
