  7.                            SIO Version 2 Beta, READ.ME

  9.      This is a beta test release of SIO version 2.  Beta release means (to
  10.      me) that this is a work in progress.  There is code yet to be added
  11.      and some code already added has not been tested.

  13.      The purpose of this software release is to find design and coding
  14.      problems before an actual release occurs.  As stated above, this is a
  15.      work in progress.  This means bugs may not be corrected until the
  16.      appropriate portion of the code is revisited.  In other words, some
  17.      time may pass before a reported bug is examined and or corrected.

  19.      If you are not technically inclined, you should probably wait for an
  20.      actual (non beta) release of these drivers.  No user support will be
  21.      provided for beta test versions of the drivers.

  23.      PLEASE SEND ALL comments to sio2k@gwinn.com or post comments in
  24.      section 4 of OS2BVEN on CompuServe (the SIO support forum).  Please do
  25.      not get upset if I do not respond.  Your help in testing the beta is
  26.      appreciated, but messages simply saying I received a message takes a
  27.      lot of time when one is receiving hundreds of messages a day.

  29.      Version 2 of SIO has major design and philosophical changes differing
  30.      from any previous OS/2 serial drivers.  SEE DESIGN.TXT

  32.      There is no install program.  You will have to install/remove the
  33.      drivers manually.  See INSTALL.TXT

  35.      Please do not send messages asking for release dates, pricing, etc.  I
  36.      have made few decisions about these things, and answering all the
  37.      messages cuts into my development time.

  39.      Registered SIO version 1 users, with serial numbers whose last five
  40.      digits are 25400 or above, will receive free upgrades to SIO version
  41.      2.

  43.      As I mentioned above, the price of SIO version 2 is not yet set, but
  44.      the price will be MORE than the minimum $25.00 price of the version 1
  45.      drivers.  Therefore, one can save money by registering, or re-
  46.      registering SIO Version 1 now, and using the free upgrade to obtain a
  47.      registered SIO Version 2.  Due to hackers of the SIO version 1 code,
  48.      my cash flow from version 1 is very little.  You can help by pre-
  49.      registering version 2.  You can register version 1 (amounting to a
  50.      pre-registering of version 2) at www.gwinn.com.  See ORDER.TXT in the
  51.      SIO version 1 distribution zip for information on ways to register
  52.      other than www.gwinn.com.  POSTAL MONEY ORDERS work very well for
  53.      payment by foreign purchasers.
