What's New in Version 1.1 - Released August 16, 1996 ----------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -Registered User's Name (in the Program Information screen) had extraneous characters following it. -Intermittent problem with the Zip routine not releasing "stdin". -Details View always came up checked regardless of what other view was also checked. -The Byte counts in the directories Window titlebar and the upper Status bar sometimes had an extra character appended to the count. -The 'Bytes Free' count in the directories Window titlebar was not updated when contents were moved to or from other directories on the same drive. -User-Defined programs were not able to run Rexx CMD files as stated in documentation. Improvements -Replaced listbox in Viewer's setup window with a drop-down combination-box for a more intuitive look. -For Info-Zip's Zip and Unzip support, the user has a choice of either entering a fully qualified Path/Name or adding the program's directory to the path statement in the Config.Sys file. -Added a Destination 'Bytes Free' count to the lower status bar. -Added a 'Refresh Display' option to update directories if other running programs have changed directory contents. -Added ability to User-Defined programs to take selected filename as a parameter -Added a built-in Zip Viewer for peering inside of zip files. It allows all other viewers (graphics viewers, wav players) configured in File Freedom to be used inside a zip file. It also allows the user to look inside a zip file within a zip file, and again, all configured viewers can be used to examine files in this second layer. -General improvements to online Help to make it more comprehensive and comprehensible. What's New in Version 1.2 - Released September 15, 1996 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -a double display in the files window could occur if F8 (swap Source and Destination) was pressed twice or more times rapidly. Improvements -Added a Pushbutton and permanent Hot-Key for PMSeek. This is an OS/2 utility which allows searchs for text or duplicate files. -Added capability to create destination directories 'on the fly' for copy and move operations. -Added a Pushbutton for 'Refresh Display'. -Added support for more User-defined programs (now four) which can be run from within File Freedom. Also improved support for these programs ie. a working directory can now be specified. Also Windows and Dos programs will start in a windowed session. -Some minor improvements to the Settings Notebook within File Freedom. -More improvements to online Help. -The main reason for this update is to announce Ordering and Registration now available through BMT Micro and to include BMT Micro order form. What's New in Version 1.3 - Released October 19, 1996 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -User-Defined programs were unable to accept filenames passed to them as parameters due to added support for OS/2 filenames with embedded spaces. -Same problem with User-Defined Editor. Both Dos and Windows programs will now accept valid filenames as parameters. -When displaying empty directories, status bar information did not give a valid '0' byte count and other minor aesthetic status bar errors. -When the the start-up default source drive was given in the form of "X:\" it would not display the root drive but would give a blank display. -When moving files and creating a destination directory on-the-fly, the first file moved would not be deleted from the source directory. Improvements -Added support for deleting complete sub-directory structures including those containing files and/or other directories. -Added support for zipping complete sub-directory structures or complete drives. -Improved color and font handling on titlebars and areas behind pushbuttons (for Drag and Drop colors and fonts). -Added separate Help reference for Settings Notebook and other Help improvements. -Changed "Quit" hot-key combination to "ALT-F4" in keeping with CUA guidelines. -Added ability to hide the ToolBar. -Added compatibility for 4OS2 and other alternative shells. -Added ability for User-Defined programs to continue running after File Freedom has been terminated. What's New in Version 1.4 - Released November 24, 1996 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -Fixed bug in support for OS/2 System Menu keys - all system menu keys now function properly (Alt-Spacebar, Alt-F4 etc.) -Fixed bug in Install program which prevented installation from root directories. Improvements -In the "Rename" dialogue, the old file name now appears in the Entry field so that it can be edited. -The configured Editor will now continue to run if File Freedom is closed. -You can now create a Desktop Object from a program file by simply pressing Control-F7. -There is a new Unzipping option (Shift-F3) which will create a new directory on-the-fly (in the default destination) with the same name as the zip file and unzip the files into the new directory. -The cursor will now remember it's position in the file display during screen updates for most operations (Sorting, renaming, unmarking, copying etc.). What's New in Version 1.4a - Released December 1, 1996 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -Release 1.4 had inadvertently substituted a source file for the install program. This was corrected. What's New in Version 1.5 - Released January 23, 1997 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -A bug in the internal zip viewer prevented files that had names with embedded spaces, from being extracted singly or viewed. Improvements -Drag and Drop file management has been added. It is available without setup and co-exists with the original file management method. -A 'Delete File' option has been added to the internal Zip Viewer. -Files with an 'exe' extension can now be started from the Files Window with a double-click or by pressing the Enter key when the cursor is over top. What's New in Version 1.5a - Released February 9, 1997 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -A bug that caused the current drive setting to be lost after certain drag & drop operations. -A bug that prevented running programs from within a zip file. What's New in Version 1.6 - Released April 18, 1997 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected -The Settings Notebook page would disappear when Escape was pressed but the notebook would remain with an empty page. -problems in internal Zip Viewer that prevented file extraction and deletion of files with embedded spaces in their file names. -Renaming a sub-directory in a folder that was displayed as open in the tree view window would cause a program abort. Improvements -Added a File list to the Zip Files window. Now the user can choose a previously created zip to add files to without retyping the name. -External viewers no longer have to be in a directory in the Path= statement only. They can now be located in the File Freedom home directory as well. -EPM (the Enhanced Editor) may now be used in Browse (read only) mode when specifying it as a viewer, by entering "<epm>" as the viewer name. See help for more info. This is now the default viewer. -The Desktop would become blocked when copying or moving files to slow peripherals (floppy drives etc.). This is now done in a separate thread that uses semaphores to block other procedures that may be dependant on these operations being complete. This has the effect of allowing multitasking while waiting on slow operations. -Many 'Fit and Finish' items that should improve all around ease of use, mainly concerned with the way file names are returned to and screens updated after operations that can change a directory's content. What's New in Version 1.6a - Released April 27, 1997 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - Error codes were suppressed during Copy and Move operations - Unzip would cause File Freedom to abort after unzipping What's New in Version 1.7 - Released August 1, 1997 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - Program would not operate after being closed from a minimized icon and system was rebooted. Improvements - Copying of complete directory trees now as simple as copying files. - Calculate the size of all files within selected directory tree structures (in bytes) with Control-S. - File attributes are now displayed beside the file names when changing file attributes. - In the Files window, sub-directory names are now coloured blue to distinguish them from file names. - Sort options are now saved session to session. - Auto-Scrolling in Files window while marking files with mouse. - Execute .bat and .cmd (as well as .exe) files by double-clicking on them or pressing the Enter key. What's New in Version 1.71 - Released September 1, 1997 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - The Copy Tree operation would not always complete the job if the source path was longer than the destination path. - The Copy Tree operation would try to self-replicate the source directory in the destination directories infinitely if the destination directory was a decendant of the source. - When executing '.bat' or '.cmd' files or executables, the start-up directory was not set to the directory containing the file. This caused problems with the program finding it's resources such as help files etc. - Various bugs in the Zip and Unzip functions that prevented Info-Zip from handling directory and file names with embedded spaces in them under certain conditions. Improvements - Changed the default button in the 'Copy Tree' dialogue box to "OK". - Added some functionality to the Drag/Drop routines. Files can now be dropped on sub-directories within the Files Window as well as anywhere else in the Files Window which will produce the source directory as destination. - Drag and Drop is now possible between multiple instances of File Freedom (first check the "Create new window" setting under "Object Open behaviour" in the "Window" settings page under the File Freedom object's "Properties" or "Settings". What's New in Version 1.8 - Released October 21, 1997 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - No bugs identified. Improvements - New interface for Install program. - Error handling improved for SYS 0039 (Drive Not Ready). File Freedom will now abort operation and continue if choice is "Return Error code to Program". - Small modification to "Viewers" page in Settings Notebook that makes "Accept" key a more obvious requirement to lock in changes. - Small change to "Update.cmd" to allow user to bail out and make changes. - Program names for the four User-defined Programs can now be set in the "Users" page of the Settings Notebook. These names will show up in the menu under "Options". - A way to hop around your most frequently used directories has been implemented through the use of Directory Bookmarks. A new button has been added to the row of Drive buttons (it has an asterisk on it) which displays a list of ten possible Directory paths which can be selected and loaded into the Files window with a mouse double-click or Enter key. What's New in Version 1.9 - Released Jan. 12, 1998 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - If the destination directory was deleted, swapping the source and destination and subsequently trying to set the source (now missing) as destination, would crash the program. - The Default Source Path setting in the Settings Notebook was mistakenly limited to 32 characters. It now will accept a full 256 character path name. - In the settings notebook, on the 'Viewers' page, resetting Viewer Defaults could cause the program to crash under some circumstances. - The internal Zip Viewer would crash the program on exit, if a drive button was pressed while the Zip Viewer was still running. Improvements - Added dynamic Volume Label display for the Drive button bar. Place the mouse over the drive button to see the volume label displayed on the status bar. - Added a Volume Labelling function to compliment the above. All local drives can have volume labels added or modified easily. - If a second instance of File Freedom is opened, it will now remember its last position and size. - The names of Viewers on the 'Viewers' page in the settings notebook can now have pathnames of up to 50 characters. This will remove the neccessity of having the viewers located in a directory found in the PATH statement or in the File Freedom home directory. - The drive table, as well as the files display, is now refreshed when the manual 'Refresh' button (or Shift-F12) is pressed. This is mainly useful for network users who want to verify that all drives are still online. - There is a new page in the settings notebook for setting up timers to allow automatic refreshing of the Directories and Files displays as well as automatic refreshing of the Drive table. The intervals can be set from 1 second to 600 seconds (ten minutes) in one second intervals. This enables the Drive button bar and the Files list and Directory content to be updated automatically. This is mainly useful for network users who want to be sure that the resources displayed are current. What's New in Version 1.9a - Released Jan. 25, 1998 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - The new 50 character limit for viewer path/names did not work. It was allowing 50 characters to be entered, but was only saving 11. This was the only change for v1.9a What's New in Version 1.9b - Released Mar. 15, 1998 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - Set "Source as Destination" wouldn't work on a floppy if there were no files already on the floppy. - The "Directory Tree Size" for a directory that had less than 100 bytes would drop a digit when reporting. - The Destination path was changing to an incomplete path after cancelling some Drag and Drop operations. - The internal Zip Viewer could not deal with Destination directory names that had embedded spaces. It would create directories with truncated names and unzip files to these newly created directories. - When changing directory names, if the directory being renamed also happened to be the Destination directory, the Destination path was not updated to reflect this change. What's New in Version 2.0 - Released June 14, 1998 -------------------------------------------------------- Bugs Corrected - Some strings for User Defined Programs were not saved properly in some odd circumstances. - Finally resolved that mysterious "shrinking window" problem. - The Refresh page in the Settings notebook had a corrupted format in some cases. - The internal Zip viewer couldn't unzip to the root directory of the home drive. - If the setting for the Default Source path in the Settings Notebook was filled in, but the Default Destination path was left blank, the path would be corrupted when the Source and Destination were swapped. - If the Destination directory was deleted, the destination would be obsolete. Now, the parent directory is substituted. Improvements - Icons now are presented in 40 x 40 format in screen resolutions above 800 x 600. - Sort options have been expanded to include Reverse Sort for all types. - A Pop-Up Menu is now available by clicking the second mouse button. - Greatly improved functionality in the Directory Tree view window. These operations are now available from this window. 1) Delete and Copy folders 2) Rename Folders 3) Tree Size Also the display in this window has been improved. Folders now open if the window is refreshed and open folders are more centered in the window. This is also true for bookmarks and when swapping between source and destination. - When copying files to a file that already exists, if the "Replace Existing Files" checkbox has not been marked, a small window will open to query if you wish to overwrite. - It is now possible to configure a different search tool than PMSeek. See the "Search" page in the settings notebook. - Tab sizes in the settings notebook have been increased to facilitate larger fonts and higher resolutions. - An "Extract to Path" option has been added to the internal Zip viewer. You can now extract files to the destination stripped of their archived path, or extract to the archived path which will be created in the destination if it doesn't exist. - Improved positioning of the Bookmark window. - When a directory is created, the Files window will be scrolled to the new entry. - User-defined programs that have not been defined, now show up as disabled in the menu. - The date format used in the detailed view of the files list, now conforms to the Country setting. - Four more User-Defined program links have been added. - User-Defined programs selected via hot-keys now open in the foreground instead of the background. - A new Append feature has been added. This allows selected files to be concatenated to an existing (or new) file. This is for use with text files. A separator is also written to the file that identifies the original file name and serves as an easy-to-find marker. Note: Some key assignments have been changed. The Create Desktop Object hot-key has been changed from Control-F7 to Control-F11. Also the hot-keys for User-Defined programs have all been changed.
