  175.         Important - please read the following terms and conditions.

  177.         Downloading the Service Fixes included in FixPak XRGM005 for Warp 4
  178.         indicates your acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
  179.  
  180.         1. You must be, and agree that you are, a current licensee of OS/2
  181.            Warp 4.
  182.         2. You may make copies of the OS/2 Service Fixes equal to the
  183.            number of licensed copies of OS/2 Warp 4 you possess.
  184.         3. You may only use the OS/2 Warp 4 Service Fixes included with
  185.            FixPak XRGM005 for maintenance purposes.
  186.         4. All other terms and conditions of your OS/2 Warp 4 license
  187.            agreements apply to the Service Fixes; however, this does not
  188.            extend any warranty and/or services, including but not limited
  189.            to the "Initial Installation" period, outlined in such
  190.            agreements.

  235.         2.0.1 NO FILES TO SERVICE
  236.  
  237.         If you see a "No files to service" message while applying this
  238.         FixPak, there is probably a mismatch between the data in
  239.         \OS2\INSTALL\SYSLEVEL.OS2 and what is supported by this FixPak.
  240.  
  241.         Compare the data for the OS/2 Base Operating System from the
  242.         SYSLEVEL command output with the same values listed at the end of
  243.         this document in the "FixPak Corrective Service levels and disk
  244.         layouts" section. They must be identical.
  245.  
  246.         If these values are correct, check for the following files on any
  247.         OS/2 boot drive in the \OS2\INSTALL directory.
  248.  
  249.            LOGF0000.OS2
  250.            LOGSTART.OS2
  251.            LOGARCH.OS2
  252.  
  253.  
  254.         Check for the following files in your MMOS2\INSTALL directory.
  255.  
  256.            LOGF0000.MPM
  257.            LOGSTART.MPM
  258.            LOGARCH.MPM

  261.         Also check for the following file:

  264.

  266.         If these files exist, rename them and try the FixPak installation
  267.         again.  Delete the renamed files after the FixPak has been applied.

  270.         2.0.2 PREVIOUS INSTALLATION INTERRUPTED
  271.  
  272.         If you get a message that the previous installation of a FixPak was
  273.         interrupted (whether true or not), check for the following files
  274.         and directory on all drives:

  303.         2.0.3 UNABLE TO OPEN ARCHIVE DIRECTORY
  304.  
  305.         If you get a message about problems with the Archive directory (for
  306.         example, cannot find or unable to open), then the most probable
  307.         cause is that you applied a previous FixPak and have since deleted
  308.         the FixPak ARCHIVE or BACKUP directory.
  309.  
  310.         To recover from this, follow the "No files to service" and
  311.         "Previous installation interrupted" steps listed above.
  312.  
  313.  
  314.         2.0.4 RC 932 DOING CID INSTALL OF WARP 4
  315.  
  316.         If you get a RC (Return Code) 932 while doing a CID install of Warp
  317.         4 and you are using RSPINST.EXE from FixPak 3 or later, you will
  318.         need to do the following.
  319.  
  320.         1. Create a temporary work directory somewhere on your harddrive.
  321.  
  322.               assume it's c:\tempwork
  323.  
  324.  
  325.         2. Locate the section called "FixPak Corrective Service levels and
  326.            disk layouts".
  327.         3. Locate CHKDSK.SYS, CHKDSK32.DLL, CHKDSK32.EXE  and UHPFS.DLL and
  328.            record what disks they are found on.
  329.  
  330.            Note: For FixPak 3, they are on disks 12, 8, 12 and 9
  331.            respectively. This will change for later FixPaks.
  332.  
  333.         4. Place FixPak disk 12 in A: and enter
  334.  
  335.               unpack a:\fix\os2.1\chkdsk.sy_ c:\tempwork
  336.  
  337.  
  338.         5. Place FixPak disk  8 in A: and enter
  339.  
  340.

  350.         6. Place FixPak disk 12 in A: and enter

  352.               unpack a:\fix\os2.1\chkdsk32.ex_ c:\tempwork

  355.         7. Place FixPak disk  9 in A: and enter
  356.  
  357.               unpack a:\fix\os2.1\uhpfs.dl_ c:\tempwork

  360.         8. Make backup copies of CHKDSK.SYS, CHKDSK32.DLL and UHPFS.DLL
  361.            from the DISK_3 directory of your CID tree.
  362.         9. Copy CHKDSK.SYS from c:\tempwork to the DISK_3 directory of your
  363.            CID tree
  364.         10.Copy CHKDSK32.DLL from c:\tempwork to the DISK_3 directory of
  365.            your CID tree
  366.         11.Copy UHPFS.DLL from c:\tempwork to the DISK_3 directory of your
  367.            CID tree
  368.         12.Make a backup copy of the BUNDLE file on DISK_0
  369.         13.Copy DISK_0\BUNDLE c:\tempwork
  370.         14.Copy PACK2.EXE to c:\tempwork. If you don't have this file you
  371.            can get it using your Web browser from
  372.  
  373.               ftp://ps.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/v4warp
  374.  
  375.  
  376.         15.PACK2 CHKDSK32.EXE bundle /H:\OS2\CHKDSK32.EXE /A
  377.  
  378.            Note: This adds CHKDSK32.EXE to the bundle file.  Enter "unpack
  379.            bundle /show" to verify it's really there.
  380.  
  381.         16.Copy the updated BUNDLE back to the DISK_0 directory
  382.         17.Delete the c:\tempwork directory and files.
  383.         18.Do the CID install
  384.  
  385.

  388.         2.0.5 WINDOWS PRINTER DRIVERS LEAVE A ZOMBIE THREAD RUNNING
  389.  
  390.         A problem occurs with some Windows printer drivers where a zombie
  391.         thread is left running  after the program that loaded it is exited.
  392.  
  393.         This does not occur when the program is run from a Seamless
  394.         instance of PROGMAN or from a Full Screen session because when
  395.         these are exited the whole WINOS2 Subsystem is exited.

  405.         This problem has been reported for the Adobe and Hewlett Packard
  406.         Windows printer drivers. To correct this problem for people running
  407.         with these drivers ONLY who have experienced symptoms such as:
  408.  
  409.         Ä  exiting a program running seamlessly after printing or
  410.         Ä  setting up a printer and seeing the icon not being unhatched
  411.            and/or
  412.         Ä  not being able to start another copy of the program
  413.  
  414.         Add the following line in OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM.INI in the *boot*
  415.         section:
  416.  
  417.         Ä  backgroundtasks=run_enum.exe,hpfbkg02.exe
  418.  
  419.         then restart WINOS2.
  420.  
  421.         Note: There may be other drivers that have the same problem.  If
  422.         you experiences a similar problem with other drivers, please report
  423.         it so the correct SYSTEM.INI entry can be determined.
  424.

  426.  
  427.         2.0.6 MULTIMEDIA NO LONGER SELECTABLE
  428.  
  429.         IBM Multimedia Presentation Manager/2 (MPM) is now fully integrated
  430.         into the base OS/2. As part of this change, the
  431.         \MMOS2\INSTALL\SYSLEVEL.MPM file has been deleted. This means you
  432.         will no longer see it as a selectable entry in the Serviceable
  433.         Products window when using the A:SERVICE method of installation.
  434.  
  435.  
  436.         2.0.7 IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED FIXPAK XRGM000
  437.  
  438.         If you have installed Warp 4 FixPak XRGM000, three files were
  439.         updated that are not in FixPak XRGM002 and need to be backed out to
  440.         the Warp 4 GA level.  They are:
  441.  
  442.             12-13-96  10:35a     10120           0  \MMOS2\MPPM.EXE
  443.             12-05-96   5:12p     34645           0  \OS2\BOOT\KBDBASE.SYS
  444.             12-05-96   5:39p     53161           0  \OS2\MDOS\VKBD.SYS
  445.  
  446.  
  447.         The uplevel MPPM.EXE causes the Media Player to fail.
  448.  
  449.         The uplevel KBDBASE.SYS results in a local TELNET session not
  450.         having a keyboard unless the TELNET session on the target system
  451.         has the focus.
  452.  
  453.         The uplevel VKBD.SYS causes NumLock to come without pressing the
  454.         NumLock key.

  463.         To fix these problems you can either back out the entire FixPak
  464.         (VIEW the README.INF file on the first FixPak disk for
  465.         instructions) or back out just these three files as follows:
  466.  
  467.         1. Rename x:\MMOS2\MPPM.EXE to MPPM.000
  468.         2. Rename x:\OS2\BOOT\KBDBASE.SYS to KBDBASE.000
  469.         3. Rename x:\OS2\MDOS\VKBD.SYS to VKBD.000
  470.         4. Change to your FixPak Archive directory.
  471.         5. Use the UNPACK command to restore the saved files to your Warp 4
  472.            boot drive
  473.  
  474.             UNPACK MPPM.EX_    x:\MMOS2
  475.             UNPACK KBDBASE.SY_ x:\OS2\BOOT
  476.             UNPACK VKBD.SY_    x:\OS2\MDOS
  477.

  479.         6. Shutdown and reboot your system.
  480.  
  481.         Note: x: is your Warp 4 boot drive.

  485.         2.0.8 IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED CONTROLLED FIXPAK XRGM001
  486.  
  487.         If you have installed the controlled version of Warp 4 FixPak
  488.         XRGM001, one file was updated that is not in the public FixPak
  489.         XRGM002 and needs to be backed out to the Warp 4 GA level.  It is:
  490.  
  491.             12-05-96   5:39p     53161           0  \OS2\MDOS\VKBD.SYS
  492.  
  493.  
  494.         The uplevel VKBD.SYS causes NumLock to come without pressing the

  521.         2.0.9 APAR JR09494 (TRAP EXITING WINOS2 WITH MWAVE AUDIO)
  522.  
  523.         The fix for APAR JR09434 (trap exiting winos2 with MWAVE audio)
  524.         requires a new MWAVEVDD.SYS dated 11/96 or later.  This file is
  525.         available from the IBM PC Company web site at http
  526.         ://www.pc.ibm.com.
  527.

  529.         2.0.10 MMPARTS.DLL/USER.EXE POPUP DURING INSTALL
  530.  
  531.         If you get a popup about MMPARTS.DLL or USER.EXE during install,
  532.         reply "Yes" to replace it.

  536.         2.0.11 CSF0212 ARCHIVE PATH IS SHARED BETWEEN MISMATCHED
  537.  
  538.         The Archive path you specified (or was previously specified)
  539.         contains files from a different release of OS/2. You need to
  540.         specify a different Archive path.
  541.  
  542.  
  543.         2.0.12 CSF0214 ERROR OPENING OR CREATING ARCHIVE FILE.
  544.  
  545.         Also CSF0215, CSF0216, CSF0217 and CSF0249.
  546.  
  547.         Typically this means the FixPak Archive directory has been deleted
  548.         but the files that point to it still exist. You need to delete the
  549.         LOGF000.OS2 and LOGSTART.OS2 files from your OS2/INSTALL directory.
  550.         LOGSTART.OS2 has the R/O attribute set and it needs to be reset
  551.         before the file can be deleted.
  552.  
  553.  
  554.         2.0.13 CSF0208 NO PRODUCTS WERE FOUND
  555.  
  556.         This means no SYSLEVEL files was found that had a CSD Level,
  557.         COMPID, Version and Type that matched any of the SYSLEVEL files
  558.         supported by this FixPak. Run the SYSLEVEL command and record the
  559.         output for SYSLEVEL.OS2 in the OS2/INSTALL directory on your boot
  560.         drive. Compare this data with the data contained in the README.1ST
  561.         file on FixPak disk 1.
  562.  
  563.         To recover from this, rename the existing SYSLEVEL.OS2 file to
  564.         SYSL.OS2 and copy SYSLEVEL.OS2 from your Warp 4 installation DISK
  565.         1.

  581.         If you install a new printer by clicking MB2 on the Printer icon in
  582.         the templates folder then clicking on Install, the printer object
  583.         will now be created in the Printer folder, not on the Desktop.

  586.         2.0.15 CONFIGURATION INSTALLATION DISTRIBUTION ( CID )
  587.  
  588.         Read the README.CID on Disk # 1 for an example of how to set up a
  589.         response file to do a CID install.

  594.         Once you begin a FixPak installation, do not try to use your system
  595.         for any other purpose. Doing so may yield unexpected problems which
  596.         can cause the FixPak installation to fail.

  641.         3.0.1 SYS3170 INSTALLING LOTUS SMARTSUITE 96
  642.  
  643.         A problem was discovered when attempting to install Lotus
  644.         SmartSuite 96 with a early version of the Matrox video driver.  A
  645.         SYS3170 occurs after pressing the button to start copying the files
  646.         to the hard disk.
  647.  
  648.         The problem does not occur with the current Matrox driver available
  649.         on the Web at
  650.

  654.         A work around that does not involve downloading files from the web,
  655.         is to switch your display driver to VGA during the install and
  656.         after it has completed, restore the Matrox driver.
  657.

  729.         detection and correction algorithms, and creates a log file so
  730.         service personnel can determine what errors it found and how it
  731.         corrected them.  Finally, only the amount of physical memory in
  732.         your system limits the size of the largest drive CHKDSK can check

  753.         4.4.1 USING THE NEW CHKDSK
  754.  
  755.         The interface to CHKDSK remains CHKDSK.COM and PMCHKDSK.  No
  756.         changes occurred to the CHKDSK command line parameters or messages.
  757.  
  758.         The first time this version of CHKDSK runs on a fast formatted
  759.         drive, it will report harmless errors.  These errors go away once
  760.         CHKDSK is run with the /F option.
  761.  
  762.         Note: OS/2 Warp Install uses fast format.
  763.  
  764.         Unlike prior versions of CHKDSK, large drives ( > 8GB) may be
  765.         autochecked if sufficient memory is available.  The amount of
  766.         memory required can vary between 16MB and 48MB depending on the
  767.         size of the drive.  To enable the autochecking of large drives, the
  768.         following line must be added to your config.sys:

  770.           BASEDEV=CHKDSK.SYS

  773.         This device driver allows CHKDSK to access memory normally reserved
  774.         for the system during the boot process.  Due to this, if CHKDSK has
  775.         to use this memory:

  777.         Ä  The memory will not be available for the system to use in
  778.            completing the boot process
  779.         Ä  Errors may occur later in the boot process.
  780.  
  781.         Hence, the chkdsk.sys device driver is smart enough to recognize
  782.         when CHKDSK has used this reserved memory and will reboot the
  783.         system automatically after all HPFS drives have been checked.
  784.         Since the drives were checked before the reboot, CHKDSK will not
  785.         have to check them after the reboot and the system will boot
  786.         normally.

  788.         Note: For those wishing to run unattended:  In order to prevent the
  789.         system from pausing between autocheck and the reboot, we recommend
  790.         that the statement PAUSEONERROR=NO be in the CONFIG.SYS.
  791.  
  792.         When you don't have enough physical (real) memory to autocheck
  793.         large drives, you must use virtual memory from SWAPPER.DAT.  The
  794.         technique is to check the large drives between the time OS/2 starts
  795.         and PM begins.  To start OS/2, the swap file and device drivers
  796.         must reside on an unaffected drive.  The drives to be checked must
  797.         not appear in the autocheck list in the IFS statement for HPFS (or
  798.         HPFS386).

  800.         This technique involves the following steps:

  802.         1. Remove the drive letter of the affected drive(s) from the
  803.            autocheck list in the IFS statement for HPFS (or HPFS386).

  823.         Example: The computer boots from drive C (moderate HPFS or FAT
  824.         sized drive).  Drive D (large HPFS) requires more RAM to check than
  825.         installed in the machine.

  896.         the bootable partition.  Should this file become too large then it
  897.         may be erased or pruned (reduced in size). The system will
  898.         automatically re-create it if it does not exist.

  900.         The TRAPLOG command and SUPPRESSPOPUPS CONFIG.SYS statement may be
  901.         used to control trap screen behavior (see below).

  1333.         6.0 INSTALLATION PROCESS

  1337.         6.1 BEFORE INSTALLATION
  1338.  
  1339.         Before installing any FixPak, run CHKDSK /F against all drives on
  1340.         your system to correct any file system errors that might be
  1341.         present. You cannot do this while OS/2 is active. You must shut
  1342.         down and run CHKDSK by one of the following methods:
  1343.  
  1344.         Ä  Boot from your Installation, DISK 1 and DISK 2 diskettes.  If
  1345.            your file system is HPFS, then put the diskette with CHKDSK and
  1346.            UHPFS.DLL on it in your A: drive before issuing the CHKDSK
  1347.            command.
  1348.         Ä  Boot from the Utilities disk you created via the "Create Utility
  1349.            Diskettes" icon in the System Setup folder.
  1350.         Ä  Boot from a different OS/2 partition.
  1351.  
  1352.         Reboot your system then shutdown all running applications.
  1353.  
  1354.  
  1355.         6.2 METHOD 1: INSTALL FROM BOOTED OS/2 PARTITION.
  1356.  
  1357.         This method allows you to select the products (partitions) to be
  1358.         serviced.
  1359.  
  1360.         This is the method you should use if you have more than one OS/2
  1361.         partition and want to control which one is serviced.
  1362.  
  1363.         Note: You can use a diskette drive other than A: with this method.
  1364.         If your 3.5" diskette drive is B:, use B: where A: is mentioned in
  1365.         the following steps.  (this method only).
  1366.  
  1367.         1. Insert CSF DISK Diskette 1 in drive A.
  1368.         2. Open an OS/2 window or full-screen session.
  1369.         3. Type A:\SERVICE and press the Enter key.
  1370.  
  1371.            Note: You could also use the "Drives" object for A: and double
  1372.            click on the "SERVICE.EXE" Icon to start the install.
  1373.         4. Follow the displayed instructions. When prompted to insert
  1374.            Corrective Service Diskette 1 (not CSF DISK Diskette 1), place
  1375.            FixPak XRGM005 Corrective Service Diskette 1 in drive A. Repeat
  1376.            for the rest of the FixPak disks when requested to do so.
  1377.  
  1378.            Note: It can take a considerable length of time for the
  1379.            Corrective Service Facility to scan your hard disk for
  1380.            serviceable files. In some cases, it has taken as long as 40
  1381.            minutes. Please be patient and allow this process to complete.
  1382.         5. If this is the first OS/2 Warp FixPak you have applied to this
  1383.            system, then enter the path to the ARCHIVE directory where a
  1384.  
  1385.

  1391.            copy of replaced files will be stored (for example, D:\ARCHIVE).
  1392.  
  1393.            Note: This ARCHIVE directory is not related to the ARCHIVES
  1394.            directory built into OS/2 Warp 3.0. Please specify a different
  1395.            path.  You must specify a different ARCHIVE directory for each
  1396.            product to be serviced.
  1397.  
  1398.            If this is not the first OS/2 Warp FixPak, then enter the path
  1399.            to the BACKUP directory where a copy of replaced files will be
  1400.            stored (for example, D:\BACKUP).
  1401.  
  1402.            Note: You must specify a different BACKUP directory for each
  1403.            product to be serviced.
  1404.  
  1405.            For either case, make sure there is sufficient space available
  1406.            on the drive you specify. Even though these files are kept in
  1407.            compressed (PACK2) format, they require between 7 and 12 MB of
  1408.            disk space.
  1409.         6. Click on "OK".
  1410.         7. You will see an "Application in use" dialog box showing a list
  1411.            of locked files that cannot be serviced while the system is
  1412.            running.  You are given two choices - to Continue or Reboot.
  1413.            Select Continue.
  1414.         8. During the installation process you might see messages about
  1415.            Archiving, Updating and Deferring service.
  1416.            Ä  Archiving saves a compressed copy of the original file in the
  1417.               ARCHIVE or BACKUP path you specified.
  1418.            Ä  Updating means the original files are replaced with the new
  1419.               ones from this FixPak.
  1420.            Ä  Deferring service means the file to be updated is currently
  1421.               in use by the system and cannot be updated. The new files
  1422.               from the FixPak are placed in unpacked format in the
  1423.               \IBMCSFLK\FIX directory on the drive with the most free
  1424.               space.  They are processed by the locked file device driver
  1425.               during reboot after you shut down the system.
  1426.         9. Select NO for a redisplay of the "Product List" after the first
  1427.            part of the FixPak application process has completed if this
  1428.            message is displayed.
  1429.         10.Click Cancel and Exit to close the Corrective Service Facility
  1430.            window if necessary.
  1431.         11.Shut down and reboot your system.
  1432.  
  1433.            You will see the following during reboot of the system if you
  1434.            applied service to the OS/2 partition you were booted from.
  1435.  
  1436.            The locked file driver is loaded.
  1437.

  1454.         6.3 METHOD 2: BOOT FROM CORRECTIVE SERVICE DISK 1.
  1455.  
  1456.         This method does not prompt the user for any information. No
  1457.         interaction with the user takes place other than requests to put
  1458.         the next diskette in drive A.  All serviceable partitions on your
  1459.         system will be updated automatically. Be especially careful of
  1460.         extra SYSLEVEL.OS2 or SYSLEVEL.MPM files when using this method
  1461.         because they can cause CSF to apply service to directories you do
  1462.         not want serviced.
  1463.  
  1464.         1. Shut down your OS/2 system.
  1465.         2. Insert CSF DISK Diskette 1 in drive A.
  1466.         3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to boot the disk in drive A.
  1467.  
  1468.         Service will be applied to ALL partitions that contain a version of
  1469.         OS/2 that is supported by this FixPak. See the section "FixPak
  1470.         Corrective Service levels and disk layouts" for the CSD levels this
  1471.         FixPak applies to.
  1472.  
  1473.         Note: It can take a considerable length of time for the Corrective
  1474.         Service Facility to scan your hard disk for serviceable files.
  1475.         Please be patient and allow this process to complete.

  1477.         Note: You can edit the RESPONSE.FIL on CSF Disk 1 to control some
  1478.         of the actions taken by FSERVICE.EXE while applying a FixPak. Use
  1479.         the VIEW command to look at the file README.INF on the first CSF
  1480.         disk for more information on this.

  2147.         The FixPak installation process requires free space on the
  2148.         following drives:

  2160.         9.0.1 RECOVERING FIXPAK ARCHIVE AND BACKUP SPACE
  2161.  
  2162.         Warning: Make sure you read and understand the following before
  2163.         removing the Archive and Backup files and directories.
  2164.  
  2165.         You can recover the space used for FixPak Archive and Backup files
  2166.         as long as you understand that doing this prevents you from being
  2167.         able to backout to the previous Backup or Archive level. If it
  2168.         becomes necessary at a later time to backout a FixPak, the only way
  2169.         you can do this is to reinstall Warp.
  2170.  
  2171.         Do the following to delete the FixPak Backup and Archive files and
  2172.         remove the files used by CSF to keep track of what service has been
  2173.         applied to your system.
  2174.  
  2175.         1.  Delete every instance of the following files on your system
  2176.             (search every drive and every directory they contain).
  2177.             Ä   LOGF0000.*   (can be OS2 or MPM)
  2178.             Ä   LOGSTART.*   (can be OS2 or MPM)
  2179.             Ä   LOGARCH.*    (can be OS2 or MPM)
  2180.             Ä   CSF_*.*
  2181.             Ä   FIXSTART
  2182.         2.  Delete the files in the FixPak Archive and Backup directories on
  2183.             your harddisk.
  2184.         3.  Remove the FixPak Archive and Backup directories with the RMDIR
  2185.             command.
