  18.    Welcome to the IBM VisualAge for Java Version 1.0 Entry Edition.
  19.  
  20.    This is an unsupported trial version of the product which contains an
  21.    Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with a Visual Composition Editor
  22.    to help programmers rapidly create graphical Java applets and applications.
  23.  
  24.    Before installing this product we recommend you read this file in its
  25.    entirety.
  26.  
  27.    To install the product:
  28.     - Unzip the oEnty100.zip file (preserving the directory structure when
  29.       unzipping) into a temporary directory.
  30.     - Invoke the 'install.exe' file from the 'install' subdirectory and follow
  31.       the instructions to install.
  32.     - Once you have completed installation read the release notes by clicking
  33.       the 'Release Notes' icon in the IBM VisualAge for Java for OS/2 folder.

  35.    There are two product versions of IBM VisualAge for Java should you wish
  36.    to purchase either of them.
  37.  
  38.     - VisualAge for Java Professional contains the same function as this trial
  39.       Edition but there is no limit on the number of classes that can be created
  40.       and online documentation is provided.

  42.     - VisualAge for Java Enterprise contains the same function as the Professional
  43.       Edition with the addition of Enterprise Access Builders which enable you to
  44.       generate JavaBeans components that establish fast connections between the
  45.       Java client and IBM CICS Transaction Servers, application servers, and data
  46.       servers.

  53. 2.0 Prerequisites
  54.  
  55.    VisualAge for Java Version 1.0 Entry Edition requires the following software
  56.    and hardware for development with the IDE:
  57.  
  58.       - OS/2 Warp Version 4.0 or higher (or OS/2 Warp Server Version 4 or
  59.         OS/2 Warp Advanced Server Version 4.0)
  60.       - An 'unzip' tool
  61.       - Pentium(R) processor or higher recommended
  62.       - SVGA (800x600) display or higher
  63.       - 32 MB RAM minimum (48 MB recommended)
  64.       - A frames-capable Web Browser to view HTML files on the Web such as
  65.         Netscape Navigator for OS/2 2.02.

  68. 3.0 Installation Problems
  69.  
  70. The following is a list of items that you should be aware of during
  71. install:
  72.  
  73.   - VisualAge for Java must be installed to a drive which supports long
  74.     file names such as an HPFS drive.
  75.  
  76.   - An Uninstall of the product will require about 5 MB on the TEMP drive.
  77.     (Or TMP drive, if TEMP is not set as an environment variable).
  78.  
  79.   - If there is an install problem resulting in an unusable system, perform
  80.     the following tasks to remove all IBM VisualAge for Java components from
  81.     your system:
  82.          - Uninstall IBM VisualAge for Java by running "uninstal.cmd" from the
  83.            INSTALL subdirectory of the directory where you installed
  84.            IBM VisualAge for Java (eg. C:\IBMVJava).
  85.          - Restore config.sys with the backup created automatically during
  86.            install.  Install creates numbered backups, of the form config.xyz,
  87.            where xyz is the first available number from 000 to 100.  The backups
  88.            will have the time and date stamp of the time of the install.
  89.            Copy the most recent backup file over config.sys.
  90.          - Delete the desktop folder for IBM VisualAge for Java.
  91.          - Delete all product files found in the directory where you
  92.            installed IBM VisualAge for Java (eg. C:\IBMVJava).
  93.  
  94.   - The "Release Notes" icon is created as a URL object.  If the default
  95.     browser on the system is not Netscape Navigator for OS/2, the Release
  96.     Notes html file will not be displayed when the icon is double-clicked.
  97.     To allow the object to display,
  98.        - Right-click on the icon and select properties.
  99.        - From the properties notebook, select the Browser page.
  100.        - Change the "Path and File name" entry to the location of
  101.          netscape.exe.
  102.        - If the checkbox labeled "Integrated browser" is checked, uncheck it.
  103.        - Close the notebook.
