If the ticker does not start, you may want to check to see if an existing BWCC.dll exists in the \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. If it does, you may want to delete this file and re-install the ticker. Some installation programs do not correctly install this file and the file's date may be in error. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Browser setup The Browser setup window allows you to to select which browser to use to display news articles or information from advertisers. The Browser name selection box allows you to identify which type of browser you are using. Note that the selections are not equivalent; a selection identifies what protocol to use to communicate with the browser. The Location field displays the full pathname for the browser. If the pathname is incorrect or the NewsTicker has trouble finding the browser when it tries to start it, press the Select button. The Select button will popup a dialog box allowing you to select identify specifically where the browser program file is. Using the Browser Setup window 1. Click on the Setup icon. The NewsTicker Setup window opens. 2. Click on the Browser Setup button. You will see the NewsTicker Browser Setup window. 3. Choose your browser from the browser pulldown list. 4. Click on the Select button. You will see a menu for selecting your browser's EXE file. 5. In the directory field, double click on the C:\. This will provide you with a list of files and directories available. 6. Look for the subdirectory containing your browser (Netscape Navigator, Mosaic, or Microsoft Internet Explorer). 7. Find the browser.exe file and choose it. 8. Click on OK. You will return to the NewsTicker Browser Setup window. 9. Click on OK. You will return to the IBM infoMarket NewsTicker Setup menu. 10. Click on OK. You will return to the NewsTicker window. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Server setup The ticker will always be loaded with the default ticker server and you should not have to change it unless your system cannot resolve the hostname. When this happens you get a generic 'invalid Ticker Host" error, and should replace the host name with the IP address. For the most current information on the server name and IP address go to "http://www.infomarket.ibm.com/ht3/nthelp#serversetup.htm". SOCKS server: The installation will attempt to get this information from the web browser installed on your machine. HTTP proxy server: This works just like the SOCKS server. For many users, this will be an alternative method of getting through firewalls. The installation will attempt to get this information from the web browser installed on your machine. If that fails, you need to know the name of your HTTP proxy server, see your system administrator . If you are using a SOCKS firewall or HTTP proxy server, be sure to use the ticker configuration button to change the server setup accordingly. If your site is particularly busy, they timeout before it can respond to a NewsTicker request. This is normal for a busy SOCKS server or HTTP proxy server and there is no particular NewsTicker fix for this. Using the Server Setup window 1. Click on the Setup icon. The NewsTicker Setup window opens. 2. Click on the Server Setup button. You will see the NewsTicker Server Setup window. 3. File in the server name and port number for your SOCKS and/or HTTP proxy servers. 4. Click on OK. You will return to the IBM infoMarket NewsTicker Setup menu. 5. Click on OK. You will return to the NewsTicker window. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Reporting feedback Please use the IBM infoMarket feedback form located at http://www.infomarket.ibm.com to give us your feedback.
