-
- This program was written to make the work of sysops much more easier.
- I also know the problem looking every morning or night who has called my
- system. I always used an ascii-viewer to browse through my looong log-
- files. Some might use a tool which shows every caller, but if you want to
- know details about a specific session you still have to browse through your
- logfiles using an ascii editor/viewer.
- This program should end this. The idea comes from Carsten Kruse
- (2:248/4002). This tool allows you to see whom you have called _and_
- who has called you. Everything on one screen. If you want to know more
- about a session you have the opportunity to view the part of the logfile
- which belongs to the session. SHOWLOG is aware of mailer calls as well
- as of online calls. SHOWLOG just uses the logfiles of your mailer- and
- BBS software. The program can be installed and set up easily in almost
- every environment, including multiline systems.
-
- Meanwhile SHOWLOG has developed to a very powerfull and usefull tool, which
- in fact has the ability to do more than it ever should. But try yourself.
- ;)

- Q: I'm using a fidomailer as my main mailer and I want ShowLog to
- parse my FX.UUCIO logfile as well.
-
- A: There is no problem. This is how it works:
-
- Let us assume you have 3 lines for your fidos-ystem (eg.: T-Mail)
- and you are using fx.uucico as well. Thats how your config should
- look like:
-
- MULTI_LINE YES
- ;
- BEGIN_COUNT 1
- MAX_TASKS 4
- ;
- MAILER TM
- ;
- MAILER_LOG e:\log\t-mail$TASK$,T-Mail-Logfile Task $TASK$
- ;
- MAILER [4] UU
- ;
- MAILER_LOG [4] e:\usenet\logs\uucio,FX.UUCIO Log.

- You may even use all features of ShowLog like statistics etc.
- running different mailers on each line.
-
- The keywords MAILER, MAILER_LGO and BBS_LOG provide the ability
- to use different definitions for every line.
- You do this by inserting the task-id between the keyword and its
- statement:
-
- <keywort> [<task_id>] <statement>
-
- Example: MAILER [2] TM (Line 2 will be using T-Mail)
-
- or: MAILER BINK
- MAILER [3] CL

- (All sessions which have the string 'Joe Sysop' in it,
- will be displayed white on blue.)
- Maximum: 20 entrys. (unreg. only 2)
-
- HIGHLIGHT Works quite the same as HIGHLIGHT_IF, with the difference
- that the specified string will be displayed in the given
- color if it is found in _any_ logfile.
- You can specify for example the string ERROR. Then any
- string 'ERROR' will be displayed in a certain/given color.
- Same syntax as HIGHLIGHT_IF.
- example: HIGHLIGHT CONNECT,YELLOW,BLACK
-
- HIGHLIGHT_LINE Here you can specify a char. Whenever this char
- appears in the specified column in any logfile extract,
- the whole line will be displayed in the given color.

- starts SHOWLOG with task X as default
- without the parameter -T, SHOWLOG interprets the
- TASK environment variable. If there isn't any, SHOWLOG
- assumes TASK=1 as default.
- -T:A Only if you are using the parameter -R:
- Reports will be created for All lines.
- -T:M Will SHOWLOG force to create a 'mixed/merged' report of
- all lines. Just try it. ;-)
-
- -D:DD-MM-YYYY The date SHOWLOG should use.
- If you don't use the parameter -D, SHOWLOG uses the date
- the internal system clock provides.
- -D:G Tells SHOWLOG to use yesterday's date.
-
- -C:<config> Tells SHOWLOG to use a different config file.
- SHOWLOG needs the full path and file name of the
- config file.
- If you don't use parameter -C:, SHOWLOG will search
- for its default config file SHOWL.CFG in the same directory
- SHOWL.EXE is located.
-
- -K:X[,Y] Shortens all logfiles, which are specified by mailer/BBS_log.
- All entries which are older than X days will be cut out.
- Y can be M or B. M: Only mailer logfiles will be shortened
- B: Only BBS logfiles will be shortened.
-
- -S:<template> Tells SHOWLOG to use a different template than the one
- specified with REPORT_TEMPLATE. {+}
- If you do not specify a path, SHOWLOG will search in its
- own directory for the file.
-
- -G:T,<file> Will create a small statistic as a text file.
- <file> must be the full path and filename of
- the file to be created.
- -G:N Will create a small statistic as a netmail.
- This will use the same settings as for reports.
- -G:E Echomail
-
- -O Startet dirket im Outbound Bildschirm
-
- -I Forces SHOWLOG to build up its indexes
-
- Examples: SHOWL.EXE -T:2 -D:12-01-1996 -R:N -C:C:\FD\SHOW\SHOWL.CFG
-
- Creates a report of all callers on line 2.
- The date is the 12nd of january in 1996.
- It will use C:\FD\SHOW\SHOWL.CFG as config file.
-
- SHOWL.EXE -R:T -D:G -K:30,B -C:C:\SHOWL\MYCONFIG.CFG
-
- Creates a report of all callers on line 1 (default).

- │▒▒ 5.1. REPORTS ▒▒▒▒▒▒│
- └──────────────────────┘
-
- SHOWLOG is able to create reports listing all incoming and outgoing calls
- of a certain day. (Parameter -R). This feature allows you to automatically
- create a netmail report every night of the day before.
- You can choose whether the report should be created as netmail, as plain
- ascii text or as an echomail packets.
-
- Netmails will have your name and aka as origination address.
- If you set REPORT_TO_SYSOP to YES then a report to the same address will
- be created.
- You can also define more recipients by using the keyword REPORT_TO. {+}
-
- If there are any errors during an automatic report please refer to the
- file SHOWL.ERR for reasons.
-
- ┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- │▒▒ 5.1.1 REPORT TEMPLATES ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒│
- └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- If you are a registered user of SHOWLOG you can specify a template
- SHOWLOG should use creating its reports by using the keyword
- REPORT_TEMPLATE.
-
- In the original distribution archive of SHOWLOG are many example templates
- included.
-
- One template consists of three parts. The descriptive part, the outbound
- part and the inbound part. Of course you can leave out one or more
- of these parts, but you have to be sure that the outbound/inbound part
- is always just one block.
- NOTE: The inbound block MUST be situated BEFORE the outbound block!
-
- right: @outbound@<text1>
- @outbound@<text2>
-
- wrong: @outbound@<text1>
- @desc@<text3>
- @outbound<text2>
-
- So a descriptive part is only be allowed before an outbound/inbound block
- or after an outbound/inbound block.
-
- eg: @desc@<text1>
- @outbound@<text2>
- @outbound@<text3>
- @desc@<text4>
-
- Following keywords are allowed: (SHOWLOG will ignore blank lines)
-
- @desc@ - descriptive text
-
- ══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

-
- @outbound@ - Outbound block (will be used for every session entry)
- @inbound@ - Inbound block (will be used for every session entry)
-
- You can insert following macros in <text>:
-
- @fsname@ First name of the sysop
- @lsname@ Surname of the sysop
- @sname@ Full name of the sysop
- @frname@ First name of the current recipient
- @lrname@ Surname of the current recipient
- @rname@ Full name of the current recipient

- @sesaka@ AKA of the session partner
- @system@ System name of the session partner
- @online@ The time the session partner was online
- @cost@ Cost of this session
-
- More keyword you may use:
-
- @IFILES@ Number of received files
- @OFILES@ Number of sent files
- @IFILES_SIZE@ Total size of received files
- @OFILES_SIZE@ Total size of sent files
- @IFILES_CPS@ cps of received files
- @OFILES_CPS@ cps of sent files
-
- @FILE_LIST@,<xpos> List of all transferred files
-
- Only use after each (inbound/outbound) block:
-
- @ierror@ Number of errors in inbound
- @oerror@ Number of errors in outbound
- @icount@ Total of inbound calls
- @ocount@ Total of outbound calls
-
- @pid@ Full version name of SHOWLOG
-
- You may also use 'formatted' keywords:
-
- @<keyword>,<length>,<l/r>@
-
- example: @location,15,r@

- │▒▒ 6. SHORTEN LOGS AND ARC. THEM ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒│
- └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- Following keywords are necessary for this feature:
-
- CUT_LOGS
- CUT_SIZE_ABOVE
- CUT_TO_SIZE
- CUT_AFTER_DAYS
- CUT_DAYS
- ARC_LOGS
- ARC_PATH
- ARC_NAME
- ARC_PACKER
-
- For a description of these keywords, please refer to chapter 3.2.
-
- ShowLog knows two 'variants' of this feature: Simply cut off old
- data and erase it or cut it off and store it as an archive.
- By using CUT_LOGS you set globaly which Logfiles should be honored
- by this feature.
-
- By using ARC_LOGS you say ShowLog what to to with the old data.
- If you set this to yes, please use ARC_PATH to specify a path
- the old logs should be stored in, use ARC_NAME to specify a name
- for this archive and use ARC_PACKER to specify your favorite
- packing software.
-
- How does ShowLog shorten the logfiles?
- ShowLog uses two methods. a) by date and b) by date.
-
- There are always two paramters for every method.
- The maximum and minimum.
- ShowLog starts to shorten if the logfile meets the maximum and
- shortens to the minimum.
- Let us asume CUT_AFTER_DAYS is at 50 und CUT_DAYS at 30.
- The logfile itself is 52 days old. ShowLog now strips of
- 22 days. So 30 days will remain in the logfile.
- If ARC_LOGS is set to yes, ShowLog will store these 22 days in
- ARC_PATH.
-
- Keep in mind: The keywords above are just default/global settings.
- It is possible to specify the maximum and minimum for each and every
- logifle.
- See descripion of MAILER_LOG, BBS_LOG and LOG in chapter 3.2.
-
- Here are some example for better understanding:
-
- CUT_LOGS BML
- - All logfiles will be shortened (BBS, Mailer and LOGfiles).
-
- MAILER_LOG e:\log\mcmail$TASK$.log,McMaillogfile,NO_ARC,-1,-1,50,30
- - The mailer logfile will not be stored, the log will be shortened from
- 50 to 30 days.

- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- LOG c:\log\sl.log,ShowLog Logfile,SIZE_ONLY,ARC,200000,100000
- - This log will be shortened by size, stored. (200kb to 100kb)
-
- LOG c:\log\fe.log,FastEcho Logfiles,FD,ARC,200000,100000,60,30
- - This logfile will be shortened using both methods. The logfile
- is FD-Style.

- If you choose ascii text you now will be presented the path+filename
- which SHOWLOG read in from SHOWl.CFG under REPORT_TEXT. You can now
- just press enter or alter the path+ filename. If the file already exists,
