  4. Q1: Why do I need aMixer?
  5.  
  6. A:  If you have to ask you probably don't.
  7.

  9. Q2: Do I have to remove any drivers from config.sys, or uninstall
  10.     anything?
  11.  
  12. A:  No.  Paradise doesn't care about other drivers.  If you ever
  13.     want to uninstall Paradise, just REM it out of your config.sys.

  16. Q3: Why do the control knobs jump around?
  17.  
  18. A:  A control is re-calibrated each time you move it.  The knob
  19.     has a resolution of 100 ticks, but current mixers have much
  20.     less than this, typically around 10 ticks.  So, if you move
  21.     a knob to "17", aMixer tells Paradise to move to 17, but
  22.     Paradise comes back and tells aMixer that 15 was used instead,
  23.     since 17 is not available in your mixer.  This is especially
  24.     noticeable with the gain knobs, which only have 4 ticks
  25.     available.  The main panel balance is not re-calibrated.  The
  26.     -nofb switch may do better for you, but you still need to use
  27.     the left control key to increase ^Gain Out.

  30. Q4: What are each of the I/O "Connects" for?
  31.  
  32. A:  Directly above each pair of connect check boxes are the level/
  33.     balance knobs (MIDI, CD, Line, Mic) that correspond to them.

  36. Q5: What's the Alarm feature.

  38. A:  It's not supported.

  41. Q6: How can I get a feature/request added?

  43. A:  Register, then convince me why it should be added.  If it passes
  44.     my hit list, it may be added in the future.

  47. Q7: Why not put everything in one window?
  48.  
  49. A:  Matter of taste, I suppose.  Also, the controls in the other panels
  50.     are not used as often as those on the main panel.

  53. Q8: I don't have bass and treble in my mixer so why are there controls
  54.     for them?
  55.  
  56. A:  aMixer is primarily for those mixers that do have bass and treble.
  57.     If you have an SB2CD, or SB Pro, Vibra16, or near-compatible, you
  58.     can pretend that they work, or just ignore them.

  61. Q9: For how long is my registration valid?
  62.  
  63. A:  At least through the current version, so any 1.xx license is valid
  64.     for all 1.xx version levels.

  67. Q10: Why is the package filename unchanged, even though changes have been
  68.      made?
  69.  
  70. A:  Letter updates (e.g., 1.3 to 1.3a) do not change package names (i.e.,
  71.     amixer13.zip before and after).  Also, these updates are initially made
  72.     available only from the 40th Floor sites.  They usually have minor updates
  73.     or changes, or have had a feature or two added.  If you want the current
  74.     version go to 40th.com only.

  77. Q11: Why does the DSP in the Detail panel show 1.03 (or other odd number)?

  79. A:  The card has not been reset since it was powered up.  Either use -config
  80.     and provide the correct IRQ/DMA or use -reset if you already have a
  81.     valid amixer.ini file.  Alternatively, use another driver or program
  82.     to initialize the sound card.

  84.     NOTE:  If you have trouble getting aMixer going, delete the amixer.ini
  85.     file (after exiting amixer).  Then, restart, but this time do not
  86.     enter IRQ or DMA, and do not use -reset.  The main reason for IRQ/DMA
  87.     and -reset is if you are not using an OS/2 driver for the hardware,
  88.     and do not have PnP hardware.
