  15. This file describes the procedure to upgrade WaterGate from older
  16. versions to the latest version.
  17.  
  18. If you are installing from scratch, then extract MANUALS.ZIP and
  19. read MANUAL.TXT for instructions on how to extract the manuals.
  20. Then continue reading those for detailed installation instructions.

  23. The most important thing about upgrading is getting the database
  24. (*.TDB) files compatible with the latest format. The UPGRADE.EXE
  25. program in this archive that takes care of upgrading all older
  26. formats to the latest.
  27.  
  28. One files not touched by UPGRADE.EXE are the ASCII configuration
  29. file ROUTE.TDB. The changes to this file are very specific and
  30. you need to read the upgrade instructions (these) that come with each
  31. release to make sure you do not miss anything important, especially
  32. if you are upgrading from a somewhat older version.
  33.  
  34. When upgrading, you do not just want to get ready to run the new
  35. executables. It is important that you become aware of what has
  36. changed in the new version. All the changes are detailed in the
  37. CHANGES.DOC file. Read that file!
  38.  
  39. Upgrading is rather simple:
  40.  
  41. 1) Backup all executables, databases (the *.TDB files) and the batch
  42.    files that run WaterGate (basically your WaterGate system
  43.    directory).
  44.  
  45. 2) replace all the executable files: WTRGATE.EXE, WTRCONF.EXE,
  46.    WTRUTIL.EXE, WTRSTAT.EXE, WTRTEST.EXE and, if you are using these,
  47.    WTRGATEO.EXE, WTRGATEO.OVR or WTRGATED.EXE.

  49. 3) Run the UPGRADE.EXE program to upgrade your database files. Notice
  50.    that you have to use the command line option NOW or nothing will
  51.    happen.
  52.  
  53. 4) Copy the changes from the new language file, or replace it
  54.    completely. This is especially important if you have customized
  55.    it for a local language. See below for details.
  56.  
  57. 5) Edit the ROUTE.TDB file according to the details below.

  59. Here are the details for upgrading 0.92 to 0.93:
  60.  
  61. - The format of the BOUNCE and BOUNCEFROM statements has changed. You
  62.   have to add an astriks at the start of a statement to make sure it
  63.   triggers on all occurances of the search string in the e-mail
  64.   address. For example: BOUNCEFROM savetrees.com "JUNK MAIL!"
  65.   doesn't work anymore. Instead, change it to:
  66.   BOUNCEFROM *savetree.com "JUNK MAIL!".
  67.   A better example is this one: BOUNCE test@my.domain "Reason: test"
  68.   which would trigger on "mytest@my.domain" as well. This no longer
  69.   happens, unless you add the astriks before "test".

  71. - The group structure has changed. You will find the old area in which
  72.   new areas are created automatically in the new group F1. You can move
  73.   these areas and the definition for it to group Z1 via WtrConf,
  74.   Group Definitions, function key F2. The manual has more details on
  75.   how to move groups (separate chapter about groups).

  77. That is all! Start with WtrConf and check that it accepts the upgraded
  78. database file. Get familiar with the new system menu structure and the
  79. new Link Definitions and then do some test runs with WtrGate.
