- Get Video Mode program

-
- The small program getvideo.exe finds the select code for the
- currently active video mode. You can then set the resulting number
- in the VIDEO environment variable and the WaterGate programs will
- switch to that video mode when you start them.
-
- You don't need this if you always use the same video mode, but only
- if you (for example) use 25 lines and want the WaterGate programs
- to use 30 or 43 lines.
-
- This way you can let WtrGate, WtrUtil and WtrTest use the extra
- screen lines for the logfile. WtrConf uses the extra space to unfold
- the editor screens and expand the lists.
-
- To find the video mode selection code, you have to set your video
- card so it uses that video mode. Most video cards come with a
- support diskette that holds a program that you can use to select
- an other video mode.
-
- After you have run that program, you run getvideo.exe to find the
- selection code. You write it down.
-
- Now you have to make sure that the VIDEO environment variable is
- set when you start wtrgate.exe or wtrutil.exe. You can do it in
- your autoexec.bat file or in a batchfile that start wtrgate.exe,
- for example. You have to add a line like this:
-
- SET VIDEO=3
-
- Where 3 is the video mode selection code. You can try some of the
- numbers yourself. If you have a VGA card, you can set it to 7,
- which is the standard code for monochrome video mode. All other
- codes depend on the video card bios.
-
- The WaterGate programs always restores the old video mode when you
- exit the program.
