  1.              FRAGMENTATION ANALYSIS UTILITY

  3.          INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

  5. The Fragmentation Analysis Utility shows the state of file 
  6. fragmentation on your disks.  (This utility is for analysis 
  7. only -- it will not defragment your files.) It runs under 
  8. versions 3.5 and 3.51 of Windows NT[TM] Workstation and 
  9. Windows NT Server.  
  10.  
  11. (Note: This utility is not intended to be run from a server to 
  12. analyze remote disks over a network.  To analyze local disks, 
  13. install this utility on the local system to be analyzed.)
  14.  
  15. The Fragmentation Analysis Utility runs on Intel[TM] platforms.  
  16. It will analyze NTFS and FAT volumes.

  19. RUNNING THE FRAGMENTATION ANALYSIS UTILITY FROM A FLOPPY DISKETTE
  20. =================================================================

  22. Follow these steps to run the Fragmentation Analysis Utility from
  23. a floppy diskette:
  24.  
  25. 1. Log onto your Windows NT system from an Administrator account.
  26.  
  27. 2. Insert the floppy diskette containing the Fragmentation Analysis 
  28.    Utility into the appropriate drive on your system.
  29.  
  30. 3. Use the Windows NT File Manager to list the files contained on 
  31.    the floppy diskette.
  32.  
  33. 4. Double click on one of the following executable images:
  34.  
  35.     fauintfs.exe  -  for NTFS partitions
  36.     fauifat.exe  -  for FAT partitions
  37.  
  38. 5. Follow the instructions as they appear on your screen.

  41. RUNNING THE FRAGMENTATION ANALYSIS UTILITY FROM A HARD DRIVE
  42. ============================================================

  44. 1. Log onto your Windows NT system from an Administrator account.
  45.  
  46. 2. Insert the floppy diskette containing the Fragmentation Analysis 
  47.    Utility into the appropriate drive on your system.
  48.  
  49. 3. Copy all files from the floppy diskette into a directory on your 
  50.    hard drive.  (Note: All the Fragmentation Analysis Utility files 
  51.    must be copied to the same directory.
  52.  
  53. 4. Use the Windows NT File Manager to list the files you have just 
  54.    copied onto your hard drive.
  55.  
  56. 5. Double click on one of the following executable images:
  57.  
  58.     fauintfs.exe  -  for NTFS partitions
  59.     fauifat.exe  -  for FAT partitions
  60.  
  61. 6. Follow the instructions as they appear on your screen.
  62.  
  63. When done, you will have discovered the state of file fragmentation on your 
  64. system.  If you have any difficulty using this utility call 818-547-2050.

  82. associates, but you may not rent, lease, or transfer the Software for profit.  
  83. ESI requires only that each copy carries its copyright notices indicating that 
  84. the software is owned by ESI or its suppliers and is protected by United States 
  85. copyright laws and international treaty provisions.

  87. 2.  No Warranties.  The use of the Software under this License is provided to 
  88. you "AS IS".  ESI does not warrant the functions contained in the Software 
  89. will meet your requirements or that the operation of the Software will be

  91. performance of the Software is with you.

  93. 3.  California Law.  This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of 
  94. California.  Should any of the provisions of this Utility License be declared 
  95. invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, the balance of the license 
  96. will remain in full force and effect.
