- You must, must, must read this file before you use DeZkTop v2.0. If
- you tried running DeZkTop before reading this file and got into trouble
- then that serves you right!
-
- The documentation for DeZkTop is supplied in Word 6 format as
- dezktop.doc. Hopefully most people will have access to Word or to the
- Word viewer. You can get the latter free from Microsoft. As a last
- resort I have saved the text from the Word file as dezktop.txt which you
- can read using Notepad, however this doesn't have the pictures in it.
- If you haven't used DeZkTop before then have a quick browse through the
- documentation and then jump in. If you have used an earlier version of
- DeZkTop and especially if you are one of the large crowd who is using a
- beta version of v2.0 then see below.
-
- It just remains for me to remind you that DeZkTop is shareware, so if
- you like it enough to use it then please send ten pounds sterling or
- fifteen US dollars to me:

- Vicars Cross
- Chester. CH3 5LQ
- UK
- email to jrennie@cix.compulink.co.uk
-
- Ideally send cheques, UK banks will honour cheques drawn against foreign
- banks, or alternatively just send cash. If you cannot get sterling or
- US dollars then just send whatever comes to hand, IÆve never been known
- to refuse any form of money!
-
- IÆm afraid I donÆt take credit cards. If you have a Compuserve account
- you can register by typing GO SWREG. The number for DeZkTop is 2943.
- SWREG might claim the version number to be less than 2.0, if so just
- ignore it as a single registration entitles you to use all current and
- future versions.

- DeZkTop v1.8 users
- ==================
- If you are using DeZkTop v1.8 then you will need to use the convert
- program to convert your v1.8 data to v2.0 format. Note that the
- conversion will not affect your existing data in any way, and you can
- continue to use both versions of DeZkTop if you want.
-
- To convert your data make sure neither version of DeZkTop is running and
- run convert.exe. This will display a dialog box with 4 fields in it.
-
- Path to old DeZkTop files:
- --------------------------
- This is the directory which your DeZkTop v1.8 data directory is in. By
- default v1.8 used the directory \windows\DeZkTop, if this is the case then
- enter \windows in this field, ie enter the path but leave off the final
- \DeZkTop. The convert program will do its best to guess the correct value
- for this field, normally you shouldn't have to change it.
-
- Path to new DeZkTop files:
- --------------------------
- This is the directory where you want your DeZkTop v2.0 data directory to
- be. By default v2.0 will use the directory \windows so just enter
- \windows (with the drive name if necessary). The convert program will
- do its best to guess the correct value for this field, normally you
- shouldn't have to change it.
-
- Old name for desktop
- --------------------
- The convert program will only convert one desktop at a time and you
- need to enter the desktop name here. If you haven't used the multiple
- desktop facility then you will only have a single desktop called
- Default.
-
- New name for desktop
- --------------------
- This would normally be the same as the old name for desktop field.
-
- When you are happy click OK and the data should be converted. If you
- are still a bit unsure about what to enter in the first two fields have
- a look in the documentation where it describes how DeZkTop stores its
- data and that shoud clarify things a bit.

- DeZkTop v2.0 beta users
- =======================
- I've made one change to the release version of DeZkTop 2.0 that will
- cause you problems. The data used to be kept in a subdirectory called
- DeZkTop20, but it was pointed out to me that Netware 3 file servers
- cannot manage long file names so I changed the directory name to
- DeZkTop.v20. Before running the release version of DeZkTop simply copy
- or rename your DeZkTop20 directory to DeZkTop.v20.
