  1. You must, must, must read this file before you use DeZkTop v2.0.  If
  2. you tried running DeZkTop before reading this file and got into trouble
  3. then that serves you right!

  5. The documentation for DeZkTop is supplied in Word 6 format as
  6. dezktop.doc.  Hopefully most people will have access to Word or to the
  7. Word viewer.  You can get the latter free from Microsoft.  As a last
  8. resort I have saved the text from the Word file as dezktop.txt which you
  9. can read using Notepad, however this doesn't have the pictures in it.
  10. If you haven't used DeZkTop before then have a quick browse through the
  11. documentation and then jump in.  If you have used an earlier version of
  12. DeZkTop and especially if you are one of the large crowd who is using a
  13. beta version of v2.0 then see below.

  26. Ideally send cheques, UK banks will honour cheques drawn against foreign
  27. banks, or alternatively just send cash.  If you cannot get sterling or
  28. US dollars then just send whatever comes to hand, IÆve never been known
  29. to refuse any form of money!

  32. you can register by typing GO SWREG.  The number for DeZkTop is 2943.
  33. SWREG might claim the version number to be less than 2.0, if so just
  34. ignore it as a single registration entitles you to use all current and
  35. future versions.

  38. DeZkTop v1.8 users
  39. ==================
  40. If you are using DeZkTop v1.8 then you will need to use the convert
  41. program to convert your v1.8 data to v2.0 format.  Note that the
  42. conversion will not affect your existing data in any way, and you can
  43. continue to use both versions of DeZkTop if you want.

  45. To convert your data make sure neither version of DeZkTop is running and
  46. run convert.exe.  This will display a dialog box with 4 fields in it.

  48. Path to old DeZkTop files:
  49. --------------------------
  50. This is the directory which your DeZkTop v1.8 data directory is in.  By 
  51. default v1.8 used the directory \windows\DeZkTop, if this is the case then 
  52. enter \windows in this field, ie enter the path but leave off the final 
  53. \DeZkTop.  The convert program will do its best to guess the correct value
  54. for this field, normally you shouldn't have to change it.

  56. Path to new DeZkTop files:
  57. --------------------------
  58. This is the directory where you want your DeZkTop v2.0 data directory to
  59. be.  By default v2.0 will use the directory \windows so just enter
  60. \windows (with the drive name if necessary).  The convert program will
  61. do its best to guess the correct value for this field, normally you
  62. shouldn't have to change it.

  64. Old name for desktop
  65. --------------------
  66. The convert program will only convert one desktop at a time and you
  67. need to enter the desktop name here.  If you haven't used the multiple
  68. desktop facility then you will only have a single desktop called
  69. Default.

  71. New name for desktop
  72. --------------------
  73. This would normally be the same as the old name for desktop field.

  75. When you are happy click OK and the data should be converted.  If you
  76. are still a bit unsure about what to enter in the first two fields have
  77. a look in the documentation where it describes how DeZkTop stores its
  78. data and that shoud clarify things a bit.

  81. DeZkTop v2.0 beta users
  82. =======================
  83. I've made one change to the release version of DeZkTop 2.0 that will
  84. cause you problems.  The data used to be kept in a subdirectory called
  85. DeZkTop20, but it was pointed out to me that Netware 3 file servers
  86. cannot manage long file names so I changed the directory name to
  87. DeZkTop.v20.  Before running the release version of DeZkTop simply copy
  88. or rename your DeZkTop20 directory to DeZkTop.v20.
