  2. This file describes how to use the music player ROLALARM.EXE as the
  3. external alarm in Telemate.
  4.

  6. 1. Before you can run ROLALARM.EXE, you must have the following files:
  7.  
  8.         SOUND.COM       the sound driver for Adlib music card and
  9.                         SoundBlaster music card
  10.         STANDARD.BNK    the music instrument bank
  11.         *.ROL           any ROL music file
  12.  
  13.    If you cannot find the SOUND.COM or SB-SOUND.COM, you should call
  14.    your dealer or your music card producer for them. Or you can
  15.    download TMALARM.ZIP or .ARJ from our support BBSs:

  26. 2. You MUST run SOUND.COM or SB-SOUND.COM BEFORE you run Telemate. The
  27.    sound driver is a TSR utility that will stay in your memory. It is
  28.    a good idea to add it to your AUTOEXEC.BAT, for example, add the
  29.    line
  30.         SOUND           or
  31.         SB-SOUND
  32.    in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.

  34. 3. Choose one of your .ROL music files and copy it to ALARM.ROL in the
  35.    Telemate directory.
  36.  
  37. 4. Copy STANDARD.BNK to the Telemate directory.
  38.  
  39. 5. You should have TMALARM.BAT in the Telemate directory. It is the
  40.    batch file Telemate run when it activates the external alarm.
  41.    In this batch file, you can run anything you like, say a music
  42.    player or a picture viewer, anything.
  43.  
  44.    Telemate comes with a music player called ROLALARM.EXE. The default
  45.    TMALARM.BAT has the line
  46.         ROLALARM ALARM.ROL /S%2 /T%3
  47.    It tells ROLALARM to play the ALARM.ROL music file. You can replace
  48.    ALARM.ROL with any .ROL music files. Here, we use ALARM.ROL as an
  49.    example.

  51. 6. You should have ROLALARM.EXE in the Telemate directory. It is a
  52.    music player that play a .ROL music file. It requires the SOUND.COM
  53.    installed in your memory. And it needs the STANDARD.BNK at run time.
  54.    You should be able to play ALARM.ROL using
  55.         ROLALARM ALARM.ROL
  56.    in the DOS command line.

  58. 7. Run Telemate and turn ON the 'External Alarm' option under the
  59.    Options/General dialog.

  62. Now you have installed the ROLALARM.EXE as your external alarm. Since
  63. ROLALARM.EXE requires quite a lot of memory, you may need to turn ON
  64. the 'Swap Telemate to XMS/EMS' or 'Swap Telemate to Disk' options
  65. under the Options/General dialog. This suggests that you should only
  66. use the external alarm if you have XMS or EMS or you have a fast hard
  67. disk.

  71. players as your external alarm.
