  5. Welcome to NewsTicker for OS/2.

  7. This file contains information you need to install NewsTicker for OS/2,
  8. and additional information not included in the product documentation. Our

  10. information.  The software and documentation is provided to you in accordance
  11. with the license agreement.

  25. -----------
  26. With an active internet connection, provides scrolling news headlines
  27. across your desktop from various real time news feeds.  With a click on
  28. the headline, you get to view the full article in one of your supported
  29. WWW Browsers.

  32. Technical Requirements
  33. ----------------------
  34. -  OS/2 Warp version 3 or 4
  35. -  An active internet connection
  36. -  3.2 MB of space on your hard drive
  37. -  8 MB of RAM
  38. -  Netscape Navigator for OS/2 -OR- IBM WebExplorer required to see full
  39.    text articles.
  40.    (Since the IBM WebExplorer is not enabled for Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE),
  41.     NewsTicker for OS/2 must start up a new WebExplorer each time an article
  42.     is requested to be viewed, not raised in an already running WebExplorer.)

  56. Installing NewsTicker for OS/2
  57. ------------------------------

  59. -  Create a temporary directory in which to download NTICKOS2.ZIP, this READ.ME
  60.    file, and PKUNZIP.EXE (if you need it).
  61. -  UNZIP the .ZIP file.
  62. -  Type INSTALL and follow the directions on the screen.

  65. Browser Setup
  66. -------------
  67. The browser setup window allows you to select which browser to use to display
  68. news articles or information from advertisers. The browser name selection box
  69. allows you to identify which type of browser you are using. The location field
  70. displays the full pathname for the browser. If the pathname is incorrect, or
  71. the NewsTicker has trouble finding the browser when it tries to start it, press
  72. the Select button.

  74. The select button will popup a dialog box allowing you to identify specifically
  75. where the browser program file is.

  77. Using the browser setup window.
  78.  
  79. 1. Click on the Setup icon.  The NewsTicker Setup window opens.
  80. 2. Click on the browser Setup button. You will see the NewsTicker Browser
  81.    Setup window.
  82. 3. Choose your browser from the browser pulldown.
  83. 4. Click on the Select button. You will see a menu for selecting your browser's
  84.    EXE file.
  85. 5. In the directory field, double click on the C:\. This will provide you with
  86.    a list of files and directories available.
  87. 6. Look for the subdirectory containing your browser (Netscape Navigator or
  88.    IBM WebExplorer).
  89. 7. Find the browser .EXE file and choose it.
  90. 8. Click on OK. You will return to the NewsTicker Browser Setup window.
  91. 9. Click on OK. You will return to the IBM infoMarket NewsTicker Setup menu.
  92. 10. Click on OK. You will return to the NewsTicker window.

  95. Server Setup
  96. ------------
  97. The ticker will always be loaded with the default ticker server and you should
  98. not have to change it unless your system cannot resolve the hostname. If this
  99. happens, you get a generic 'invalid Ticker Host' error, and should replace the
  100. hostname with the IP address. For the most current information on the server
  101. name and IP address, go to
  102. http://www.infomarket.ibm.com/ht3/nthelp#serversetup.htm.

  104. Using the Server Setup window
  105.  
  106. 1. Click on the Setup icon. The NewsTicker Setup window opens.
  107. 2. Click on the Server Setup button. You will see the NewsTicker Server Setup
  108.    window.
  109. 3. Fill in the server name, or IP address, and port number for your SOCKS
  110.    and/or HTTP proxy servers.
  111. 4. Click on OK. You will return to the IBM infoMarket NewsTicker Setup menu.
  112. 5. Click on OK. You will return to the NewsTicker window.
