- What's New In
- HyperView
- Version 3.4
-
- This file begins with the most recent changes to HyperView and works
- back.
-
- 3.4
- The following enhancements were added to the PM edition:
- Support for viewing OS/2 .INF and .HLP files (converted to text).
- Configurable colors (See the Color Settings item in the Options
- menu).
- Auto-recognition of self-extracting ZIP files.
-
- 3.3
- The following enhancements were added to the PM edition:
- Added support for HTML (World Wide Web) files. The HTML conversion
- goes beyond simply removing HTML tags. Basic formatting
- instructions are observed. All extraneous line end characters and
- spaces are removed, so that text flows naturally as if it were
- from a word processing document. Alternative text is extracted
- from image tags. All special characters are converted to their
- ASCII counterparts in keeping with the current code page.
- Preformatted text is preserved. HTML files may be dragged
- directly from the Web Explorer to a HyperView window.
- Type CTRL+DOWN and CTRL+UP from the main text window to move the
- cursor to the next or previous tagged line.
- Adjustable tab settings. (See the new Right margin/Layout menu item
- in the View menu or type 'R'.)
- Improved international support for rendering of accented characters
- in Windows/DOS word processing files. Accented characters are
- properly mapped to the user's code page.
- Detect new variant of Word6 file format.
-
- The following enhancements were added to the text mode edition:
- Fixed bug when reading extremely large directories.
-
- 3.2
- The following enhancements were added to the PM edition:
- Option for enhanced integration with file manager programs. Use the
- /K startup option to make HVPM function like an extension of your
- file manager. Details in on-line help.
- Drag and drop enabled. To open a new file, drag it to an open
- HyperView window and drop.
- Enhanced gather. Use the mouse, to gather words and phrases.
- Customizable cursor keys. (Options menu / Preferences)
- Separate PM executables for OS/2 Warp and above and for OS/2 2.1x.
- Improved reminders during evaluation period.
- 3.1

- (Edit menu).
- Hex view (View menu or type 'H').

- New startup option (/I): Disable high intensity background colors.
- Escape from directory exits program if no file loaded.
-
- 3.0
- HyperView is now a Presentation Manager (PM) application. Both the PM
- and text mode editions of HyperView are included with this package.
- There is no charge for users of the text mode version to upgrade to
- the PM version. Registered users of earlier versions will, however,
- require a new registration number.
- Minor bug fixes to the text mode version.
-
- 2.2
- Added support for Clearlook - The Cellular Word Processor.
- Added the '=' key (in addition to '+') for follow-up searches in the
- forward direction.
- Fixed the display of zeros in hex view.
- Fixed bug reading the contents of certain large ZIP archives.
- A fast saved WinWord 6 document is now treated as an unrecognized word
- processing format.
-
- 2.1:
- Added hex viewer. Press 'H' to switch to hex view; press 'H', Esc, or
- Enter to return to text view. While in hex view you may initiate
- searches and jump to any file offset.
- To load a file raw (i.e. to defeat auto-recognition of word processing
- and zip files), press F12 from the file or zip directory view, or
- use the '/R' startup option. The '/R' startup option now applies
- only to the first file. Use F12 to load subsequent files raw.
- Directory listings (both file and zip listings) may be sorted. Press
- F6 from the directory view.
- Added ability to read from standard input, e.g. DIR | HV.
- Added word wrap toggle. The state of word wrap is maintained
- separately for ASCII and word processing files. Thus you may have
- word wrap enabled for one and disabled for the other.
- To accommodate wide screen displays, HyperView now defaults to a right
- margin equal to the screen width for ASCII files, and screen width
- minus 5 for word processing files. Separate right margin settings
- are maintained for ASCII and word processing files.
-
- 2.0:
- Added support for viewing ZIP files. HyperView works in tandem with
- Info-ZIP's UNZIP.EXE to view compressed files directly, without
- making a copy on your hard drive. Compressed files with long file
- names and names with spaces may be viewed even on non-HPFS drives.
- Encrypted archives are also supported (you supply the password).
- Changed operation of the Escape key. Instead of Escape, F3 is used to
- exit the program with confirmation. Escape now backs up from full
- screen view to directory.
- Added support for viewing special characters in DeScribe files.
- HyperView can now be registered by credit card through BMT Micro. See
- BMT.FRM for details.
-
- 1.04a:
- Fixes a subtle bug that occurred when performing (a) a search and tag
- operation, (b) for a phrase, (c) in the forward direction, and
- (d) an occurrence of the phrase in the text spanned more than one
- line.
-
- 1.04:
- Searches are even faster than before. The increased speed will be
- most noticeable on larger files and slower machines.
- Gather operations (similar to blocking text in a word processor) may
- be initiated by holding down the shift key and pressing one of the
- cursor keys (Up, Down, PgUp, PgDn, Home or End).
- Gathered text and tagged lines may be copied (overwriting the previous
- contents) or appended (added to the end of the previous contents) to
- the OS/2 clipboard or to a file. Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Pressing the backslash key (\) takes you directly to the directory of
- the current file, positioning the cursor bar on the current file.
- Added scroll bar to full screen view. When the right margin setting
- is less then the number of columns in the current video mode, a
- conventional scroll bar is used. When the right margin setting is
- greater than or equal to the number of columns in the current video
- mode, HyperView uses a virtual scroll bar.
- Ctrl-Right and Ctrl-Left scroll the screen right or left 5 columns.
- When the screen has been scrolled right, the home key returns the
- screen to the far left.
- Exit HyperView from directory listing by pressing Alt-F4 or Alt-X.
- Warning added when attempting a clipboard operation that exceeds 64K
- of text. (This is not a limitation of HyperView. The OS/2 text
- clipboard is limited to 64K of text.)
- Fixed disappearing cursor when HyperView is called from shell program.
-
- 1.03:
- Added interface with OS/2 clipboard. Gathered text and tagged lines
- may now be copied to the clipboard. To enable the clipboard
- feature, the file HVAUX.EXE must be installed in the same directory
- as HV.EXE.
- Available commands no longer depend on the active view. For example,
- searches may now be initiated while in condensed or split screen
- view.
- Easier to navigate directories. Backspace moves to parent directory.
- In addition, after changing to the parent directory, the cursor will
- point to the former parent rather than moving to the top.
- Revised default color scheme. (Configurable colors are coming in a
- forthcoming release.)
- Revised help screen in anticipation of adding pull-down menus to a
- forthcoming release.
- Accelerated process of listing tagged lines to file.
- HyperView can now be run when OS/2 is booted from a floppy disk.
- Added table recognition to Ami Pro conversion.
- Nomenclature change: what used to be referred to as "marked lines" are
- now called "tagged lines". Same principle, new name.
- Fixed bug when display is set for 132 columns
-
- 1.02:
- Added file size, date and time to directory listing.
- Added capability to view a file in a new HyperView session. Highlight
- the file you wish to view in the directory listing, then press
- Ctrl-Enter (or F9) to start (spawn) a new session.
- Added name of file being viewed to window task list.
- Added new command line option to set the number of lines of text on
- screen. The option takes the form "/Lnn", where nn is a number
- between 25 and 60.
- Added new command line option to specify directory and/or file mask
- for opening directory listing. Instead of typing a file name on the
- command line, type a path.
- Isolated carriage return character (ASCII 13) now treated as valid end
- of line character.
- Revised prompt strategy for Gather and List dialogs.
- Corrected potential bug when reading directory from LAN drive.
-
- 1.01:
-
- Added Files view. The Files view permits you to pick a file from a
- directory listing. The directory listing may also be used to
- navigate through the file system. The Files directory listing is
- automatically invoked if a file is not specified at startup. See
- README.DOC and HV.DOC for additional details.
-
- Added option to clear screen on exit from HyperView. Press Alt-X.
-
- 1.00:
-
- Initial release.
