  1. THE SERV-U PROMO MESSAGE

  4. This is Serv-U version 2.1, a FTP server (or Daemon) for MS-Windows 
  5. and its variants (Win95, NT) that use WinSock for TCP/IP network access.
  6.  
  7. Serv-U, the all purpose FTP server for WinSock offers the following:
  8. * Lots of security: Passwords, read/write/modify rights per directory or 
  9.   file for each user (including ANONYMOUS), access on the basis of 
  10.   IP-number.
  11. * Multiple simultaneous users and transfers.
  12. * Both in 16- and 32-bit, and very, very stable!
  13. * Support for UL/DL ratios, and disk quota limitations.
  14. * Users can be put into groups for easy maintenance of large numbers.
  15. * Serv-U works well with Mosaic, Netscape, and MS Internet Explorer.
  16. * Access to all drives on your PC, including network drives.
  17. * A quite complete (and strict) implementation of RFC959 and RFC1123, 
  18.   including PASV, also supports the 'resume' command.
  19. * Supports 'links' like those in UNIX.
  20. * Supports multi-homed IP sites, and external user access verification DLLs.
  21. * Configurable greeting messages, for signon, signoff, and login.
  22. * Configurable directory change messages.
  23. * Can run 'invisible' - with no user access to the program.
  24. * Has a 'time-out' feature, so connections are automatically cleared when
  25.   idle or hung.
  26. * Fast! Transfer speeds are close to the maximum possible on your PC.
  27. * Easy to setup and maintain through menus. For automated maintenance the 
  28.   settings are stored in an .INI file of simple format.
  29. * Logs all transactions to file and screen that can be read by other 
  30.   applications. Includes unique session IDs, time, and date stamps. 
  31. * Log file can be read by other applications while open, or transferred 
  32.   through Serv-U.
  33. * A Windows standard: Over 3500 registered users with many for multiple
  34.   copies.
  35. * It is dirt cheap, less than 0.11ct per line of code!

  38. TRY-OUT

  41. The 30 day try-out version comes in two flavors, one of which can be 
  42. chosen during the first start-up: Either a fully functional version that 
  43. contacts a permission server to enforce the 30 days of try-out, or, a 
  44. slightly crippled version that does not contact the permission server.

  50. Serv-U comes with the following files:

  52.      SERV-U16.EXE        - The 16-bit FTP-server executable
  53.       - and/or -
  54.      SERV-U32.EXE        - The 32-bit executable for Win95 and NT
  55.      SERV-U.DOC          - The documentation in MS-Word v6 format
  56.      SERV-U.TXT          - The documentation in ASCII format
  57.      README.TXT          - This file
  58.      REGISTER.TXT        - A registration form in ASCII format
  59.      VERSION.TXT         - A list of changes between versions
  60.      FILE_ID.DIZ     - Information file for bulletin boards

  62. The file SERV-U.DOC is the manual in a nice looking format. This 
  63. reproduces best using a word processor that can read MS-Word v6 documents,
  64. but if you use Windows 95 you can also use the 'WordPad' program that
  65. comes with it (Although this will loose a bit in the translation).

  67. Installation is easy, but please take a look at the documentation 
  68. before doing so. If you have an earlier version and want to upgrade
  69. then this is also described in the documentation.
