  3. Welcome to WebNavigator 1.11 !

  5. This document contains a quick description of WebNavigator 1.11. For more 
  6. information please start WebNavigator and view the online documentation
  7. in the Help menu (you may also press F1).

  11. WebNavigator 1.11 is an upgrade that fixes a problem when upgrading from 
  12. HTMLview 1.0. There are no other changes compared to WebNavigator 1.1.

  16. the procedure described under "5. Upgrading from HTMLview 1.0" if you 
  17. want to keep your old settings.

  26. 1. What is WebNavigator 1.11
  27. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  28. WebNavigator is a web browser for OS/2.
  29.  
  30. WebNavigator is a faster way of browsing the web than WebExplorer. 
  31. It does most of the things that WebExplorer does and works both 
  32. on- and off-line. It has many features that WebExplorer has not. If you are 
  33. used to work with WebExplorer you will soon be used to work with WebNavigator. 
  34. Most menu-item and keyboard shortcut are similar to those in WebExplorer.

  36. Most notes features:
  37. - Select a link when a page is loaded
  38. - Internal and external (plugin) ftp/download
  39. - Integrated News and Mail.
  40. - Easy to use QuickList
  41. - Small (around 100kb) and fast.
  42.  
  43. We also offer custom made versions of WebNavigator for customers that has a
  44. specific needs, for example feature limited, company specific versions.

  48. 2. What is new in version  1.1 (1.11)
  49. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  50. Version 1.1 is an intermediate release. Its mostly a release to fix problems
  51. with the 1.1 release but it also contains things that did not make it in
  52. time for (HTMLview) 1.0. A major upgrade (1.5) is under development.
  53.  
  54. - External download is added. You configure your plugin download/ftp
  55.   client via Options->Settings->FTP/News and then click on a link.
  56.   A window will pop up asking you if you wish to use the internal or
  57.   the external download.
  58.  
  59. - News is now supported. This is a undocumented feature of the WebExp
  60.   API. There is also a menu item that allows you to import your news
  61.   settings from WebExplorer. You may also edit your news mail signature
  62.   file via the Options->Edit News/Mail signature file menu item.

  64. - The File->Open Document (URL) menu item is back on requests from many
  65.   users. It was there during the beta but was removed in 1.0.
  66.  
  67. - A new menu item File->New browser window allows you to start a new
  68.   copy of WebNavigator. This function is also availible under the File->  
  69.   Open Document (URL) menu item.
  70.  
  71. - A Directory menu item is added to help you browse the net. It has
  72.   online links to services at our web site.

  74. - You may now view the (HTML) source of the current document using the
  75.   File->View source (HTML) menu item.

  77. - In 1.0 you could not press enter on a page with a "SUBMIT" button. 
  78.   This is a undocumented feature of the WebExp API that now works.

  80. - In version 1.0 if you entered an invalid address (URL) WebNavigator would
  81.   replace it with the last valid. In 1.1 the invalid address is there
  82.   for you to change.

  84. - Mail and news will not start if you do not fill in the needed fields in
  85.   the settings notebook.

  87. - Document without the <title> tag did not get into the list of visited 
  88.   links in 1.0. This is now fixed.

  90. - The trial version timeout is changed to 20 minutes.

  92. - The trial version timeout does no longer abort downloads. You may 
  93.   complete the download by NOT pressing the OK button until the download
  94.   is finished.

  98. 3. Trial version limitations
  99. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  100. Before you register you will be using the trial version. You are allowed to
  101. run unregistered in 30 day. All use after that is illegal.

  105. The trial version has the following restrictions:
  106. - The QuickList cannot exceed five items.
  107. - The program will exit after running in 20 minutes.
  108. - When starting and exiting WebNavigator an information screen appears.
  109.  
  110. You may however start WebNavigator as many times as you like during
  111. the trial period of 30 days.

  113. NOTE:
  114. If a download is running when the trial version times out the download
  115. may continue to finish. Just don't click the OK button!

  119. 4. Installation
  120. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  121. The installation program is written for your convenience but is not required
  122. to install the product. You may copy the files to your harddisk manually if
  123. you wish. Only three files are required to run WebNavigator.
  124.  
  125. - Copy the files (WEBNAV.EXE, WEBNAV.HTM, DIRECT.URL) to a directory 
  126.   of your choice.
  127. - Create desktop icons with program references for WEBNAV.EXE.
  128. - DO NOT drag the icons representing the executables from the file system 
  129.   (Drives window).
  130. - You may create several program references with different links as parameters.
  131. - Many copies of WebNavigator may run at the same time.

  134. If the installation program fails, please ensure that:
  135.  
  136. - The installation directory is not in a non existing multilevel path.
  137. - The installation drive is not write protected.
  138. - You are running Workplace Shell.
  139. - The package WEBN111.ZIP is not tampered with.

  143. 5. Upgrading from HTMLview 1.0
  144. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  145. If you are a registered user of HTMLview 1.0 and wants to keep your old 
  146. setting please follow this procedure.
  147.  
  148. - Install WebNavigator, but NOT in the same directory as HTMLview.
  149. - Before starting WebNavigator (DO NOT START !!) please
  150.   Copy the HTMLVIEW.INI file and the QUIKLIST.TXT file to the
  151.   directory where you installed WebNavigator.
  152. - Rename HTMLVIEW.INI to WEBNAV.INI
  153. - Now start WebNavigator
  154. - Verify that the registration is still functional and that the QuickList
  155.   is the same as in HTMLview.
  156. - You may now delete HTMLview and its directory.
  157.  
  158. As a registered user you may also delete the ORDER.TXT file and the
  159. PURCHASE.EXE and PURCHASE.APP file. You may also remove the program
  160. object in the WebNavigator folder "On-line registration" and the
  161. "How to register".
